User questions & answers

Question: Are you really sure about tenth of a volt? Manual says 1V resolution, and I own one of these and can't make it show tenths, DC or AC
Answer: I don't currently have one of these. But, the spec sheet indicates .1A resolution on the current measuring (A) scale. All of the voltage scales have 1 V resolution.
Question: Does the screen light up
Answer: No it doesn't... That's my only issue
Question: Is there any way to mount a TPAK hanger on a T5-1000? I would definitely purchase this if I could hang it off the side of a rack in a data center
Answer: What a good convenient meter. Unfortunately the only way to hang it is if you improvise your own solution. Perhaps the accessory pouch available for the meter would be a good starting place.
Question: does this read dc amps
Answer: No, it does not read DC amps. AC amps only. I almost bought a T5-600 based on the misleading answers to this question. Got a 362 instead - the 362 measures DC amps (the T5 series doesn't), and the 362 has one decimal for voltage - the T5 doesn't.

Based on 193 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Fluke 113 True-RMS Utility Multimeter is a digital multimeter (also known as a multitester) that measures AC/DC voltage to 600V, resistance to 60 kiloohms, and capacitance to 9,999 microfarads. The meter has a diode check for testing general-purpose germanium, silicon, and power diodes, and a continuity beeper which provides audible detection of resistance by turning on at less than 25 ohms and off at 250 ohms. It is also able to simultaneously check for voltage and continuity. This true RMS meter provides accurate readings when measuring linear or nonlinear loads where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal or non-sinusoidal waveform and has both manual- and auto-ranging capabilities for user flexibility. A Max/Min function records signal fluctuations and a hold function freezes measurements on the display. The 6000-count resolution, 3-1/2 digit digital display is backlit for readability in low-light conditions. The meter is safety rated for Category III to 600V and Category IV to 300V. It uses a 9V battery (installed) with a battery life of approximately 300 hours without backlight and has a sleep mode to maximize battery life. The meter measures 6.58 x 3.35 x 1.81 inches (H x W x D) and weighs 13 oz. /404 g. (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) This meter includes a holster with built-in probe holders for convenient storage. Multimeters are electrical test meters that measure multiple properties of an electrical circuit, such as current, voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Available in handheld or benchtop models, multimeters diagnose electrical problems in electrical equipment, wiring, and power supplies. A variety of probes, clamps, and leads can be used to connect the meter to a circuit or device. Multimeters display information either in analog or digital form. Factors that influence meter choice include the electrical properties to be measured, the anticipated range of results, and the desired level of protection against transient voltage. Safety ratings are based on International Electro technical Commission (IEC) standards for low-voltage test equipment. IEC 61010 delineates four overvoltage installation categories. In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating. Fluke Corporation manufactures electrical testing tools and software for industrial and commercial applications.

  • Digital multimeter measures AC/DC voltage, resistance, and capacitance and performs continuity and diode tests
  • True RMS meter provides accurate readings when measuring linear or nonlinear loads where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal or non-sinusoidal waveform
  • Simultaneously checks for voltage and continuity
  • Manual and auto ranging modes for user flexibility
  • Safety rated for Category III to 600Volts and Category IV to 300 Volts

User questions & answers

Question: Does meter includes Calibration Accuracy Data documentation
Answer: Yes, the Fluke 113 has a stand on the back.
Question: Is this made in China
Answer: to calibrate meters (when that option is available), its an additional cost of $100-150
Question: Does this unit measure dc voltage in decimals? (i.e., 12.7v or 11.9v
Answer: This is a great choice for advanced DIY. Compared to less expensive alternatives you get superior accuracy, auto ranging, and some really nice features like continuity, and frequency.I use a! Fluke daily at work and chose the 174 as a nice unit for the house. Like you at home. I dabble and have used it for HVAC, car repair, and some bench work with arduino. At work I use a heavier model better suited for big voltages and 20+ amps. It really depends on your needsSorry, too much info. Yes this is a great choice for you and it is pretty simple,
Question: does this have the built in stand on the back that flips out
Answer: I just spoke with Fluke and they said that the 179/EDA2 _does_ include the TPAK hanging kit.I then called Amazon to confirm. Initially, the CSR said that NO, it is not included -- based on both the top photo and the "frequently bought together" listing showing the TPAK as a ~$37 add-on item. Then she contacted Fluke. Fluke confirmed that the TPAK strap is included. I will order and update this answer.EDIT: I received the meter today and it DOES include the TPAK magnetic hanging strap. I also includes a few replacement tips for the 'precision electronic probe'. 5 assorted sizes, all 0.040" diameter, for TL910. I don't recall them being shown or mentioned in the listing. Nice surprise!

