Answer:	Actually I don’t think there are any differences in function of the laser but they are different. I think the Huepar brand was introduced into the market earlier and accumulated more reviews, which resulted in customers willing to pay a higher price for the laser. Answer:	This tool will measure the moisture content of any building material including wood and drywall. If the test indicates a high moisture content in just one spot, you could probably conclude that there was a leak at that point.

Answer:	As far as i can tell the probes are about 3/8 long. The are metal, and have a plastic cover to protect them and you when not in use. The cap can also be flipped over once taken off, to help check device itself, for calibration. They are replaceable. They actually come with an extra set of pins (probes). Hope this helps.

Question:	Just got a used one on amazon here. there are no instructions. also it has no battery
Answer:	I bought the dr.meter specifically to check installed drywall in non-pin mode. I didn't even see a way to "calibrate" the meter. I tested it on a known dry section of wall: the meter read 0%. Then I slid it over the suspected area and got readings varying from 15% up to 60% or so. That confirmed my suspicions. I cut out a big rectangle of the 3/4" drywall ceiling and it was quite wet inside, dripping. The open cell foam insulation was wet and spongy. The meter reading is instant and there is no apparent lag when moving. It even differentiates between different pieces of fruit. I tested some oranges, with readings of 40% to 55%, or so. It's a great device!

Answer:	Most interior walls read 0%. Best way to judge your walls or ceiling is to take readings in other areas of the room. But yes 20% is high. Also make sure there is no metal in the wall like in the corners some house do have metal this will give you a false reading.

Question:	Why use this instead of just a normal thermal camera
Answer:	It works by measuring the conductance between the probes, so rubber makes me think no for the inside. Yes/maybe for the surface. Since rubber by definition is non-porous, you couldn't stick the probe in and get it to measure the amount of electricity conducted through moisture between the probes. Unless we're actually talking some sort of open cell foam like a yoga mat or something squishy where water could be absorbed. Then it could work.

Question:	What is the maximum sensing depth of the MDP
Answer:	Not at all, the thermal imager is so so. But the true benefit is the ability to read the moisture content of material and to have all your customized readings on the screen at all times, including relative humidity, ambient air, etc. I have the 176 which does probe testing and also has a pad on the back of the unit, this pad lets you pull a reading without destructive measures (awesome for general walk arounds)! Can't remember what the other models offered, but I am happy with the 176. Great for mold and home inspections. I do also have an additional flir thermal imager. I definitely recommend one with MSX technology. The difference is unreal! Good Luck.

Totally agree with you - if you need only just to spot the problem area (leakage in a wall or elsewhere) intending to fix it and get rid of it - the very Flir's C2 or TG165 would be pretty handy and cover all the needs of this piece/type of job. Answer:	The little booklet says to use setting # 3 when you are not sure about a wood type, I would start there and then try setting one up and one down and see what the readings are and how they compare to each other. Then get it wet and try the test again.

The measurement range for building materials is Low: 1.5% to 16.9%; Medium: 17% to 19.9%; High: 20 to 33%. If the expected moisture percentage of the paper is expected to fall at or above 1.5% then the MO50 Compact Pin Moisture Meter would work appropriately.

Answer:	Thank you so much for your interest in our products. The MO53 is able to detect moisture at 0.8''. For the application you mention, I believe you can be interested in a different meter. From FLIR, we can suggest the MR176 using the MR12 ball probe. That will help you to get almost 4'' depth in the material.

Answer:	Expect you would have to push the meter probes through the paint layer to get a good reading.

Answer:	It really only measures moisture that is within 1/2" of the surface. For example I have a leaky toilet in a bathroom and the subfloor is saturated with water. I have to push the prongs through the surface of the flooring until it reaches the wet subfloor, in order to get a reading. If you need something for reading deep within a wall, you will need an invasive meter which has really long prongs that can be fed through test holes that you drill into the affected area. If you want to test deep within areas such as several inches, the only way is through destructive inspection, pinless moisture meters, and in some cases infrared cameras. extech is one of the most trusted meter brands and I am very happy with my purchase. It works best for measuring the moisture content of wood specifically at the test location. If there was a flood and the surface appears dry but you have some suspension as to what's going on several inches into the wall cavity, this meter will not help.

Answer:	This moisture meter does not have the "function" to choose a wood species from a specific "group". It's very simple to use and it is like a point-and-shoot camera. Just press the pins into the wood and the unit tells you what the moisture content is. I find it to be perfectly adequate for woodworking purposes.
