User questions & answers
Question: | can this product detect heat loss thru concrete |
Answer: | This is the most confusing part of the manual (since its all pictograms w/o any text describing it). What the trig setting (on or off) does: If set to "on" then the unit will, if the trigger is held in for 10+ minutes, shut off after 10 minutes. No effect on normal usage. The normal operation is press trigger, let go, read the display... 5-6 seconds later the unit shuts off. But if you toss it in your tool bag, pocket, etc and happen to depress the trigger and it stays that way, it will shut off after 10 minutes - to save battery life. I'd have like to seen a configurable time, or a smaller time - 10 minutes seems excessive. Anything over a minute seems excessive to me. |
Question: | I lost the wire attachment from my gun; can I still get an accurate room temperature reading without using the wire probe or laser sight |
Answer: | Fluke's web site shows that the Max+ is better in every respect except battery life with laser and backlight on (10 vs. 8 hours) but Amazon inverted the prices today so there's no trade-off to make:Top-end: 500 versus 650 °CAccuracy above 0 °C: greater of ±1.5 °C or ±1.5% versus greater of ±1.0 °C or ±1.0%Response Time: Optical Resolution: 10:1 versus 12:1Repeatability: greater of ±0.8% of reading or For my uses measuring attic temperatures, fry pans, fuse boxes, computer chips, hard drives and compact florescent bulb ballasts that seem to get hot before failing, either model would be fine. I hope that getting a Fluke means that this will tolerate static electricity and drops better and maintain accuracy as the battery wears down or the sensor ages so the specs actually mean something. |
Question: | does this unit come with a case? hard plastic or pouch |
Answer: | According to the manufacture's website the Max Plus can be manually adjusted for emissivity in a range from 0.1 to 1.00 |
Question: | Where's the country of origin |
Answer: | In the battery compartment of my Fluke 62 MAX+, it states that the unit was made in China in June 2012. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this determine if a lightbulb socket has power |
Answer: | It will always glow when the "hot" side is present. However, if you are missing the neutral to your lightbulb socket your lightbulb will not work, but the instrument will still glow, showing power is present. |
Question: | What does this one do better than a non-contact tester at 1/3 of the price |
Answer: | It has better build quality, and it's not made in China (to me that means it's less likely to contribute to my death or injury). |
Question: | is this better than the klien |
Answer: | I find the Fluke's build quality to be better than the Klein. If I drop the Klein, the tail cap falls off and the batteries fly out. I don't have that issue with the Fluke. Also the power button works better, my Klein's button is too sensitive. Also the Fluke I have (the 1AC model) will detect voltage in most tamper resistant receptacles without having to open the shutter, where my Klein will not (some user reported the Fluke is not sensitive but relatively my experience is the opposite). Finally, the Klein and the Southwire are made in China (although the Southwire at least has a LED flashlight built in). The Fluke is not made in China so it is easily worth twice the price to me. You can check out the Fluke and Southwire models at Lowes (and purchase there if you like one or the other). The Klein is often on sale at HD but I really recommend against it compared to the other two. |
Question: | What is the difference between fluke 2ac and fluke 1ac-a1-ii |
Answer: | The 2ac is the newer model with an "always on" function. It has a button that is used only to ensure that it still has battery power. The 1ac is the older one that can be turned on or off. They both test for voltage presence the same way, but the 1ac has an audible alert function which the 2ac does not have. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of batteries |
Answer: | Yes, it takes three steps. When you finish recording, press the stop button, then the back/"rewind" button immediately to the left of the record button. Then, press play. If you just press play after recording without pressing the back button, all you get is about one second of playback at the end of the recording. I don't see how to do it in two steps. But it would be nice if it worked that way. Maybe Philips could include an option in one of the settings menus that would allow users to select an "auto rewind at end of recording" setting or mode. Wishful thinking. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. |
Question: | how long do batteries last |
Answer: | There's no limit on the amount of files per folder. Files can't be named on the recorder itself, only on the computer, when downloaded. |
Question: | Does this thermometer read in Fahrenheit? It only shows Celcius in the ad |
Answer: | It is not built in, but will work on other devices that the microphone adapter will fit. I prefer that it is separate. |
Question: | Is this just for infants or can it be used on anyone? Does it thermometer beep and wake the baby |
Answer: | Neither of these recorders are really suited for Dragon Naturally Speaking software. You can contact us at: 877-275-5522 and we will help you come up with the best workflow solution for your industry. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How Can you measure oven temperature |
Answer: | You must have a surface that you are pointing the device at. In other words it is not going to measure the air temp in the oven. If you have a baking steel or Pizza stone this would be perfect to measure the surface temperature. If you want to get the temperature of the grate, that works too. I hope this was helpful. |
Question: | Will this device take body temperature accurately |
Answer: | No. For body temperature you want a specific part of the body that is an enclosed area, usually under the tongue with the mouth closed. But this device only measures surface temperatures. |
Question: | What are return policies |
Answer: | You can return usually to a ups after you request it online. Just print out the return form and take it to a ups |
