2 best underfloor heating mats

Underfloor heating mats are a popular heating solution for homes and buildings, providing efficient and comfortable warmth to interior spaces. These mats are typically used as part of a radiant heating system, where electric or hydronic heating elements are installed beneath the floor to evenly distribute heat throughout a room. Here are some key points about underfloor heating mats:

  1. Purpose: Underfloor heating mats are primarily designed to provide heating in residential and commercial spaces. They can be installed under various types of flooring, including tile, laminate, hardwood, and even carpet.

  2. Types:

    • Electric Mats: Electric underfloor heating mats consist of a network of heating cables woven into a mat. These cables are connected to a thermostat and a power source, and they generate heat when electricity flows through them.
    • Hydronic Mats: Hydronic mats use a system of water-filled pipes or tubing that circulates hot water to generate heat. They are connected to a central boiler or water heater.
  3. Installation: Installing underfloor heating mats typically involves laying them out on the subfloor and securing them in place. Afterward, the flooring material of choice is installed over the mats. Proper installation is crucial for efficient heat distribution.

  4. Thermostat Control: Both electric and hydronic underfloor heating mats are controlled by thermostats.Users can set their preferred temperature, and the system will work to maintain that level of warmth. Some advanced thermostats offer programmable schedules for energy-efficient heating.

  5. Energy Efficiency: Underfloor heating mats are known for their energy efficiency because they distribute heat evenly across the entire floor, eliminating cold spots. This can result in lower energy consumption compared to traditional heating methods.

  6. Comfort: Radiant floor heating provides a comfortable and consistent warmth that many people find more pleasant than forced air heating systems. It also eliminates the need for unsightly radiators or baseboard heaters.

  7. Zoning: It's possible to create heating zones within a building when using underfloor heating mats. This means different areas or rooms can have individual temperature control, enhancing energy efficiency further.

  8. Maintenance: Underfloor heating mats generally require minimal maintenance. However, it's essential to ensure the mats are not damaged during floor installation or subsequent renovations.

  9. Cost: The cost of installing underfloor heating mats can vary depending on factors such as the size of the area to be heated, the type of system (electric or hydronic), and the complexity of the installation. Electric mats are often less expensive to install but may have higher operational costs than hydronic systems.

  10. Compatibility: Underfloor heating mats can be compatible with various floor types, but it's crucial to consult with a professional installer to ensure compatibility with your specific flooring material.

Underfloor heating mats offer a comfortable and energy-efficient way to heat interior spaces, making them a popular choice in the HVAC and building supplies industry for those looking to enhance their home's heating system.

User questions & answers

Question: I need 24" x 60".. Can I route the last one feet wire along the side to increase the width to 24" and keep the length to
Answer: the 100x150mm that are Square/Rectangular Size: 4x6in. are too long for this case
Question: I am planning to install wooden floor (hardwood or laminate) in my bathroom. Can I use this system to heat wooden floors or is is for tiles only
Answer: I can just squeeze three Tiffen 77mm sized cases in this pouch but the front flap will barely close. Bower filter cases are even larger and are a real stretch to make fit.
Question: I have a concrete slab that I would like to add electric floor heating and tile over it. How do I avoid moisture build up with this product
Answer: Yes, it can, but you may find it too large for the 40.5 size and therefore not as convenient to use? I use it for 77mm filters and they fit very inside perfectly. It is very well made and I really like it.
Question: Can this be used when installing a drop-in tub to keep bath water warm
Answer: The belt loop is a sewn on nylon belt that closes with Velcro. The Velcro "pinches" the belt strap on both top and bottom -- it Velcro's to the body of the pack then a flap comes over and secures the closure from the other side. It is locked so well it is kind of difficult to get off. I am pretty satisfied with its security, BUT, I never use it on my belt. I keep it in my camera bag.

Floor Heating Mat

The Electric Floor Heating Mat consists of a mat with the cable heating elements pre-spaced 3" within the mat. Simply unroll the floor heating mat with the cold lead running up the wall to the electrical box. These heating systems are ideal for rectangular or square areas with right angles. You can manipulate the mat to fit the desired heating area by using the turning techniques shown below. The white fiberglass mesh may be cut to flip and turn the mat. The RED HEATING ELEMENT CAN NOT BE CUT, so be sure to accurately measure the space you are heating.

Programmable Thermostat with Sensor

The programmable floor sensing thermostat with floor sensor is designed to work with electric floor heating systems. It gives you the ability to accurately control the floor temperature for maximum comfort and energy savings. The thermostat features high-tech precision with straight forward, user friendly interface and contemporary design with backlit display. This floor sensing thermostat is digital, programmable, and includes the floor sensor. The thermostat is factory pre-programmed with a 7 day schedule that can be adjusted. This thermostat is 120 volts, rated for 16 amps, easily switching between F and C temperature scales.

THERMOSTAT FEATURES

  • AF mode-controls ambient temperature with floor temperature limitation
  • A mode controls the ambient air temperature
  • F mode controls the floor temperature using an external temperature sensor
  • Two temperature sensors-one in floor, one in thermostat for accuracy and security

Installation Monitor

The Installation Monitor can help give you peace of mind while installing the floor warming system. Connect the system leads to the monitor prior to installation. The monitor will "scream" a warning in the event the heating element is cut or damaged allowing you to make any necessary repairs before the heating system is embedded in mortar. If the alarm sounds, stop work and consult the operation manual. We still recommend checking the ohms of the floor heating system with a multimeter before, during, and after installation.

  • Red light and alarm indicates lead wires have come loose from the terminals or damage has occurred to the heating system
  • A white light indicates the monitor is operating
  • Can monitor up to 3 systems at one time when they are temporarily connected in series

ADHESIVE BACKED MAT

This heating mat has double sided tape to offer an adhesive backing that make installation a breeze. Simply fit the mat to your floor, then peal of the tape and adhere to the floor. This greatly reduces the installation time and gets you on your way to enjoying your heated floors.
