Answer:	Hi. The Pro SL will scan 1&1/2" deep in "deep scan" mode. So, if the sheetrock is 1/2", it won't be able to react to the joist. Try a metal scanner to locate the nails holding the ceiling board to the joist. The Zircon M40 will find them for you. I hope this info is helpful. Thanks.

Answer:	No. You're going to have to guesstimate. It only finds the fasteners used to hang the stud. What I do is find multiple fasteners with the magnet and draw a line. Whenever I hang something I put the screw on that line. Never failed me yet.

Answer:	No. Its terrible as a stud finder. Buy an electric one.

Answer:	This will work. The drywall nails/screws are usually centered in the stud or ceiling joist. You have to move the magnet around until you find the first nail/screw. Then there should be another nail 16 inches or so on either side of the first nail you found. That should tell you which way the joists are running. Moving up or down the joists the nails will most likely be much greater than 16 inches apart Personally I would make sure not to hang the chairs from the same joist. And use a good strong hook and make sure it’s screwed in deep.

Answer:	Maybe. How it finds the stud is the magnet is attracted to the drywall screws/nails. So it depends on how deep the screw/nail is under the mud and how strong the magnetic hold will be. I've never used it on a ceiling but on walls it usually holds on but sometimes falls off. You need to mark your spot then remove in in case it does fall. This is the best stud finder I've ever had, a carpenter showed it to me. I have never seen it in a hardware store only on Amazon. All the battery operated ones I've used are junk. This thing never fails.

Answer:	I did not attempt to use the device to detect metal rebar in a concrete wall, so I can't comment on its ability to do that.
Question:	How thick of material can the StudPop detect through? 3/4" board? More? Less? CH Hanson can't beyond 3/4" so was useless on lathe and plaster
Answer:	The older part of my house has plaster over wood lath. I tried to use the tool in both the stud and metal modes, with less than reliable results. The instructions do note that the tool my not work well with plaster/lath walls.

Answer:	If your tile wall has cement backer board, then this device will not work. If your tile is backed by sheetrock, then it will probably work unless your tile is took thick. I wouldn't trust it to locate pipes behind tile, so take care if you're working in a bathroom.

Stud Scan Detection

Deep Scan Mode scans through 2 layers of drywall up to 1.5 in. (38 mm) deep. DeepScan Mode is a higher sensitivity scanning mode that should be used when there are extra layers of wallboard or paneling. Metal Scan Detection

Tavool wall canner will locate metal studs in StudScan, DeepScan, and Metal Scan Modes. Step 1:Calibrate the tool before every scan

After choose the mode, press and hold the scan button( on the side of the tool) to calibrate this tool. Wait for the reducing bars disappeared and beep to confirm calibration has completed.

In stud/deep mode, put it on the wall where you want to detect to calibrate it ;In AC/Metal mode, put it in the air to calibrate it.

Step 2: Scan the wall

Hold down the button, then move the stud finder along the wall slowly, if shake or lift the scanner accidently, the device needs to be re-calibrate.

The narrow on the screen togather with the beep signal alter, guides you to find the location of the stud.

Step 3: Find the location of the stud

When the signal bar is full and the beep alarm is loudest, it means you have found the center of an object.Mark it with your pencil.

Answer:	As long as there are nails in the planks the stud finder will find the location of the planks. Remember this stud finder is magnetic so it finds the location of the nails within the plank/stud.

Answer:	It works great in an apartment/house. I got it for hanging up pictures, curtains, decorations, etc around my house and it worked amazingly. It's fairly small so it's easy to store. Also, it's usable right out of the box since it doesn't need batteries or to be calibrated. Hope that helps!

Answer:	If the stud finder locates a nail head or stud screw head it will stick to the wall due to the magnetic force. This stud finder has a level on it. You’ll turn the finder while stuck on the wall until bubble is between the two lines. The finder will vertical at that point as will be the stud.