Question: | Will this item measure air temperature from vents |
Answer: | Sort of, yes. Technically no. It measures surface temperatures so it will measure the temperature of the grill the air is coming out of. That should be pretty close the the air temp so long as it has been blowing steadily for a while. But if the heat/cool has just come on it will give an inaccurate reading. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are you really sure about tenth of a volt? Manual says 1V resolution, and I own one of these and can't make it show tenths, DC or AC |
Answer: | I don't currently have one of these. But, the spec sheet indicates .1A resolution on the current measuring (A) scale. All of the voltage scales have 1 V resolution. |
Question: | Does the screen light up |
Answer: | No it doesn't... That's my only issue |
Question: | Is there any way to mount a TPAK hanger on a T5-1000? I would definitely purchase this if I could hang it off the side of a rack in a data center |
Answer: | What a good convenient meter. Unfortunately the only way to hang it is if you improvise your own solution. Perhaps the accessory pouch available for the meter would be a good starting place. |
Question: | does this read dc amps |
Answer: | No, it does not read DC amps. AC amps only. I almost bought a T5-600 based on the misleading answers to this question. Got a 362 instead - the 362 measures DC amps (the T5 series doesn't), and the 362 has one decimal for voltage - the T5 doesn't. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this multimeter be used for an Automtive Tech |
Answer: | While this multimeter can do plenty of things for automotive. Most serious mechanics get the 87 or 88 series. |
Question: | what is the range of the capacitor that can be tested in this model |
Answer: | hope this helps. Range/Resolution: 1000 nF / 1 nFRange/Resolution: 10.00 μF / 0.01 μFRange/Resolution: 100.0 μF / 0.1 μFRange/Resolution: 9999 μF / 1 μFRange/Resolution: 100 μF to 1000 μFAccuracy: 1.9% + 2Range/Resolution: > 1000 μFAccuracy: 5% + 20% |
Question: | Can this multimeter be used on vehicles for a parasitic load test? I don't want to spend over $400 for the Fluke 88 as it is for personal vehicle use |
Answer: | it has been used on motorbikes for sure. It just needs to be in amp mode. If you're doing parasitic load, then you're focused on DC Amps. The 117 has up to 6, while the 88 has up to 10. I don't see a big issue as you're just doing parasitic, not actual use. If anything actually pulls more than 6, you'll blow the internal fuse and have to replace it, but that's about it. Shouldn't be a problem(I've just tested mine on my car and it works). |
Question: | What are the differences to pick between the Fluke 117 and the Fluke 115? My intended use would for ham radio and kit-building of electronic kits |
Answer: | The 117 adds • VoltAlert™ technology for non-contact voltage detection • AutoVolt automatic ac/dc voltage selection Both are handy but not essential. Be aware of none of these 'electrician' Flukes (115/116/117) read milliamps or microamps -- essential for electronics troubleshooting & design work but unnecessary for electrician tech work. That said, when reading current in amps they do seem to read accurate down to around at least 0.010 amps (10 milliamps) or so. |
Question: | is it two prong or three prong? can't see it in the picture |
Answer: | It's actually made to be plugged into a grounded wall socket, replacing the 2 3-pronged outlets with its 6 available grounded outlets. It can even replace the outlet cover and be screwed into place. I've got a bunch of these and love them. |
Question: | What are the actual dimensions of this unit |
Answer: | against the wall, mine is about 4 inches wide, 4 3/4 inches tall, and about 1 3/4 inches deep |
Question: | Will this work with half-switched outlets (where one outlet is always live and one is switched), or do all the outlets get power from only one outlet |
Answer: | All power for this device comes from the TOP outlet of your receptacle -- so if that is switched then all outlets on this device will be switched (or if your bottom outlet is switched then all outlets on this device will NOT be switched). |
Question: | Can this actually completely replace the existing outlet wall plate, or does it only plug in/screw on TOP of the wall plate |
Answer: | This can replace the existing wall plate -- that's how I am using it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I would like to use it to read the temp of oil in my turkey fryer would it be good for that |
Answer: | Yes it would be good for that. |
Question: | Hi i would like to use this device to measure my cast iron coal stove surface temperature. The range will be 400-700 degrees |
Answer: | I use this device for my wood burning stove that's in my outdoor sauna. I aim it at the side of the burning chamber and it works great. I know when it's 600F or higher, that there is a good burn inside. When the temp drops to 500F or lower, I know it's time to add wood! |
Question: | I am getting a LO reading what does this mean |
Answer: | Hello,There could be a few reasons. One could be that when the temperature is either above or below the measuring range, the LCD displays "HI" or "LO"; another reason usually is that you need to check the battery to see if you may need a new battery.Etekcity Support |
Question: | What is the distance that it can detect with accuracy |
Answer: | I calibrated mine by pointing it at a cup of boiling water and it was within a couple of degrees. I usually use it at fairly close range (wheel bearings, tires, heating pads, etc) so haven't done any tests to determine long range accuracy but because of the physics of infrared I have no reason to believe it would be any less accurate at longer range. However it is rated at 12:1 spot ratio which means at twelve feet it would nominally be measuring the temperature of a one-foot circle and the farther removed you are the large the circle you would be averaging. One reason I chose this model was because its 12:1 rating was tighter than many other brands which were rated at 10:1 and 8:1. I have also used it to detect cold spots in my walls while standing back 8-12 feet and it has done this reliably. |