User questions & answers

Question: Does this product have a magnetic strap holder so that it can be hung hands free? Does this product come with any test leads
Answer: Comes with its own thermocouple , will not except k type to plug in
Question: Original 15b/17b were released only to china market. then fluke made an international version for usa and europe. are these china or international
Answer: For strictly working with automotive applications I would recommend the Fluke 88V. A couple of features to note on the 88V would be that it can measure RPM (w/ inductive pickup) and it has the capabilities of measuring pulse width in milliseconds and seconds. The Fluke 87-V cannot display RPM measurements, and it can measure pulse width but only in seconds and not milliseconds. As for the True RMS and Averaging comparison, it would not be necessary to have a True RMS meter but it would not hinder you either. The Averaging and RMS meters would both be able to accurately measure from pure sinusoidal waves. True RMS meters would be beneficial in AC voltage applications where the AC characteristics are unknown and/or if the waveforms are complex, nonsinusoidal.
Question: Does this meter also display temperature in Fahrenheit

User questions & answers

Question: Can this multimeter be used for an Automtive Tech
Answer: While this multimeter can do plenty of things for automotive. Most serious mechanics get the 87 or 88 series.
Question: what is the range of the capacitor that can be tested in this model
Answer: hope this helps. Range/Resolution: 1000 nF / 1 nFRange/Resolution: 10.00 μF / 0.01 μFRange/Resolution: 100.0 μF / 0.1 μFRange/Resolution: 9999 μF / 1 μFRange/Resolution: 100 μF to 1000 μFAccuracy: 1.9% + 2Range/Resolution: > 1000 μFAccuracy: 5% + 20%
Question: Can this multimeter be used on vehicles for a parasitic load test? I don't want to spend over $400 for the Fluke 88 as it is for personal vehicle use
Answer: it has been used on motorbikes for sure. It just needs to be in amp mode. If you're doing parasitic load, then you're focused on DC Amps. The 117 has up to 6, while the 88 has up to 10. I don't see a big issue as you're just doing parasitic, not actual use. If anything actually pulls more than 6, you'll blow the internal fuse and have to replace it, but that's about it. Shouldn't be a problem(I've just tested mine on my car and it works).
Question: What are the differences to pick between the Fluke 117 and the Fluke 115? My intended use would for ham radio and kit-building of electronic kits
Answer: The 117 adds • VoltAlert™ technology for non-contact voltage detection • AutoVolt automatic ac/dc voltage selection Both are handy but not essential. Be aware of none of these 'electrician' Flukes (115/116/117) read milliamps or microamps -- essential for electronics troubleshooting & design work but unnecessary for electrician tech work. That said, when reading current in amps they do seem to read accurate down to around at least 0.010 amps (10 milliamps) or so.
Question: is it two prong or three prong? can't see it in the picture
Answer: It's actually made to be plugged into a grounded wall socket, replacing the 2 3-pronged outlets with its 6 available grounded outlets. It can even replace the outlet cover and be screwed into place. I've got a bunch of these and love them.
Question: What are the actual dimensions of this unit
Answer: against the wall, mine is about 4 inches wide, 4 3/4 inches tall, and about 1 3/4 inches deep
Question: Will this work with half-switched outlets (where one outlet is always live and one is switched), or do all the outlets get power from only one outlet
Answer: All power for this device comes from the TOP outlet of your receptacle -- so if that is switched then all outlets on this device will be switched (or if your bottom outlet is switched then all outlets on this device will NOT be switched).
Question: Can this actually completely replace the existing outlet wall plate, or does it only plug in/screw on TOP of the wall plate
Answer: This can replace the existing wall plate -- that's how I am using it.

