14 best ladder hooks for steep roofs
Ladder hooks for steep roofs are specialized accessories used in construction and maintenance work to securely attach a ladder to a steeply pitched roof. These hooks are designed to enhance safety and stability when working at elevated heights on sloped surfaces. Here's what you need to know about ladder hooks for steep roofs:
Design: Ladder hooks for steep roofs typically consist of two curved metal hooks or brackets. One hook is attached to the top rung of the ladder, while the other hook is placed over the ridge of the roof.
Materials: They are commonly constructed from durable materials such as steel or aluminum to withstand the weight of the ladder and the user while providing a secure grip on the roof's surface.
Purpose: The primary purpose of ladder hooks is to prevent the ladder from slipping or sliding down the steeply pitched roof, ensuring the safety of the user. They provide a stable and reliable anchor point for the ladder.
Installation: Ladder hooks are relatively easy to install. The hook attached to the ladder is typically secured to the ladder's top rung with bolts or screws, while the other hook is placed over the roof ridge. The ladder is then leaned against the roof, and the hooks grip the surface securely.
Adjustability: Some ladder hooks are adjustable, allowing users to accommodate various roof pitches. They can be modified to suit the specific angle of the roof for a better fit.
Rubber Padding: Many ladder hooks come with rubber padding or grips on the side that contacts the roof's surface. This padding helps protect the roof from damage and provides additional stability.
Safety Features: Some ladder hooks include safety features such as locking mechanisms or straps to further secure the ladder in place and prevent accidental dislodging.
Weight Capacity: Ladder hooks are designed to support a specific weight capacity. Users should ensure that the ladder and the user's weight do not exceed this capacity to maintain safety.
Use Cases: Ladder hooks are commonly used by professionals in roofing, construction, and maintenance industries. They are essential when working on steep roofs, as they significantly reduce the risk of accidents and falls.
Storage and Portability: Some ladder hooks are foldable or detachable for easy storage and transportation when not in use.
In summary, ladder hooks for steep roofs are vital tools for ensuring safety and stability when working on sloped surfaces. They are designed to securely anchor a ladder to the roof, preventing it from slipping or sliding and reducing the risk of accidents. These accessories are commonly used in roofing, construction, and maintenance applications, where working at elevated heights on steeply pitched roofs is necessary.

Answer: | not exactly sure- but they are heavy. Hard to lift ladder with them installed! |
Question: | Are the wheels on casters or fixed position |

User questions & answers
Question: | With detention ladders, what keeps the back one from extenuating |
Answer: | The lock on the ladder..... |
Question: | Why does this one have the blade edge to shingles and not the other side as others have it |
Answer: | This ladder hook is meant to have the wheel feature used to roll the ladder up over the ridge and then the ladder is turned over to hook on the ridge. |
Question: | What are the dimensions of the hook portion? Need to go over a thick parapet |
Answer: | 6.75 inch opening. From flat portion total curve is 9.75 inches. |
Question: | I just came across this item. we do work off of roofs quite a bit. What are the wheels used for, or rather, what is the purpose of the wheels |
Answer: | The wheels roll the ladder up the roof and then you turn it over to hook it to the top edge. That keeps your ladder from tearing up the roof shingles. This works well especially since this model is so heavy because it is made out of steel instead of aluminum. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it compatible with the Werner multi position ladders |
Answer: | Only if you were to modify it, and I would not do that!! It pieces together well with the ladder sections that it was designed for. I know it’s pricey, but it’s the best option for steep roof pitches. There are other ladder hooks out there to attach to a regular extension ladder, but I preferred this one. If you can get past the cost, I recommend it. |
Question: | What is the diameter of the hooks |
Answer: | Hook secures ladder when placed over the roof ridge. No need to bolt the hook to the roof except when the roof pitch is so low that the hook does not catch at the ridge. |
Question: | will this work with a ridge vent |
Answer: | Sometimes, depending upon the pitch of the roof, there isn't enough clearance to work with some roof vents. |
Question: | will these work on any ladder or just Warner |
Answer: | This product is made in Milwaukee WI. |

