Question: does anyone know how or where i go to get a datasheet for this receiver? I'm doing arduino project and i really cant proceed without this info
Answer: Most of the devices in this are Dual-Band, meaning they operate over RF (915MHz) and AC (electrical wiring). There are standalone devices like the leak sensor, thermostat, and camera that do NOT have a power line connection so they are RF only. With Insteon, if you plug/wire it in directly (no transformer) it is Dual-Band, otherwise it will be RF only. For a robust system, you want multiple Dual-Band devices because they serve as repeaters.
Question: do you need to add extra resistors to the wiring

Answer: Any standard tripod will work, rod types are many, depends on what your trying to do.

Answer: It's not that you "need Siri"; rather, it's that INSTEON has taken the time to pre-implement the necessary code/app/mechanism for you to be able to control the system right out of the box. In my case, because I have a Windows device, either I or someone else would have to write an app that talks to the INSTEON API. Someone already did, and INSTEON actually has its own app in the Windows Store (which is INCREDIBLY SLOW!). If I remember correctly, however, there is/was a SKU which made to work directly with Siri, meaning that you can't buy that one expect it to write your own app to interface with the API. That particular SKU is effectively a closed system. I've got the 2582-242; it works just fine with my Windows 10 devices (mobile and otherwise) and my Windows 8.1 devices as well.One thing I will say, that is not clear until you start reading through a lot of the print, is that you MUST have at least two components of the INSTEON system always enabled and in communication with the Hub. For practical purposes you want these to be items that are plugged in or otherwise drawing AC power... because batteries run out. Why at least 2? Because of the way the system works. Long story short, when installed all the INSTEON components send messages to one another and the Hub is the command center for it all. So, say you have a light switch and a bulb. You're golden as long as the INSTEON switch doesn't control the INSTEON bulb. One, because that's unnecessary (the switch already does what the bulb would do) and two because when you set the switch to "off" the bulb is no longer powered... which means that there is effectively only one component "on" and in communication with the Hub now. So, if you're going to get the INSTEON bulbs, put them in a socket that you don't plan on turning off at the wall. Once you get your first two components registered you don't have to worry about this anymore -- it just works from that point forward.I hope I explained that clearly enough.

I have worked with all three apps and the Windows interface is the best by far. There is also a Windows 10 app for tablet/desktop that mirrors the phone app exactly which makes it highly flexible.

Metal Measurement
