User questions & answers

Question: Looks like the 117 includes a non-contact voltage detector. does that mean i don't need a separate non-voltage detector, i.e. 2ac av tester
Answer: It will sense AC voltage with no contact if within range.
Question: Why is the 116 better for hvac guys than the
Answer: The only major differences between the 116 and 117 are thermometer and non-contact voltage detection features, the 116 having the thermometer but not non-contact. Fluke 3000 FC General Maintenance System

The Fluke FC Wireless General Maintenance System lets you work on electrical panels faster, safer, easier.

Connect the FC Wireless iFlex AC Current Module to your test point, and view the results up to 20 meters away on the FC Wireless Digital Multimeter. Or connect the FC Wireless AC Voltage Module and view both voltage and current measurements simultaneously.

You’ll save time, with less run-around collecting multiple measurements. Use multiple modules for measurements on three-phase systems, as a stand-alone measurement tool or combine with other Fluke Connect modules as a system for multiple measurements.

From short distances, you can even view readings from modules through closed electrical panels. Plus no more writing down data as the Fluke Connect remote modules capture up to 65,000 sets of time stamped min/max/avg readings, using the optional PC adapter. Fluke Connect wireless test tools also offer increased safety by letting you view readings in a separate location from the test point.

Now you can take readings on moving machinery, with only the measurement module in harm’s way.

Work safely near electrical panels while wearing less PPE

The Fluke 3000 FC True-RMS Wireless Multimeter and Fluke Connect wireless test tools put tools, not your body, near live electrical panels. It's simple. Just de-energize the cabinet, open the panel while wearing PPE and connect the remote modules, whether they are voltage modules, current clamps, flexible current loops or thermometers. Then read the results on the 3000 FC Wireless Multimeter from a safe distance. You can display the meter measurement, plus readings from up to 3 wireless modules, while reducing the risk of arc flash by separating yourself from hazardous measurement situations.

Better still, the Fluke 3000 FC Series Wireless Multimeter can send measurement data to your smartphone, so you can save and share measurements from the field with your team anytime, from anywhere.

Fluke Connect Enabled

Fluke Connect test tools communicate with the new Fluke Connect free mobile app on your Android or iOS smart device, allowing you to share live measurements, monitor readings from safe distances, and get your job done easier than ever before. The wireless digital multimeter functions as the mobile hub, displaying readings from up to three meter modules tools simultaneously from up to 20 meters away. User questions & answers

Question: Can this multimeter be used for an Automtive Tech
Answer: While this multimeter can do plenty of things for automotive. Most serious mechanics get the 87 or 88 series.
Question: what is the range of the capacitor that can be tested in this model
Answer: hope this helps. Range/Resolution: 1000 nF / 1 nFRange/Resolution: 10.00 μF / 0.01 μFRange/Resolution: 100.0 μF / 0.1 μFRange/Resolution: 9999 μF / 1 μFRange/Resolution: 100 μF to 1000 μFAccuracy: 1.9% + 2Range/Resolution: > 1000 μFAccuracy: 5% + 20%
Question: Can this multimeter be used on vehicles for a parasitic load test? I don't want to spend over $400 for the Fluke 88 as it is for personal vehicle use
Answer: it has been used on motorbikes for sure. It just needs to be in amp mode. If you're doing parasitic load, then you're focused on DC Amps. The 117 has up to 6, while the 88 has up to 10. I don't see a big issue as you're just doing parasitic, not actual use. If anything actually pulls more than 6, you'll blow the internal fuse and have to replace it, but that's about it. Shouldn't be a problem(I've just tested mine on my car and it works).
Question: What are the differences to pick between the Fluke 117 and the Fluke 115? My intended use would for ham radio and kit-building of electronic kits
Answer: The 117 adds • VoltAlert™ technology for non-contact voltage detection • AutoVolt automatic ac/dc voltage selection Both are handy but not essential. Be aware of none of these 'electrician' Flukes (115/116/117) read milliamps or microamps -- essential for electronics troubleshooting & design work but unnecessary for electrician tech work. That said, when reading current in amps they do seem to read accurate down to around at least 0.010 amps (10 milliamps) or so.
Question: is it two prong or three prong? can't see it in the picture
Answer: It's actually made to be plugged into a grounded wall socket, replacing the 2 3-pronged outlets with its 6 available grounded outlets. It can even replace the outlet cover and be screwed into place. I've got a bunch of these and love them.
Question: What are the actual dimensions of this unit
Answer: against the wall, mine is about 4 inches wide, 4 3/4 inches tall, and about 1 3/4 inches deep
Question: Will this work with half-switched outlets (where one outlet is always live and one is switched), or do all the outlets get power from only one outlet
Answer: All power for this device comes from the TOP outlet of your receptacle -- so if that is switched then all outlets on this device will be switched (or if your bottom outlet is switched then all outlets on this device will NOT be switched).
Question: Can this actually completely replace the existing outlet wall plate, or does it only plug in/screw on TOP of the wall plate
Answer: This can replace the existing wall plate -- that's how I am using it.

