10 best heat underfloor heatings
Underfloor heating, also known as radiant floor heating, is a heating system that is installed beneath the floor surface to provide efficient and even heating to a room or space. It is a popular choice for home heating and is related to thermostats, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), building supplies, and tools in the realm of home improvement. Here are some key points about underfloor heating:
Types of Underfloor Heating: There are two primary types of underfloor heating systems:
Electric Underfloor Heating: This system consists of heating cables or mats installed under the flooring. Electric underfloor heating is suitable for small areas or for retrofitting existing spaces.
Hydronic (Water-based) Underfloor Heating: This system uses a network of water pipes or tubing installed beneath the floor. Hot water from a boiler or heat pump circulates through these pipes to heat the floor.Hydronic underfloor heating is more commonly used in larger spaces or new construction.
Even Heating: Underfloor heating provides even and consistent heating across the entire floor surface, eliminating cold spots and creating a comfortable indoor environment.
Thermostats and Control: Thermostats play a crucial role in regulating the temperature of underfloor heating systems. Modern thermostats offer precise control and scheduling options, allowing users to set specific temperatures for different times of the day.
Energy Efficiency: Underfloor heating can be energy-efficient because it operates at lower temperatures than traditional radiators. This can result in reduced energy consumption and lower heating costs over time.
Types of Flooring: Underfloor heating is compatible with various types of flooring, including tile, stone, laminate, and engineered hardwood. It is essential to choose flooring materials that conduct heat effectively for optimal performance.
Installation: Installation of underfloor heating systems typically involves laying the heating elements or pipes beneath the subfloor or within a specially designed mat or panel. It's essential to follow installation guidelines and, in some cases, consult professionals for installation.
Zoning: Underfloor heating systems can be divided into zones, allowing for individual temperature control in different rooms or areas of a building. This zoning can enhance energy efficiency and comfort.
Maintenance: Underfloor heating systems are generally low-maintenance. Regular checks for leaks (in hydronic systems) and ensuring the thermostat and controls are functioning correctly are essential.
Comfort and Aesthetics: Underfloor heating eliminates the need for visible radiators, providing more design flexibility and freeing up wall space. It also offers a comfortable heating experience as the floor is warm to the touch.
Underfloor heating is a popular choice for homeowners looking to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their homes. When considering underfloor heating, it's crucial to assess the specific requirements of your space, choose the appropriate system, and install it correctly to enjoy the benefits of this efficient heating method.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this dhekrt12016-cmf kit by global trade include a floor sensor? ideally 2 sensors |
Answer: | Hello, its about 1/8" diameter. Heatizon Systems Team |
Question: | How long is the cable |
Answer: | The hard part about this answer is that it depends on how much you use it. To figure it out you would need to find out the kw/h price from your electric company and then depending on what size system you get (for 140sqft) you will use about 1.2 kw to 1.8 kw while it is on, so IF you're rate is .08 kw/h, it would cost you about .10 - .15 per hour you use it. Hopefully that helps. |
Question: | how thick is the membrane |
Answer: | Yes this particular system is designed for 240V |
Question: | Can this replace the heat in a small powder room bathroom |
Answer: | This cable being a dual parallel conductor and shielded has zero EMF. Regarding EMF, this is the current conclusion of WHO after 30 years of research about low level EMF exposure. - "WHO concluded that current evidence does not confirm the existence of any health consequences from exposure to low level electromagnetic fields" -https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/radiation-electromagnetic-fields |
Question: | What is the cable diameter |
Answer: | Hello, this product has only been designed for indoor floor heating, not outdoor. |
Question: | What is the annual cost for a 140sqft system |
Answer: | Hello, you can set the thermostat between 41F and 104F, a heated floor would usually run between 80 - 86 deg F. Yes once the floor reaches your selected temp it'll remain constant at this temp. |
Question: | Can this be wired to a 240v 2 wire with ground circuit |
Answer: | Hello, as with most floor heating cable systems, the LuxHeat system does require a mortar/cement or leveling compound to cover the cables. This provides a heatsink for the cable, and promotes even heat distribution throughout the floor. Without the mortar or leveling compounds to cover the cables, the system will overheat. |
Question: | Emf levels? Does it have an armored dual core cable |
Answer: | Hello, the LuxHeat heating system is UL approved for floor heating only, I wouldn't recommend it for a counter top. There are other self-regulating heat-tape options that would be better suited for that application. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can thos be cut to fit room size |
Answer: | No, they have a special termination at the end and the cable can not be cut, it would be useless. |
Question: | I'm looking for something to put actually under the floor, between the joists. will this work |
Answer: | I’m not sure why you would do that, but if you are installing under subfloor NO. |
Question: | How hot do the wires get |
Answer: | The wires do not get very hot they are insulated also the heat is radiant so when the Floor gets warm it stays warm |
Question: | Will this work with peel and stick laminate flooring? I want to put this in truck camper |
Answer: | Stick in peel is the glue so it will not stay glued to it and it will want to move it is only good with ceramic tile |
Question: | I need 24" x 60".. Can I route the last one feet wire along the side to increase the width to 24" and keep the length to |
Answer: | You can loosen the heating element from the mesh and put along side the mat keeping it at 3" spacing. |
Question: | I am planning to install wooden floor (hardwood or laminate) in my bathroom. Can I use this system to heat wooden floors or is is for tiles only |
Answer: | The floor heating system can be installed under laminate or engineered wood floors, but not a traditional wood floor in which you are nailing down the floor because of the risk of putting a nail through the wire. Regardless of the flooring type, the floor heating system must be completely embedded in a polymer modified cement based mortar. |
Question: | I have a concrete slab that I would like to add electric floor heating and tile over it. How do I avoid moisture build up with this product |
Answer: | You need to seal your concrete floor! Theres a great product on amazon here that gets down into concrete and seals up everything--it even pushes dirt and moisture out as its sealing! and you just spray it on. Its advertised to block radon, but its all the same different of sealing concrete (will make moisture barrier, block radon, etc.) I think its just called "Radonseal" and its in a big bucket; you'll also need a 1 gallon sprayer, they run about ten bucks. I would seal it before installing this product, as you'll get a lot more out of it. You'll still want to cover it with something so it can distribute its heat (like put in thinset or something like that) it doesn't have to be fancy tile. I did mine in thinset and threw a rug over it to make a warm place for my pets while i'm at work. |
Question: | Can this be used when installing a drop-in tub to keep bath water warm |
Answer: | No, but Kohler has a tub that has a built in heating element on the portion where you lean up against. I don't know how well it would heat the water, but I bet it would be nice. |

You can have peace of mind knowing that your floor heating system is in working order by testing the resistance of the heating elements with a Digital Multi-Meter.
Each cable has a UL tag on the power lead with a resistance (Ohm) range printed on it. Set the Multi Meter to 200 Ohms (2k if the Ohm range is over 200) and test the colored power lead wires. Then test the colored wires against the copper ground wire to make sure there is no resistance on the ground.
