Answer:	I would advise against it. This is only a CAT 2 rated meter. That means the internal safety features are not sufficient to handle the higher potential voltage and energy that could come about at a meter panel. http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5019/enYou really want a CAT 3 meter if you want to measure any live breaker panels.If you are going to test for bad circuit breakers that are disconnected from the live wiring then you could use this meter to check for continuity and the like. Do not use this meter on anything more powerful than a wall outlet. CAT 3 meters are available for not much more money.
Question:	What's the lowest ohm reading it is capable of
Answer:	Yes, the Innova is great for finding parasitic leaks in boats and cars. Turn everything off..... EVERYTHING and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Insert the meter in series with the neg bat terminal and the end of the cable. If there is a current leak it will show on the meter when it is set on the AMPS function. Becareful that you don't turn anything on when the meter is connected because the AMP mode is not fused. If a current reading shows on the meter start pulling fuses and disconnecting devices until the reading drops to zero therefore isolating the problem

Answer:	I'm assuming you have tried moving the main test mode selection dial to some position other than 'off'. Do you have another 9V battery on hand you could use instead? It's possible the battery you received with the tester is bad. If another battery does not solve the issue, then it's possible you received a bad unit.

Question:	Can this handle being plugged into a wall socket? Also, can someone give a walkthrough of how to safely test a socket
Answer:	plug the red lead into the meter socket marked COM and the black into the center meter socket. Set the dial to V~ (for AC volts) on the 200 scale (for household current) insert one probe lead into each of the wall socket's vertical slots and move them around a bit inside the outlet slots to make sure you're getting a good connection, if in doubt plug a lamp or something into the socket. If you suspect the outlet socket itself has failed carefully remove the wall plate in order to access the actual wires connected to the outlet to be sure it's either a dead circuit or the outlet itself has failed.

Tips:

1. The automatic range digital multimeter has a large internal resistance (high input impedance), and there is induced voltage interference when open circuit. The AC DC gear will have a digital jump when it is turned on, but it will not affect the measurement.

Question:	I tried inserting the battery in my 6000 auto ranging digital multimeter device both ways and it still not powering up....wat do u think is the prob
Answer:	That pic with the tire is probably from step-up multimeter model which has temperature measurement feature with thermo-sensor placed at the end of wire connected to multimeter, so pic shows how to measure temperature of hot tire. But this multimeter does not have that temperature feature (that model cost about 25$).
Question:	Ranges are 600 mv to 750V and 1000V, Will it measure voltages below 600mv
Answer:	I use it for all my auto/house circuitry. It has wireless voltage alert if you feel uncomfortable sticking leads into an outlet. Just hold the meter within a few inches of an outlet, power cord, appliance, etc and it will beep if there's live voltage.

Answer:	Sounds like what you need is a Kill-A-Watt meter (brand name). You plug the meter in the wall then plug the appliance in the meter. Real simple. Gives amps, watts, volts, etc.
Question:	Can the clamp measure voltage without load
Answer:	The clamp (non-contact) can only measure current (amperage), not voltage. To measure voltage, you'd need to use the probes on a physical connection (terminal or bare wire).
Question:	I am working on a light fixture - if I want to test the actual wires (and not outlet) to see if they're live, what setting would I need to do this on
Answer:	Nobody else said it, but if you use the clamp meter, it must be around a SINGLE wire, it will not work if you clamp around both wires of the cable. You must separate the wires, and clamp only one wire. And the clamp is only gonna measure current, so if the lamp isn't working, this probably won't work. If the plag is plugged-in though, there will be a voltage present, so a non contact voltage tester should be sufficient enough to tell you it's live. Please be careful.

Answer:	You should be able to touch the red probe on the positive side and the black probe on the negative side of your car's battery. You do not need to unhook the clamps to your car's battery to check the voltage.
