Answer:	My cat weighs 14.6 pounds. I only used the velcro strips and we have had the window perch for a year now. After daily use by my big cat the perch has never came loose.

Answer:	This item comes with 2 options to hold the base on the window ledge. Velcro and screws. Since I don't want to put screws into my window sills, I used the velcro option. One side goes on the base and the other on the window sill. You can also adjust the legs (they snap into a grid) on the bottom of the base. They then rest against the wall, directly under the base. the legs are made of hard plastic, as is the base. No damage has been done to my wall or to the window sill as a result of using the velcro. However, a couple of months in, and I have had to move the legs in closer to the wall which mean pulling the base off the velcro. I am not confident that the base will hold on its own anymore, and won't risk it collapsing with my cat on it. She loves laying on it, and I don't want her to mistrust it. So I actually put a chair under it and stacked a box between the seat of the chair and the bottom of the base. Not attractive, but it is holding. I don't think the velcro not holding a second time is an issue that wouldn't occur with any similar item in which this method is used. I love the lightness of the base. The fleece material that covers it can be washed, and it is a nice piece of equipment. The adjustable legs are a help. However, if you choose to use the velcro method (instead of the screws) make sure you purchase similar velcro, in the event you need to adjust the legs over time. It appears the legs need adjusted closer to the wall, over time due to the weight of your cat, how much time your cat spends on it and where on the base they position themselves. I hope this has helped.