A Max/Min function records signal fluctuations and a hold function freezes measurements on the display. The 6000-count resolution, 3-1/2 digit digital display is backlit for readability in low-light conditions. The meter is safety rated for Category III to 600V and Category IV to 300V. It uses a 9V battery (installed) with a battery life of approximately 300 hours without backlight and has a sleep mode to maximize battery life. The meter measures 6.58 x 3.35 x 1.81 inches (H x W x D) and weighs 13 oz. /404 g. (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) This meter includes a holster with built-in probe holders for convenient storage. Multimeters are electrical test meters that measure multiple properties of an electrical circuit, such as current, voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Available in handheld or benchtop models, multimeters diagnose electrical problems in electrical equipment, wiring, and power supplies. A variety of probes, clamps, and leads can be used to connect the meter to a circuit or device. Multimeters display information either in analog or digital form. Factors that influence meter choice include the electrical properties to be measured, the anticipated range of results, and the desired level of protection against transient voltage. Safety ratings are based on International Electro technical Commission (IEC) standards for low-voltage test equipment. IEC 61010 delineates four overvoltage installation categories. In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating. Fluke Corporation manufactures electrical testing tools and software for industrial and commercial applications.

Fluke daily at work and chose the 174 as a nice unit for the house. Like you at home. I dabble and have used it for HVAC, car repair, and some bench work with arduino. At work I use a heavier model better suited for big voltages and 20+ amps. It really depends on your needsSorry, too much info. Yes this is a great choice for you and it is pretty simple,
Question: does this have the built in stand on the back that flips out
Answer: I just spoke with Fluke and they said that the 179/EDA2 _does_ include the TPAK hanging kit.I then called Amazon to confirm. Initially, the CSR said that NO, it is not included -- based on both the top photo and the "frequently bought together" listing showing the TPAK as a ~$37 add-on item. Then she contacted Fluke. Fluke confirmed that the TPAK strap is included. I will order and update this answer.EDIT: I received the meter today and it DOES include the TPAK magnetic hanging strap. I also includes a few replacement tips for the 'precision electronic probe'. 5 assorted sizes, all 0.040" diameter, for TL910. I don't recall them being shown or mentioned in the listing. Nice surprise!

User questions & answers

Question: Will this tell me which end of a run is bad " keystone and rj45clip" as well as test the cable run
Answer: The Scanner generates the tone and YES, I highly recommend this product. If you only need a tone generator you can use any el-cheapo tone generator and the 200 Probe will pick it up - you just don't get the "IntelliTone". If you're going to use this to verify cables, the fact that you don't have to carry around a Tone Generator in addition to this is a bonus for me.
Question: do remotes 2-7 verify correct wiring
Answer: It does not include calibration data unless this is requested when it's ordered.
Question: What is the maximum amount of remote id can be used if i have 60 network lines in the networks
Answer: Yes it is made in China as is a lot of their lower end meters
Question: I left my toner for the 200 probe ..somewhere, which part generates the tone the scanner or the cap? does it make sense to use this as a replacment
Answer: Yes. Super accurate and reliable. Just switch it on and touch the leads to the wires and the Fluke 113 gives you the reading you want. It automatically switched between ac and dc and all ranges. Stop asking questions and buy this. It's the last voltmeter you will need.

