Answer:	Yes, tie a string to it and lower it in the water until it reaches the bottom. Mark your string at the surface of the water, then pull the laser measure up out of the water and set it aside to dry. Lay your string out with the end touching a flat surface like a wall. Once the laser is dry, test it and if it's ruined, buy another one. Then place the laser at the end of the string and measure the distance to the wall. That will be the depth of your pool! Repeat as needed in the shallow end.

Answer:	Yes I own 2 of these; the power supply for the unit is 5VDC. I use 2 different methods to supply that 5 VDC power: One unit is connected via the power supply block that comes with it. The other unit I connect to 5 VDC directly through a powered (5 VDC) USB port. In fact that is why I selected this unit! I knew that I could not reach a 110 VAC power wall socket but I had access to a powered USB hub. Devices that are powered by 5 VDC are preferred for another reason. They are likely to use less power and why not save energy if you can?
