Featuring a 75-degree oscillation, it evenly distributes warmth throughout a room, effectively eliminating cold Patches. And it includes safety features like a tip-over switch and overload thermal protector. This heater also comes with a full-function remote control. With adjustable heat settings and 75-degree oscillation, the Optimus H-4438 14-inch oscillating radiant dish heater with remote control provides even heat in spacious, midsize rooms. The heater features a maximum output of 1200 watts, ideal for large bedrooms, living rooms, and other spaces. If heating smaller spaces, simply turn down the output to 800 watts. User questions & answers
Question: | is there an on switch. so that if it were in on position, unplugged and replugged, would it work?or does it need to be electronically reset everytime |
Answer: | Every time you unplug the heater and then plug it in you will need to turn it on. (Sorry to hear James W Scott thinks this is a poorly made product...my wife and I have had 2 and we have not had a problem with either one.) |
Question: | How many watts does this run? Is it 400 and 800 on low and high |
Answer: | It is 800 and 1200. Great heater |
Question: | Anyone know why it ticks when plugged in, and lights flash once very quickly and go out. It continue to tick and nothing lights up or works |
Answer: | Do have a GFI. If so the outlet is below standard and will not take the voltage being drawn from the heater. Do not use it without upgrading your breaker and outlet female plug. If your wire set up is not up to code you might have a fire hazard without replacing socket, wires and breaker. |
Question: | My room is 15 x 20 feet. I don't need the whole room to be that warm---just the area around me. Will this heater work? (My room is freezing |
Answer: | I would say yes. That's the thing about this heater-- it's not designed to heat the whole room; sitting in front of this thing is like sitting in a warm, sunny spot. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I live in a uninsulated 2 car garage. Would this heater be powerful enough to warm a 40°F space through the night into the morning |
Answer: | I suppose that would also mean you are warmly dressed or have plenty of covers if you are sleeping there and how tight the garage is. If you run it all the time at the highest power it will eventually heat the room to a point where you won't be freezing during the day, and at night for sleeping it will be plenty warm. I move mine wherever I need it as the parabolic mirror points the heat right at you. So if I move from the sofa to the big chair at the opposite side of the room I turn or even move the heater. The cord is long enough so that you can move it around without unplugging it every time you move it. Usually I do not want to heat the whole room which is very large, bigger than your garage, and I do not want to use the heat pump to attempt to do so. No portable heater will have more than 1500 BTUs, this one will put the heat where you want it unlike most which just heat the air right around it. |
Question: | The caution light keeps coming on and the unit shuts off. What is going on and is there a recall on these |
Answer: | I have the same problem with this heater also. It shuts down after just a few minutes on high and doesn't come back on until it cools down and then you have to manually turn in back on at the lower setting. I am not going to try and fix it but I will solve any future problems with this fan by not ever buying another one and I would not recommend this fan to anyone....It is very annoying! |
Question: | How high is this heater at its minimum height setting |
Answer: | The top of the heater is approximately 33" from the floor at the minimum height setting. |
Question: | It worked fine in the beginning, but now there are times it just shuts off for no reason. Why does it do that |
Answer: | I love my Optimus. Mine works great and only shuts off when it reaches the pre-set temp or when the timer shuts it off. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a tip over safety switch |
Answer: | Made in China. |
Question: | Can you turn off the oscillating fan? I need a heater for underneath my desk but I want it to always blow on my legs, not everywhere under the desk |
Answer: | 59-86 F |
Question: | Does it have a timer |
Answer: | Mine doesn't have 4 wheels but probably basically the same. Get the horse shoe clamp & put it over the heater on bottom facing the floor. Then you should have a metal plate with 2 holes in it. You then put the metal plate over the horse shoe clamp & make sure the horse shoe clamp goes into the holes & then you bolt the plate to the horse shoe clamps & then pop on the wheels. I hope this helps. |
Question: | First day I used it and it oscillates about 1/2 inch both ways, is this right |
Answer: | As with any residential space heater, this heater should be placed on a smooth, non-combustible surface. Your heater should not place on rugs, carpet, vinyl flooring, or other plastic surfaces. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the cord length |
Answer: | Two-pronged |
Question: | How noisy it this heater |
Answer: | Your tent has electricity? Not recommended in any case unless it is a heavy canvas wall tent due to the possibility of bumping the heater into the wall of the tent and sucking the fabric in. |
Question: | This will go near me in small room with tv. Is it "relatively" quiet? My wonderful one just broke, no longer made. Thanks |
Answer: | http://www.optimusent.com/__utility%20heater_3013.html https://www.amazon.com/bayite-Fahrenheit-Digital-Temperature-Controller/dp/B011VGASLW/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1511248721&sr=1-2-fkmr1&keywords=0A+110V+Digital+Temperature+Controller+Temp+Sensor+Thermostat+Control+Relay+US That is the manufactures website and it does not say. I am unsure I never looked into that. But with these types of heaters the thermostat is so cheap they normally burn out in a year or less. So I replace them with a digital thermostat that you can can set in C or F. The thermostat I use has a wired prob that i can mount half way up the wall to sample the temperature at waist high so the heater does not make the room blazing hot up high and freezing down low. Some cutting and rewiring is required but nothing a handy man can not do. |
Question: | How noisy it this heater |
Answer: | It does not put out any light. It does not put out any heat after a while either. Cheap unit. I bought 2 and they are both in the trash within two months. |

Answer: | I no longer have the fan so I can't tell you where it's made. It did work great, but I would've like it even more if the cord was longer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | do you ever have to refill the oil on the inside |
Answer: | I don't know, mine doesn't do that. I have another space heater that has a thermostat and it turns off and on accordngly, but as far as I know, this one does not. I'm wondering if yours has a short in it perhaps? |
Question: | is it safe and effective for a small 6x6 bathroom |
Answer: | Reality Check : Per the CPSC USA "Unless certified for that purpose, do not use heaters in wet or moist places, such as Bathrooms." Wet Feet and Hands with a portable electric heater on the bathroom floor =equals= deadly danger. Bathroom 'safe' heaters usually come equipped with a ACLI Safety Plug and/or can be wall mounted (off the floor). Adults make mistakes, and children simply don't know and like to touch everything : So Be Safe Not Sorry ! -and-now-you-know- ~ RHF |
Question: | Is is safe in a bathroom? Would it heat 8'x4' bathroom with 11' ceilings |
Answer: | Absolutely no noise. |
Question: | Do you know how tall this heater is? I want to put it in a large dog house |
Answer: | Hi. I own two of these heaters. They are great. I've discovered that if the the Temp Control is set to 400 watts, the heater will never cut off due to overheating no matter how hot it gets. But if you set the Temp Control to 800 watts, the heater will indeed shut off automatically once the room heats up to a certain temperature. The only problem with that is once the heater shuts off, it will NOT automatically come back on once the room cools back down. Instead, you'll have to manually turn the heater back on. To accomplish this, once the heater has automatically shut off, you must manually rotate the Temp Control to the OFF position. Then leave it in that position for at least a couple of minutes. If you turn it back on too soon nothing will happen. But if you wait a couple of minutes and then rotate the Temp Control back to the ON position (400 watts or 800 watts) the heater will then come back on. I've owned two of these heaters for years and they all work this same way, and that's the only negative quirk about them. Otherwise, they're great. They're the best little heaters I've ever purchased. |
