Answer:	Without the separate Connect device, the August lock relies on Bluetooth for communications. That means that you have to be within Bluetooth range to use the August app to lock/unlock the door. If you want the lock to use WiFi for communication, you need the Connect device. WiFi is needed to control the August lock remotely (out of Bluetooth range) including using Alexa or other devices to control the lock.
Question:	Is it more reliable than the 2nd Gen? My 2G version failed all the time, replaced twice under warranty, and still not perfect
Answer:	It’s a lot better than the 2G. I’ve had it for 4 months and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. The remote access is instant as compared to the 2G which took like 30-60 seconds. I definitely recommend it

Answer:	No. The lock itself works over Bluetooth which has an effective range in a house of perhaps 40 ft. The Augusy Connect connects to the August service via your home wifi and then uses the lock's Bluetooth connection--in short, it's extending the range from ~40 ft to Internet-infinite; in theory, if both you and your house have an Internet connection, you can open the lock from anywhere in the world. If you only care to open the lock when you or someone else authorized is stood in front of it, then the lock alone is enough. That said, I'm on my 3rd August Connect and it's also beginning to misbehave disconnecting at random--don't buy the Connect if the lock alone meets your needs.
Question:	What is the power input rating (voltage) for the August Connect
Answer:	It says 110 - 240v 50hz - 60hz.
Question:	Do you need to have August Connect to be able to use August Smart Lock? If not, what does it do that Smart Lock doesn't
Answer:	The August lock by itself opens via blue tooth. Meaning you need to be within 15-30 feet. The connect makes it wifi, but it's buggy at best. The device connects to the lock via Bluetooth, and then you connect to the device via wifi. It works 1% of the time for me. Wait for an update.

Answer:	I haven't noticed any lag time. I agree with the other reply. It's a good buy. Has good sound as well. One thing I will point out is; With Bluetooth speaker on, when using the phone, the person on the other end can't hear me. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. No problem with texting. I mention this because; I have a job site radio with Bluetooth capability, and both parties can hear each other.
Question:	With no key at all, what if it malfunctions. How do you unlock
Answer:	The thing you want in any bluetooth speaker (if you don't want lag in video audio) is aptx LL (low latency) codec. But keep in mind since bluetooth is backwards compatible to previous version that didn't offer the low latency, even if a speaker had the ability to receive the audio quick enough so the sound matches up with the lip movements on the video screen so too does the sending device also need to be sending at the quicker speeds. So for it to work BOTH devices need to be connecting on the faster aptx LL codec level. Unfortunately that's a real long shot right now! I've spent literally days reading bluetooth descriptions of items and rarely see detailed codec info listed properly so people can make informed purchasing decisions.
Question:	Why is there no extended warranty available, while there is on the standalone lock
Answer:	They need to be tied. The laces in our pair were very short. These are great sneakers though!

Answer:	I purchased the kit as a gift to my grandson ( to spark his interest in electronics), so I’ve never seen the LED’s in action. I can say that did look over all the parts and can say that they seem to be standard multi color visible light LED’s. These LED’s would require a dropping resistor if connected to any power source with an operating voltage of more than just a couple of volts.
Question:	How many fingerprints will it store
Answer:	It's a good set if he wants to learn the foundations for programming Arduino - he could use that knowledge later if he will build some more serious digital sound hardware or robotic applications and depending on his career choice later, it could be something valuable to "play with" now.