From the Manufacturer

Fluke corporation is the world leader in the manufacture, distribution and service of electronic test tools and software. These can trigger a sequence of events that may lead to serious injury. This is why test equipment must be designed to protect people who work in this high-Voltage high-current environment. The fluke 177 esfp true RMS digital multimeter is compact, rugged, reliable, and easy to use. Unlike averaging meters, which can accurately measure only pure sinewaves, true RMS meters accurately measure distorted waveforms. Calculating true RMS converters require a certain level of input voltage to make a measurement. The ac voltage and current ranges are specified from 5-Percent of range to 100-Percent of range. The selectable ac filter (smoothing mode) helps display a steadier reading when the input signal is changing rapidly or is noisy. The 177 is multi-lingual interfaced (eng, sp, fr, por), and features a 6000-count, 3-3/4-digit backlit display and a bar graph. Because the bar graph updates about 40 times per second, which is 10 times faster than the digital display, the bar graph is useful for making peak and null adjustments and for observing rapidly changing inputs. The min max avg recording mode captures the minimum and maximum input values, and calculates a running average of all readings. When a new high or low is detected, the meter beeps. The external accessible battery is easy for battery changes. The 177 runs about 200 hours without backlight on one 9-Volt battery (included). Also included are a user's manual and a set of test leads. An optional accessory is the 80bk-a integrated DMM temperature probe with a measurement range up to 260-degrees Celsius. The 177 meets cat iii and cat iv IEC 61010 standards. The fluke 177 esfp true RMS digital multimeter is sold one item per package.

User questions & answers

Question: is this made in usa
Answer: To be honest I don't know. Looking at the owners manual, there is no mention of the phrase ESFP. The book calls it a True-rms multimeter. You could contact Fluke at www.fluke.com and maybe get an answer there. I like the meter, very durable and relay able use it every day.
Question: Is the Fluke 177 much better than the Fluke
Answer: Shows distance to break. To test the far end you will need to use the attached receiver cap. With the cap you will also see any wiring with the wrong mapping. If you are looking for a unit to certify wired runs this is not the unit for that. As this unit will only tell you if the wire is termed correctly, plugged into a switch, plugged into phone service, and check POE, and give you the detailed info a proper certifying unit will.I also used this to diagnose a customers speaker issue. Made a cable to attach to the fluke. Gave me distance to the break and saved me a ton of time.
Question: Is this multimeter good for electronics? i'm an electronic engineering student and i need a multimeter for iot, ic's and college, etc
Answer: The main unit displays the correct or incorrect wiring. The remotes allow the tech to isolate the individual cables in a multi-cable run.
Question: What does ESFP signify
Answer: There are seven unique identifiers. The wiremapping remote that is snapped on to the top of the tester is #0, and the additional ones in the kit are #1 - #6. You can buy more sets of remotes, but they will all be numbered #1 - #6 as well, so they won't be unique. Typically people move them around to map out their network rather than connect a large number at one time.

User questions & answers

Question: Need a dmm stricktly for automotive use. will this work better than the 88v? can this measure pulse width too? is true rms necessary for automotive
Answer: Very well. The meter is held in by a velcro strap on one side of the case and there is a pocket on the other side of the case for the accessories. I have no problem zipping the case shut.
Question: The third picture shows the magnetic hanger, is that true of this kit or is it a seperate purchase
Answer: I believe the 177 is USA. Some inexpensive Fluke models are made in China and only have a 3 year warrant. Made in the USA is Lifetime. Calibration once factory seal is broken is valid for 1 year and I believe that is effective for all Fluke instruments.
Question: Are these in stock? How soon can they be shipped
Answer: Feature / Model 115 117 Application Field Service Electrician AC/DC Amps Yes Yes Frequency Yes Yes Capacitance Yes Yes Temperature No No Diode Testing Yes Yes LoZ (ghost voltage detection) No Yes VoltAlertTM (non-contact AC voltage detection) No Yes 115 vs 117
Question: How well does/can the carrying case hold the meter and all of the included accessories
Answer: The Fluke 177 is an awesome meter for an electrician. I would not advise the meter for an electronics engineer. Once you start needing other options you'll need to upgrade. Insteading of being stuck with 2 meters why not buy a 87V with any upgraded kits e.g, 87v e2. Keep in mind the resell value on USED flukes are great if you decide to upgrade to a higher model in the future.
