Answer:	Ottlite lamps either use CFL's or LEDs, this particular lamp uses a folded tube CFL and it should last for multiple years. In my previous one the wiring inside the lamp broke from all the folding before the bulb itself went out. You will notice some dimming in the CFL bulb after a couple of years (I think most are about 2 years before the start dimming, and even then it is pretty minor). On average I think CFLs last about 5 years, pending all the wiring is working properly and there is no other issue that could cause them to burn out faster.
