User questions & answers
Question: | I am getting the entire display blinking when i put any load on the system. it blinks all zeros. i have it set for 100a, but am less than 100A |
Answer: | If your display is flashing or the reading seems out... (also if the reading stays 0 you probably have the wires from the shunt the wrong way round)The problem is the length of wires from where the shunt is (if it is not right next to the battery) causes a voltage drop across the cable that influences the reading and in most causes will cause the meter to flash as I suspect this is the over-read indication. (I am using three meters to measure two banks of solar panels and a wind generator)Solution: tie the battery side of the shunt wire to both 0v points on the meter . i.e. bridge the two inner pins of the connector and take the wire only to the shunt, this then takes the voltage drop over the cable to the battery out of the equation. |
Question: | does this meter count up the amp hrs used and then start subtracting them when charging begins. Giving you a running total |
Answer: | I bought two meters, so one measures charge, the other discharge. (Just wire the sensor wires in reverse for the discharge) |
Question: | Very happy, what's the proper way to read the "energy" section of the panel? Is it real time or an average of watts per hr |
Answer: | It is neither of those. The Energy section measures how much power you have used over time, i.e., the cumulative total of watt-hours. A watt-hour is equal to one watt of power used over the course of one hour. If you have a 5-watt LED bulb and you power it for 3 hours, your Power reading would consistently read 5 W for the whole time you're powering the bulb ("real time," like a speedometer), and the Energy reading would gradually change from 0 to 15 Wh over that 3-hour period (cumulative total, like an odometer). |
Question: | Can you use a toggle switch to reverse the small gauge wires so you can read either draw or charge while under load |
Answer: | FYI in the solution I offered above, it requires you to install the shunt for the charge circuit on the negative cable between your charging devices (all of them) and the negative post on the battery. The shunt for the load circuit should be on the negative cable between you negative battery post and the negative cable for you load panel. The load panel should have all your loads, both DC and inverter. The drawing that baylite provides does not show any dc loads. The common connection point should be the battery terminals. I hope that is clear. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i get an accurate amp reading on kitchen appliances such as toasters, microwaves with this meter |
Answer: | Sounds like what you need is a Kill-A-Watt meter (brand name). You plug the meter in the wall then plug the appliance in the meter. Real simple. Gives amps, watts, volts, etc. |
Question: | Can the clamp measure voltage without load |
Answer: | The clamp (non-contact) can only measure current (amperage), not voltage. To measure voltage, you'd need to use the probes on a physical connection (terminal or bare wire). |
Question: | I am working on a light fixture - if I want to test the actual wires (and not outlet) to see if they're live, what setting would I need to do this on |
Answer: | Nobody else said it, but if you use the clamp meter, it must be around a SINGLE wire, it will not work if you clamp around both wires of the cable. You must separate the wires, and clamp only one wire. And the clamp is only gonna measure current, so if the lamp isn't working, this probably won't work. If the plag is plugged-in though, there will be a voltage present, so a non contact voltage tester should be sufficient enough to tell you it's live. Please be careful. |
Question: | people said it has an audible beep for continuity and 2 people said it doesn't. What is the true answer |
Answer: | It does have an audible beep for continuity. It is an option that must be activated by pushing a button to enable this feature of continuity testing. |

User questions & answers
Question: | which setting is for volts, and which is for ac |
Answer: | The V with the two lines is DC volts and the line with the squiggly line is AC volts. |
Question: | is the continuity test audible |
Answer: | Good question. and I can't find an answer it doesn't say but in the picture when it's showing someone testing continuity it shows that it's beeping what it doesn't say that it does beat and we've got two people on here that say it does not and two people that say that it does so good luck I'm looking for one that is audible myself why all multimeters don't have an audible noise when you have continuity I will never know either that or you can have one that has a paper thin needle that jumps and you can't see it and you have to take your eyes off of what you're working on to see if you have continuity and when you move your head you lose contact and it's such a pain in the ass |
Question: | Is this unit protected by a fuse? If so, is it replaceable? My last meter was fused but it was soldered. I couldn't easily replace it |
Answer: | I had to replace the ammeter fuse (because I forgot to switch the hot (red) test lead from the left side to the middle, before testing my car's battery voltage). That fuse is 10A 600V. I looked around for those & couldn't find them, but found 10A 250V and these worked OK. They're 20 x 5 mm ( .2 x .79") ceramic fast-blow. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JFDTTMJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
Question: | Can this handle being plugged into a wall socket? Also, can someone give a walkthrough of how to safely test a socket |
Answer: | plug the red lead into the meter socket marked COM and the black into the center meter socket. Set the dial to V~ (for AC volts) on the 200 scale (for household current) insert one probe lead into each of the wall socket's vertical slots and move them around a bit inside the outlet slots to make sure you're getting a good connection, if in doubt plug a lamp or something into the socket. If you suspect the outlet socket itself has failed carefully remove the wall plate in order to access the actual wires connected to the outlet to be sure it's either a dead circuit or the outlet itself has failed. |

· The main function of the clamp meter is to measure current / ampere. To do this with any clamp meter, the hot and neutral wires must be separated or they will cancel each other out and give a zero amp reading.
