User questions & answers

Question: Forgive my ignorance, can I use this to measure the impedance of a guitar cabinet by contacting the test leads to the input jack
Answer: Good question! No you cannot. These meters use DC current to test resistance. Transformers and voice coils rely on AC current, which is what introduces inductive capacitance and reactance in a coil, also known as impedance. To keep it simple, these meters will give you an inaccurate reading for impedance values. Find a meter used for audio electronics to test these values.
Question: What batteries does this take
Answer: 2 batteries AAA
Question: what is the listed NSN on the back
Answer: there is no NSN for this model, it is a model designed for china but has been put on the "grey market". no formal support in the USA
Question: Doe this come with test leads? Odd that they aren't shown or mentioned, but Amazon implies you ought to buy a set with this
Answer: Its says they come with leads right on the box, my original purchase didnt so I returned it for credit and repurchased the item, the second one came with leads

User questions & answers

Question: What is the primary difference between the fluke 87v and the 87vMax
Answer: Hi the Fluke 87 is measures capacitance in several ranges, the lowest Range being 10.00 nF with a 0.01 nF resolution, the accuracy of this reading is 1% plus several counts. The lowest resistance range is 600 Ohms with a 0.1 Ohm resolution. So to answer your questions No it will not work for your pico farad measurements but it will read resistance less than 500 Ohms. If you need better capacitance reading capabilities you way want to look for s good LCR meter.
Question: is thier a difference in the fluke 87 and the 87-v
Answer: Yes. It has a temperature mode and includes a bead probe. It may be worthwhile to pick up the thermocouple adapter as well.
Question: how low can the meter read in picofareds? 1pf? 10pf? 100pf? not that low? Also the same in resistance
Answer: Yes, the meter will shut off unless it has battery back up which I don't believe it has by the description, but the killowat counter should restore.
Question: Can the 87-V measure temperature
Answer: Depends on what you mean by "calibration." You can validate the accuracy of the meter under several typical conditions, and that may be all you really need. However, if you would like to know the accuracy at every conceivable combination of current, voltage, frequency and power factor, then this is probably a task you wouldn't want to do. Certainly, this device is not intended to be a lab-grade instrument (claimed accuracy is something like 1%), so there's no internal memory to hold compensation information to accurize the measurement data. Remember, to "calibrate" you will make adjustments to bring the device as close to perfect (against a standard) as you can, while to "validate" is simply to compare the performance (with a standard) and note the deviations.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this multimeter be used for an Automtive Tech
Answer: While this multimeter can do plenty of things for automotive. Most serious mechanics get the 87 or 88 series.
Question: what is the range of the capacitor that can be tested in this model
Answer: hope this helps. Range/Resolution: 1000 nF / 1 nFRange/Resolution: 10.00 μF / 0.01 μFRange/Resolution: 100.0 μF / 0.1 μFRange/Resolution: 9999 μF / 1 μFRange/Resolution: 100 μF to 1000 μFAccuracy: 1.9% + 2Range/Resolution: > 1000 μFAccuracy: 5% + 20%
Question: Can this multimeter be used on vehicles for a parasitic load test? I don't want to spend over $400 for the Fluke 88 as it is for personal vehicle use
Answer: it has been used on motorbikes for sure. It just needs to be in amp mode. If you're doing parasitic load, then you're focused on DC Amps. The 117 has up to 6, while the 88 has up to 10. I don't see a big issue as you're just doing parasitic, not actual use. If anything actually pulls more than 6, you'll blow the internal fuse and have to replace it, but that's about it. Shouldn't be a problem(I've just tested mine on my car and it works).
Question: What are the differences to pick between the Fluke 117 and the Fluke 115? My intended use would for ham radio and kit-building of electronic kits
Answer: The 117 adds • VoltAlert™ technology for non-contact voltage detection • AutoVolt automatic ac/dc voltage selection Both are handy but not essential. Be aware of none of these 'electrician' Flukes (115/116/117) read milliamps or microamps -- essential for electronics troubleshooting & design work but unnecessary for electrician tech work. That said, when reading current in amps they do seem to read accurate down to around at least 0.010 amps (10 milliamps) or so.
Question: is it two prong or three prong? can't see it in the picture
Answer: It's actually made to be plugged into a grounded wall socket, replacing the 2 3-pronged outlets with its 6 available grounded outlets. It can even replace the outlet cover and be screwed into place. I've got a bunch of these and love them.
Question: What are the actual dimensions of this unit
Answer: against the wall, mine is about 4 inches wide, 4 3/4 inches tall, and about 1 3/4 inches deep
Question: Will this work with half-switched outlets (where one outlet is always live and one is switched), or do all the outlets get power from only one outlet
Answer: All power for this device comes from the TOP outlet of your receptacle -- so if that is switched then all outlets on this device will be switched (or if your bottom outlet is switched then all outlets on this device will NOT be switched).
Question: Can this actually completely replace the existing outlet wall plate, or does it only plug in/screw on TOP of the wall plate
Answer: This can replace the existing wall plate -- that's how I am using it.

