One hint: check for squareness of the assembly by closing the stairs and seeing if the door cover (presumed to be a rectangle) lines up.

Probably one spring broke so they removed the other. How does it stay closed with no springs? Answer:	I have this installed in my garage with an 11 ft ceiling.. It comes with a expandable pole to reach the loop to pull the door down. Once that is done, being 5ft 9 inches tall, I use a 3 step stool to stand on to fold out the ladder to the floor. I also use the step stool to stand on when folding it back up. I have had it installed for almost a year now and have always opened and closed it by myself.