User questions & answers

Question: Will these fit a Fluke 77/BN
Answer: Yes
Question: Will these leads fit the Fluke
Answer: It comes with test leads but doesn't come with magnetic strip holder.
Question: Is this a genuine Fluke product
Answer: The one I received appears to have been made for the China market. The box states "Not for sale outside of China, warranty void if sold outside of China". However, everything of importance on the device itself is printed in English, so other than the cardboard box, I expect the only difference is Warranty. The unit is quite robust and I don't expect any problems with it. If it did come to a warranty situation, I expect the cost of shipping and the time involved would outweigh the appeal of a Fluke warranty repair, but of course you'll have to judge that for yourself. That said, I'd be keen to know if you find a USA/Europe one for a similar price. I could probably use a third DMM :)
Question: Will these leads fit a Fluke Mdl
Answer: Yes, and rather accurately. But isn't it time we get on board with the metric system?

Selectable Filter and True-RMS AC Voltage for Dependable Accuracy

Incredibly responsive and reliable, the Fluke 87-V is accurate to 0.05% DC. Also, True-RMS AC voltage and current provide accurate measurements on non-linear signals. Additionally, a selectable filter ensures accurate voltage, while an input alert provides an audible warning against incorrect use of the input jacks.

The Fluke 87-V measures up to 0 A, up to 20 A for 30 seconds, and 1,000-volt AC and DC. Also, it features an analog bar graph that allows for measurement of quick-changing or unstable signals. What's more, this meter measures frequency to 200 kHz, as well as resistance, continuity, and diode test.

The Fluke records Min/Max/Average and has a Min/Max alert that automatically captures variations. The Relative mode removes test lead interference from low-ohms measurements.

Easy-Read Display and Safe, Durable Design

The Fluke 87-V comes equipped with a large, backlit display that shows easy-read digits. An improved selectable sleep mode helps increase the life of the battery, while an access door makes for fast battery changes without breaking the calibration seal.

The Fluke 87-V is also safe--it's independently tested to comply with the second edition of ANSI/ISA S82.01 and EN61010-1. Also, CAT IV 600V/CAT III 1000V rated, this handy meter can withstand impulses in excess of 8,000 volts and can reduce risks related to surges and spikes. Additionally, its tightly sealed design helps protect against damage, even when the unit is dropped.

User questions & answers

Question: This product is manufactured in
Answer: It says it was "Designed in USA" right on the back of the multimeter. But I think it was made in China. And my users manual says models 114, 115, and 117 are true-rms multimeters. It does not mention model 116, I don't know why. I really like this meter, it feels very well built and rugged. It measures LoZ, AC and DC Volts and Milivolts no Amps - I never have to worry if the leads are plugged into the correct jacks. Of course it measures Ohms and is lightening fast for continuity, I have compared it to an older Sunpro, BK Precision, and OTC and it is way faster. I added some TL175 silicone test leads capable of screw-on accessories and am very happy with it.
Question: What is the resistance range on this and how accurate is it? I will be working with resistance less than 1 ohm mainly
Answer: The lowest resistance range is 600.0 Ohms with a 0.1 Ohm Resolution. Working at less than 1 Ohm, I WOULD NOT recommend this meter, you want to look for a meter with milli-ohm capabilities/ranges. Even a meter with a 10 Ohm range will probably frustrate you

User questions & answers

Question: Looks like the 117 includes a non-contact voltage detector. does that mean i don't need a separate non-voltage detector, i.e. 2ac av tester
Answer: It will sense AC voltage with no contact if within range.
Question: Why is the 116 better for hvac guys than the
Answer: The only major differences between the 116 and 117 are thermometer and non-contact voltage detection features, the 116 having the thermometer but not non-contact. I would make a conclusion that HVAC technicians would have more use for a thermometer on the job, where electricians have more use for non-contact.