User questions & answers

Question: Are you really sure about tenth of a volt? Manual says 1V resolution, and I own one of these and can't make it show tenths, DC or AC
Answer: I don't currently have one of these. But, the spec sheet indicates .1A resolution on the current measuring (A) scale. All of the voltage scales have 1 V resolution.
Question: Does the screen light up
Answer: No it doesn't... That's my only issue
Question: Is there any way to mount a TPAK hanger on a T5-1000? I would definitely purchase this if I could hang it off the side of a rack in a data center
Answer: What a good convenient meter. Unfortunately the only way to hang it is if you improvise your own solution. Perhaps the accessory pouch available for the meter would be a good starting place.
Question: does this read dc amps
Answer: No, it does not read DC amps. AC amps only. I almost bought a T5-600 based on the misleading answers to this question. Got a 362 instead - the 362 measures DC amps (the T5 series doesn't), and the 362 has one decimal for voltage - the T5 doesn't.

User questions & answers

Question: this fluke, 15B says it uses 2 AA batteries, the fluke 15 B by amazon says it uses one 9 volt battery. whats up with this
Answer: This is Original Fluke 15B+. We are direct seller from China.
Question: Does this meter make a beep sound when testing for continuity
Answer: Fluke designs in quality and safety first and features last. This is why you can't go wrong with a Fluke. With that said their lower end models are a bit Spartan. Like having a bargraph is really useful to notice quick flutter in what you're measuring ( since it updates much quicker than the number reading), also I would really try and get a meter with the min max feature. I find it indispensible especially if you don't own a scope. You can leave a meter in min max mode for hours and you can catch glitches that way.I find the 15b perfect for me being a computer engineer, but If you can stretch your budget get a 115 or one of the 170 series meters or even better one of the 80s, 87-V being the best. A Fluke multimeter is going to last you forever, meters don't really become outdated, I have an 8060A on my desk, it was built in 1985 and works like a charm. This is why I think it's worth spending a little extra for those few really useful features. The 15B is it's replacement after 30 + years. Also keep in mind if you're serious about electronics you want 2 meters. To measure multiple things at once and to double check and cross reference between them. Good Luck
Question: This is original fluke or chinese
Answer: The major advantages of the 87V Max are: Withstands drops up to 4-meters (13 feet) with industrial strength casing and holster Waterproof, dustproof IP67 case for the most extreme work sites
Question: Is the 15b+ a better choice than the
Answer: "is thier a difference in the fluke 87 and the 87-v" Is THERE a difference BETWEEN the Fluke 87 and 87-V?

User questions & answers

Question: This product is manufactured in
Answer: It says it was "Designed in USA" right on the back of the multimeter. But I think it was made in China. And my users manual says models 114, 115, and 117 are true-rms multimeters. It does not mention model 116, I don't know why. I really like this meter, it feels very well built and rugged. It measures LoZ, AC and DC Volts and Milivolts no Amps - I never have to worry if the leads are plugged into the correct jacks. Of course it measures Ohms and is lightening fast for continuity, I have compared it to an older Sunpro, BK Precision, and OTC and it is way faster. I added some TL175 silicone test leads capable of screw-on accessories and am very happy with it.
Question: What is the resistance range on this and how accurate is it? I will be working with resistance less than 1 ohm mainly
Answer: The lowest resistance range is 600.0 Ohms with a 0.1 Ohm Resolution. Working at less than 1 Ohm, I WOULD NOT recommend this meter, you want to look for a meter with milli-ohm capabilities/ranges. Even a meter with a 10 Ohm range will probably frustrate you

