Question:	do you have to oil it
Answer:	Oiling the motor once or twice a year will extend the life of the motor. If the motor requires oiling, oil ports or openings will be located on both motor end plates. Use a SAE 20 non-detergent motor oil.
Question:	Has anyone retrofitted one of these to a roof vent
Answer:	I did one in a gable vent, it comes with nice instructions. I mounted it on a piece of plywood then mounted two 2x4s to the gable vent framing then mounted the plywood to the 2x4. It was easy, my 12 yr old son and I did it in 30 minutes. It was summer time in the attic so we wanted to do it fast. I bought a cheap extension and cut off one end and wired it to the leads then ran it to an outlet in the attic.
Question:	How long is the thermostat wiring. How far will it reach away from the fan
Answer:	Wiring on the fan thermostat is very short about 12" or so. I rewired it and moved the thermostat to a location about 25 feet away. This allows me to set the thermostat without having to crawl down the entire length of the attic.
Question:	The 2500 cfm fan uses less power than the 1500 cfm? and haf of the 1600 cfm? Am I missing something here

Question:	What is the difference between afg smt-es 3.0 & afg pro-3.0 ? I can't see differences nor different purposes. Is one quieter than the other
Answer:	AFG SMT ES 3.0 has an electronically commutated motor (very energy efficient) and the unit comes with Bluetooth capabilities. The AFG PRO 3.0 has a permanent split capacitor motor (still energy efficient) and is operated via an external thermostat.

Answer:	It is and I would say about 20 feet long. It reached from the vent across a portion of the attic and down through an air vent grid in the furnace closet to plug.

Answer:	I'm disappointed with the noise I've experienced, although it may be unique to my install. I didn't use an "attic fan" installer but rather an electrician who was reasonably priced and trustworthy. Firstly I had him back to add 1/2" thick foam to quiet it down. That helped but I still get a humming sound at various frequencies/speeds. This might be rectified by yet another fix that I found (but haven't performed) on the quiet cool's website....https**quietcoolsystems.com/support/fix-vibration-caused-afg-smt-3-0/ I'm also disappointed that the humidity sensor has it running many evenings and night's until sunrise in inland southern California. And all day and night when it rains... Perhaps there something wrong with mine but this has been my experience...we had the same electrician add a switch up high on our wall so we can kill the fan when it rains. Great concept and potential energy savings but my own experience has been disappointing.

Answer:	I looked through the Amazon offerings, but I saw no mention of voltage. I'm guessing that another company does make maybe a bigger fan, and I guess that it could run with 220volts. I guess that one might have to do some searching to find that question's answer, but I'm just happy with the 120 volt fan, and it has worked now for a number of years. Answer:	I'm not sure of the of the type of motor it is. My motor is still running well, and it runs well with the thermo. I broke the AC to the motor, so that I can shut the fan down for the winter or another type of situation. I would guess that it might be a capacitive start, and over time with a speed control????

Question:	Can this fan be installed in the ceiling
Answer:	Yes, I installed in a 16 inch opening that used to be a swamp cooler, with a weather proof bell on the roof. The vents open more than 1/2 way on high speed and it draws air in from any windows I open. It is not any noisier than a room fan, T.V. & conversations are easily heard. I do not use the speed controller, just installed a plug in the shaft and use an Alexa receptacle to turn off & on. 2x4 frame & long screws keep it secure & vibration free.
Question:	can two of these fans be wired to a single power cord and run properly
Answer:	The mfgr. specs say that this fan draws 1/5 amp when on. So wiring 2 fans to any 15 amp circuit/breaker is fine. I have 2 of these wired to one single 15 amp breaker /wire or power cord.
Question:	what direction does the air flow? Does it flow in through the shutters or out through the shutters
Answer:	Air flow go’s out through the shutters very powerful if you get it with the speed control works amazingly great
Question:	I was thinking about an indoor application: is it very loud on the higher speed setting
Answer:	"loud" is hard to quantify. I'm using this as a window fan, and I'd rate it a little less noise than the typical 20" box fan on high. However, it moves much more air than the box fan. The speed controller that comes with the fan will make *more* noise because it causes the motor windings to ring. I find it very annoying and prefer to run the fan without the control. Mounting the fan using isolating rubber washers so that there is no direct contact between the fan and the mount helps to reduce the noise transmitted by vibration to the window frame. It's best to mount it to a material such as MDF or melamine-covered MDF instead of plywood or OSB, because MDF is better at damping vibrations--the reason why it's used in speaker enclosures instead of plywood.

Question:	I am looking at the 24" variable speed model to get heat out of the garage. Can I use an existing 3-speed (ceiling) fan switch to control this unit
Answer:	It is likely not rated for enough amperage and some ceiling fan switches have 4 wires and some have 3
Question:	Is this fan suitable for use in a greehouse
Answer:	It’s an exhaust fan so if your looking to pull the hot air out then I would think you could use it in a green house.
Question:	Can the louvers be mounted on the air intake side of the fan
Answer:	Do you need an intake fan instead of exhaust air out? If so, we do not make one at the moment.
Question:	rough opening size for the 24" fan
Answer:	I installed a 24” fan using a 24 1/2” x 24 1/2” rough opening. 24 1/4” would do it but to be safe I went a little larger.

Question:	Are two recommended 1 for each end of the house? If gable vents are in place do you need louvers
Answer:	Hello, thanks for your email. Depending on the size of the house, you may or may not need two attic fans. If one fan can't not effectively take out the hot air on the other end of the house, it's recommended that you install another one. Louvers are not necessary unless you care about the look. Thanks.
Question:	Does this fan's thermostat have a "firestat" feature (part of the wiring that melts at very hi temp to shut off fan if your house is on fire
Answer:	Normaly these motors have a temp overload built into the windings of the motor. I have not seen one that did not have it.
Question:	Does this unit come with the L to attach the fan to plywood or joists
Answer:	Yes, four L brackets come with the fan.
Question:	What size shutter gable vent is required
Answer:	The fan housing is 15 inches in diameter. I have used gable vent fans like this behind vents that were as small as 12 inches by 16 inches and as large as 24 inches by 36 inches.

Speed Controller

With a separately Variable Speed Controller, make it easy to adjust the speed of the ventilation fans to your requirement. Save energy and control the noise levels of the ventilation fans.

• Range from 70% to 100%
• Start by turning the knob to High and gradually decrease the power to you desired power level.When finished,turn knob back to OFF.
• If the speed controller is not connected, the exhaust fan will run at maximum speed.
