Answer:	This multimeter comes with MS3206, an adapter with hookups for diodes and thermocouples. Unfortunately the thermocouple sockets are useless on this multimeter. When used with other Mastech multimeters, such as the MS8217, this adapter + a thermocouple will read temperature.

Answer:	It does have a max/min function, but no longer-term memory storage. So, you could measure max/min values for one set of readings, but when you measure something else, the prior readings will be lost.

Question:	I am getting no reading when set to ohms, and I have the leads touching each other, can that be a buss fuse issue, as all other display's etc. seem OK
Answer:	More information might be needed, but I will make some assumptions and give as good an answer I can. First be sure you have selected the OHMS function. This is done by turning the dial to the second detent LEFT of the OFF position. Then press the SELECT button until a tiny OHMS icon with an M in front of it is displayed. The reading should show O.L at this time. Be sure your probes are pushed fully into the meter- the red lights on the connection indicators will go off when fully pushed in. When you touch the probe leads together the display should change to 000.0. Pressing the RANGE button at this time will change the display ICON and the output reading to reflect the selected range. There is not really any need to change the RANGE function- the meter does this automatically and shows the range it is using on the display. The lowest range (with just the OHMS icon and OL. should read somewhere around .4 or .5 when using the probe wires supplied by the Mfg. This is supposidly the actual resistance of the probe wires themselves. Further presses on the SELECT button will change the meter to another function- Decibel power, Diode test, Ground indicator, or Capacitance test. Each function shows a slightly different display and default output reading. Most (maybe all) functions also have Auto range and manually selectable ranges selections. Answer:	The Mastech MS8229 does not come with a carrying case or a strap in the original box. I was unable to find a case or strap made specifically for this device but, if the meter appears to fulfill your needs this should not be a deal breaker. I purchased an ideal Aluminum case(complete with handle) at a hobby shop, along with some foam. I cut and lined the case to hold both the meter, leads, and a few additional pieces of equiptment I typically carry. Works as well or even better than anything crafted by the manufacturer.
Question:	Is this meter a true rms measure
Answer:	No it's not, but unless you need a really a specific measurement when reading AC signals, this multimeter is not for you. when I bought this multimeter I had the same concern about not having the RMS measurement but really, you need to put in perspective what you need to do with it, because overall this is a great multimeter.

Answer:	At 0.543 ohms you are going to be reading the resistance of the meter test leads combined with the resistance of the part under test. hence the need for a expensive 4 wire high accuracy ohm meter.

Answer:	according to the product description towards the top of page the capacitance upper range is 200uf instead of 20uf, I recently measured a new run capacitor rated at 35 +/- .6 and it measured at 36uf

Question:	This comes supplied with an adapter for a K-type thermocouple probe. Will this work with a thermocouple, and if so what what setting is used
Answer:	The K-type thermocouple is included. It consists of a length of two different copper alloy wires that are welded together at one end and connect to banana plugs at the other. The weld is the measurement point. Just plug the thermocouple banana plugs into the meter input and set the meter selector switch for Temperature. I only tested it once but it seemed to work fine.

Answer:	Just make sure your PC is on line, the function will contimue working.

Answer:	Yes it is.
Question:	Is the USB interface able to record the current and plot it as a function of time
Answer:	Yes, the USB interface will record whatever value is on the display, the subdisplay and the range selected and plot it versus time. However, the accompanying PCLink software is difficult to use. I would recommend using PCLink to capture your data then export your data to an Excel file where you can manipulated it and have many more options for plotting. There are several bugs in PCLink, such as not being able to rescale data once collected, and it misreads the mode selected on the MS2115B. However, once exported to Excel you can fix all that. Finally, the export to Excel function is vvveeerrrrryyyyy slow, even on a modern Windows 10 computer with gobs of memory and hard disk space. But once the data is in Excel, you have free reign to manipulate it to your heart's content. You can then also save your data as a CSV file from Excel for other programs as needed.
Question:	What's the difference between max and inrush
Answer:	You must be very careful to understand the difference between inrush and max. The meter takes about 3 readings per second. For all modes except INRUSH, the meter is collecting data for 1/3 of a second. It may be taking hundreds (or thousands) of individual data points during that 1/3 second, then at the end of the 1/3 second will display the average of all values. The MAX function simply finds and holds the maximum value show on the display while in the MAX mode. An example would be a slowly rising then falling current reading, the MAX will simply show the highest number found on the display since you initiated the MAX mode. Also, if a short-time but large inrush occurs, its value will be lost by being averaged with all other data points during the 1/3 second integration period. INRUSH is very different. When this mode is selected, the display starts at " - - . - - A " indicating the INRUSH reading hasn't been triggered yet. As long as the current is below about 1 A, the display will not move off this value. However, when an inrush occurs, it is detected and triggers the reading. The sensitivity appears to be that 2 amps must be exceeded to trigger INRUSH readings when on the 60 A range, and greater than 4 amps when on the 600/1000 amp mode. During the 1/3 second display period, the highest peak found after the trigger will be held and displayed. It is not averaged with other data points. If an even higher inrush occurs after the initial reading, it will be ignored. You have to get out and restart the INRUSH function again. INRUSH roughly coincides with surge ratings for generators, and this meter will accurately measure the LRA (locked rotor amps) of motors and compressors.