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be good for automotive work
Answer: Quite good.
Question: Is it made in the USA
Answer: No teerhe 100 series is designed in USA built in China. (To fluke specs) still high quality if you want a USA built model check out the 87-5 or 279 you pay for it though mine with nist cert was 600 bucks
Question: Is that cables included if I buy in this Fluke 115 true RMS multimeter
Answer: Fluke TL75 test leads are included.
Question: Would anyone recommend this for Computer repairs and checking wires in a Computer? (Future PC Technician starting out and shopping for tools
Answer: This multimeter is not good for computer repair. While it is accurate it doesn't have milli or microamps, which is very necessary for troubleshooting computers. You would need something like the Fluke 177 (a little more than 100 dollars more) and has microamps, or you could get something like a B&K Precision 2708B, which has milli and microamps. Also the B&K Precision is less than 100 dollars, so I would say for a budget meter it's the best considering its ability. I've watched reviews on dozens of multimeters, and the B&K Precision 2708B is pretty quick and quite accurate, especially at its price point.

Fluke T6 Electrical Testers with FieldSense technology

Measure voltage up to 600 V ac through the open fork, without test lead contact to live voltage. Without opening covers or removing wire nuts. On wires up to AWG 4/0 (120 mm2), carrying as much as 200 A. It will change your job. Safer. Faster. Easier.

The T6 Electrical Tester

Thanks to the new FieldSense technology, the T6 makes work safer as you can measure voltage up to 600 V ac through its open fork. Having the capability to measure voltage and current at the same time, together with eliminating the need to open covers or remove wire nuts, allows you to be faster and more efficient when taking measurements. In addition, the open fork is the widest available in the industry and can measure wires up to AWG 4/0 (120 mm2) carrying as much as 200 A.

What type of applications?

Commercial and light industrial electricians can use T6 Electrical Testers for basic troubleshooting, verifying voltage and continuity values as well as testing individual circuits while quickly checking current and voltage measurements without test leads. These devices easily fit in your pocket, making them easy to access on the front-line for electricians of all industries.

Why use the T6 Electrical Tester?

Typically, electricians encounter junction boxes crowded with wires, so finding the right connection point poses a challenge. With the T6-600 or T6-1000 you take measurements by sliding a single conducting wire into the open fork.

T6 Electrical Testers go beyond simple detection. They actually measure ac voltage, current and frequency without test leads. With the use of the provided test leads, the tools are also able to measure ac/dc voltage, resistance and continuity. The T6 testers use proprietary FieldSense technology, which makes measuring the voltage source safer for the electrician or technician performing the test.

Fieldsense Technology

FieldSense technology is truly a breakthrough in how voltage is measured. While the technology in the T5 detects a magnetic field to derive an ac current measurement, the new technology detects an electrical field. Fluke Research and Development teams first developed the open-fork voltage sensing technology, which involves transducing and calculating a known signal to derive measurements for the source voltage.

Fluke’s New T6-600 Electrical Tester – Measure voltage without test leads

Now measure voltage the same way you measure current, without test lead contact to live voltage.

FieldSense technology lets you slide the open fork over a conductor and see the voltage level.

Be Safer: Measure voltage to 600 V ac through the open fork, without test leads.

Be Faster: No need to open covers or remove wire nuts.

Be More Efficient: Simultaneously measure voltage and current.

Be Everywhere: 17.8 mm open fork is widest in the industry; measure up to 200 A on 4/0 wires (120 mm2).

User questions & answers

Question: Does the meter come with a magnet on the back ? If not, how can I have the meter stay on a metal surface instead holding the meter with my hand
Answer: No magnet. Leads are long to be able to set it somewhere while measuring, or if there is something to clamp the meter to, you can go that route. Maybe you can find a magnetic strap (with Velcro) to strap around the meter.
Question: Can the temp prob be calibrated by the owner? Can it read negative numbers? i.e. Freezer temps
Answer: The 325 will only go down to 14 degrees F and the meter lacks an offset adjustment. If the customer has access to a metrology lab we do publish the calibration procedures. Probes would typically be verified by a drywell calibrator.
Question: How is the temperature taken? Contact or infrared
Answer: Fluke 324 takes temperature by contact, it uses a thermocouple.
Question: Does the Fluke 324 measure DC Amps via the clamp
Answer: I am posting for other readers, One person who answered stated you can not read DC current with a clamp, this meter is AC current only but they do make clamps that can measure DC current, they are considerably more expensive, I own one and it I have used it on 12Volt Dc systems (cars) and it works pretty good.