ACRO 11610-COMBO Set Contains 6ft Ladder Sections & Reinforced Hook
User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this product if the roof has a ridge vent |
Answer: | No this will not work on any multi position ladders. |
Question: | What is the length of each ladder section |
Answer: | From rounded hook just above swivel to hook end at thickest point is 7 1/8" on the inside. From highest inside arc to imaginary line from same swivel point is 4 1/4". I got them to use on a backyard cement block wall which had some slight rounding on the top instead of a cap row and it works okay on that. The wall was made with narrower blocks than some older walls. |
Question: | Don't gutters get in the way of the bottom-most section extending past the roof line |
Answer: | yes be careful with a metal roof it will want to slide up. but ridgevent will be fine. |
Question: | Where do get padding for this ladder |
Answer: | Any fiberglass ladder |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this product be used on a roof with a ridge vent |
Answer: | Any length will work with it, if it is an extension ladder, you could take it apart so it will lay flat against the roof |
Question: | Can it be attached to a step ladder |
Answer: | Yes, I have used it over ridge vents on shingle roofs as well as ridge caps on steel roofs. The radius of the hook spans the ridge. |
Question: | Can this be used with a regular extension ladder or single piece aluminum ladder |
Answer: | You are correct. These hooks are about 1" center to center of the hook, with only about 11/16" between the hooks themselves. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Do you need to bolt the hook onto the roof? Or does it actually secure when just being ran over the peak |
Answer: | Dear customer. Currently we are testing those hooks, by the end of this month you can find it in our amazon store. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do I fix it to the ladder |
Answer: | I just used 1 hook. Stability wasn't an issue since the sides of the ladder increase the surface area in contact with the roof. It didn't 'wiggle' at all. I did choose to 'tie off' the ladder using a stout rope to an old-growth tree on the opposite side of the roof as an added precaution - more for peace-of-mind than anything else. I've used it about 4 times this way and feel very confident in it's design. The only way I'd recommend using 2 hooks would be if 2 people would be on one ladder (yikes!) or if the pitch of the roof is excessive, or a combination of the two. |
Question: | Do you get two hooks when ordered |
Answer: | The safety issue is up to you, but I would consider the following advice safe enough for me (I weigh ~175 lbs). I don't have one of these ladder hooks yet, but it looks to me like you could put metal rods (threaded at each end) across your step ladder at two appropriately placed positions to fit this ladder hook and not get in the way of your feet when using the ladder normally or on the roof. I'd size the holes for a tight fit, and use lock washers under the nuts (and, being aluminum, I'd probably use 2 nuts and 2 washers on each end - a nut and flat washer on the inside side of the rail, and a nut and lock washer on the outside side of the rail; tighten one nut against the other to avoid too much inward pressure on the two rails ... none is needed). With a little more risk, you could use an appropriately sized wooden dowel (definitely size the holes for a tight fit, and I'd add a thin bolt on each end, as pins, to guarantee it can't slide out of the holes). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work on K style gutters? Looks like it would leave a dent |
Answer: | Yes it will work with the various adjustments. You do not have to clamp it that hard to have the proper support. Hope that helps. I bought one unit, but wish I would have bought 2. |
Question: | Will this work with a Little Giant ladder |
Answer: | I would not waste the money! |
Question: | Will this work on a Xtend & Climb Ladder |
Answer: | Hello Chadwick,Yes, this is the same ladder as the telesteps ladder and as long as you adjust the Lockjaw properly, it will work on the Extend & Climb. It won't be as snug fitting as a rectangular style ladder would be but would certainly add stability. A safety note.***In most cases the Xtend & Climb is not designed to allow you to access a rooftop as it doesn't extend long enough to give you proper access past the roofline. Extreme caution should be used if using this type of ladder to gain access to top of roof and should never be used on a job site as it doesn't meet code. |
Question: | vinyl gutters |
Answer: | Hello it is a good question. Lock Jaw was designed for metal gutters. The jaw locks on under the lip. Is the vinyl gutter robust and would you normally lean a ladder on it ? Could you send a photo? Also the product comes with a 30 day money back guarantee. Regards Gail |
