Answer:	It is installed just like other ceiling fans in the ceiling, so no, the fan and light are not battery operated. It uses electricity. You would need to have the proper ceiling fan electric box installed in the ceiling so it provides the correct wiring for a ceiling fan. The remote control uses batteries to use the different settings for the light and fan. I'm not aware of any traditional ceiling fan being battery operated, that would take A LOT of batteries. We removed an older ceiling fan and replaced it with this enclosed one. It works great!!