· The battery is not rechargeable. When replacing the battery, you need to first unscrew the battery back cover with a screwdriver.
· When measuring voltage, press SEL/NCV to switch to DC or AC voltage.
· The function of measuring temperature can only measure liquid, -20~300°C(-4°~572°F)±1%+2
· The NCV function can be used when the function dial is rotated to any function key. To use the NCV function, keep pressing the SEL/NCV button.
· When the meter automatically shuts down, press SEL/NCV to wake up the meter.
· When there is no measurement, this is a normal phenomenon if the meter has a numerical value. Because there is an electric field in the environment around us, but the voltage of this electric field will be very small, the value displayed by the meter will not affect the measurement results.
· The value is unstable when measuring: it may be because the tip of the test pen does not completely touch the object being measured.
Multifunctional
When you measure resistance, diodes, switches, and capacitance, be sure to turn off the power to the circuit under test and discharge all capacitors.
AC current & AC/DC Voltage Measure

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a wiring diagram |
Answer: | Hello,the max AC current is 600A. |
Question: | What gauge wires are used? i'd like to order pcb's before this item arrives |
Answer: | Although this is a multi-function meter, it doesn’t have a function specifically for testing 3way circuits. Having said that, the ohm meter (third setting on the meter) could be used to identify a specific “NON-ENERGIZED” wire. If you have little or no experience with electrical wiring I can’t stress enough to make sure you have turned off power before starting. The last setting on this meter, labeled NcV, fortunately is a “voltage tester”. To use the voltage tester simply hold the pointed tip of the meter’s clamp up to a wire and you will receive an audible tone if voltage is present. Be sure to test it on a known live circuit beforehand to be sure that function on the meter is working. The shorter of the 2 slots on an electrical outlet is the “hot” or “energized” side. Touch the tip of the clamp up to the slot to test for a working tone. Once you have verified that power is off then you can safely use the ohm meter. Between each box there should be a green or bare copper grounding wire (older houses may not have it) providing continuity between the box’s and the grounding rod at your breaker panel. Touch 1 wire at a time to the “ground” at the first box and at the other box touch 1 test lead to ground and the other to 1 wire at a time until the meter’s display changes from reading OL (open line) to displaying a numerical ohm value. Mark the wires as you identify them, then follow the wiring diagram provided with the switch. |
Question: | Can I use an external shunt for a different range |
Answer: | This tool is 0 - 1 inch capacity. Crankshaft journals are much larger unless you are referring to lawnmower or similar small engines. I have seen good accuracy and repeatability with the one I bought. The ball is used to measure surfaces with a concave curve such as the inside wall of a piece of tubing or cylindrical shape. |
Question: | In shared power config, drawing shows thin red wire (left) and thin yellow wire (right), but both are on the pos power terminal. Can it be right |
Answer: | The thickness of 5.5 mm is a little less than 1/4" so this tool should be perfectly fine for measuring the plastic. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this to measure the voltage on my car battery |
Answer: | Voltage yes. |
Question: | is this meter a true RMS |
Answer: | Hi, HT200B is not true rms meter. There is fuse protection while reading continuity if voltage is present. |
Question: | Does it have an audible beep for continuity |
Answer: | It does have an audible beep for continuity and the LED lights up. |
Question: | Can I get an accurate amp reading on kitchen appliances this meter |
Answer: | They sell a gizmo that you plug your appliance into and then plug into the wall. It separates the wires so you can measure your amps. It's square in form. BTW, the start-up amperage of motors can be 3 times the working amperage. This meter will grab the highest current draw for you if you just push the "Max" button before you turn on the appliance. It will turn the LED display red to alert you that it's done that. Great meter. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the DC current measurment capaility? Are there no specs for this meter other than it can read up to 600v |
