| Answer: | If you look on YouTube, there are a few videos in which people show you how to determine what a forgotten combination is (ie. Pick the lock). I’ve done it myself, it is not too hard, just takes some time. I suppose that the other option is to try all possible combinations. Start at 0000, then 0001.....0002..... and so on. Eventually you will stumble across you code. Might be easier to just order another lock. Good luck! |

| Answer: | Correct. The lock is sold without a core. It is just the lock body & shackle. You would need a ‘Best’ style SFIC (small format interchangeable core) with a control key and an operating key to make it functional. If you are unfamiliar with this type of interchangeable core system you can look up plenty of info on it online. But it is typically used in commercial or larger institutional settings where a master keying system is created for tiered access to multiple doors and other locks using a single master key and a combination of lower level individual operator keys. There are other #83 Abus locks that come Zero bitted with different key types, but you would need to have a locksmith set them up for you (usually to match a key you already have). If all of this sounds completely alien to you, this is likely not the padlock for you. Look for one that already comes keyed. |

I see very few Master brand locks with the SFIC feature. While I own some, they aren't common. I believe many of the American locks with removable cores have a little pin that goes through the bottom cover and into the shackle hole that you need to use a small screwdriver to "release" the cover and ultimately gain access to the core. These SFIC cores use a control key to remove the core. If you can get me a model of either of the locks you're referring to, I'd be happy to further verify. -th |
