So, even one-hundredth of an ounce of platinum in the bulb would ALONE cost TEN DOLLARS. Then you have the price of the bulb itself. That would make a box of 6 bulbs cost $100.

Answer:	It pretty much nonsense, as you might expect. In addition to specifying a minimum numbers of lumens-per-watt (and *all* LED bulbs have a higher lumen-per-watt rating than equivalent incandescent bulbs, so CA is potentially stopping people who live there from being able to choose more energy-efficient bulbs than they are already using), the codes also specify a minimum Color Rendering Index (CRI--a measure of how accurately the color of an object illuminated by the light appears--is a matter of personal preference and has no bearing on energy efficiency. The codes also specify a minimum number of hours of operational life of the bulb which, likewise, has nothing to do with energy efficiency. I've been buying all LED bulbs for my house for three years now and have a boatload of LED bulbs--even newer ones--which have died or otherwise become unusable (flickering, inconsistent light levels, slow to turn on, etc.). The "10,000 hour" operating life the manufacturers tout is based on the operating life of the LEDs used in the bulbs (which is essentially unlimited), not the built-in high-voltage-AC-to-low-voltage-DC converter powering those LEDs, which routinely fail in less than 10,000 hours of operation, as they are under a lot of stress. So it's quite possible if CA decides to keep track of reality (as opposed to printed specs), these rules may end up unintentionally outlawing all LED bulbs. This is the kind of stuff that happens when bureaucrats who can't be bothered to do any research and are driven by ideologies and agendas, rather than reality and facts, are allowed to make regulations.