Answer: | It uses a Hall Effect sensor so the AC rating is the same as the DC rating. This website has the specs that confirms that: https://www.wantitall.co.za/tools/multimeter-tacklife-cm01a-clamp-meter-4000-counts-auto-ranging-digital-tester-with-ncv-ac-dc-voltage__b01n014use I tried it on my motorcycle, and it read the starting current of ~75A fine. The paper manual said the same. I can't find an electronic copy. The Amazon UK site has more info. It shows the range as 40A/400A https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N014CTB HTH. |
Question: | Is this meter fast enough to indicate max current draw on the battery cable of a starting vehicle |
Answer: | I have used a similar meter to watch the combined starting and glow plug current on a diesel Sprinter. No problem. Since this uses a Hall Effect sensor, instead of routing the 400 amps *through* the meter, overrange current pulses should not be a problem. |
Question: | What is the resolution of the current reading |
Answer: | While this meter reads to 1 milliamp that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is accurate to 1 milliamp. It drifts quite a bit in the milliamp range. You are given the option to zero it out before taking a reading, but it does continue to drift. It is a marvel that a Hall effect meter that can read DC is offered at this price, but don’t expect +/- 1 milliamp accuracy. I am a physicist by training and at one time worked at Textronix, a premier provider of test and measurement equipment. |
Question: | Can DC current be measured by the clamp |
Answer: | It not only measures DC current accurately via the clamp but it also indicates the direction of the current. Due to the disagreeing answers on this question, I went ahead and bought it. It works really well for DC current and is going to be be an excellent tool trying to troubleshoot a vehicle battery drain. Just remember that not all clamps measure DC current. Most cheaper meters do not but this one works great for it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anybody make one of these that allows monitoring two circuits with two ct's, and just toggle the display |
Answer: | I bought two meters and hooked up the coils to my wires coming from my generator feed to my double pole breaker , then I bought two more coils on eBay and put them on my main feed .Soldered the coils from both feeds to a four double pole mini switches so when the switches were in the up position the meters read the house power (normal power) When the four switches are in the down position I would monitor the generator feed when using the generator during a power outage.Wasn’t sure if the switches were necessary or if I could just parallel the coils from the a Phase and the ones feeding the b phase but used the switches to separate the coils from each other just in case. Works perfect this way.Now I can monitor normal power or generator power with just two meters. |
Question: | es resistente al agua |
Answer: | Saludo amigo no para nada no es resistente al agua |
Question: | Does the meter display values up to the test values or main specifications? (ie. rated up to 100 amps, but displays only up to 5 amps |
Answer: | (What are you connecting this too?) You’ll get what ever the AMP value from the watts divided by voltage. Watts / voltage = amps Im running 3500 watts at 240v = 14.5 amps (this is shown on my display) If you are only seeing 5 amps, then your wattage is only around 600w on 120v circuit. Hope this helps |
Question: | Does this record the amount of power used over a period of time |
Answer: | It records watt-hours, but not time. If you want to know how much power was used over, say 30 days, you must manually note when you first began monitoring the circuit. This can be as simple as taking a picture of the display with your phone, which will of course time/date stamp your picture. One added benefit, it will retain watt-hours even if power is lost. It is not cleared until you manually clear it with the button to the right of the display. |
