User questions & answers
Question: | Can I store the smaller, 1lb propane tanks on my terrace porch, possibly in a box, overall? in cold winters and hot summers |
Answer: | For maximum safety, my recommendation is to store propane containers in a weather protected location, such as garage or shed with some natural ventilation. Propane is a highly flammable liquified petroleum gas that vaporizes and expands many-fold very quickly if released to atmospheric pressure, and will form a highly explosive mixture if released in a confined space without outside ventilation. If then ignited by a small spark such as a light switch, the resulting explosion may be catastrophic. There are on-line photos of boats that have exploded from propane leaks in the confined space of a boat cabin with catastrophic results including death of occupants. The cabin top and sides have literally been blown to pieces in such cases. New, sealed bottles of 1 lb size are reasonably safe, but once opened or partly used it is best to store away from occupied spaces. Although the probability is low, the consequences of failure are unacceptable. 20 lb propane containers should never be stored indoors. Play it extra safe and store propane bottles in a garage or outdoor shed. BJG (PE, ichemical engineer, inactive, retired) |
Question: | can i hook a large propane tank to his |
Answer: | Yes, any size propane tank can be a source for it when plumbed correctly. The simplest way to go is using the F273704 hose directly off most tanks. That hose needs nothing else and goes direct from the tank to the heater. This model heater only accepts high pressure gas thru the "disposable tank" connection, so other hoses with that connection can be used as well as the "filter" F273699. The "filter" is to take out oils coming from most rubbers in hoses where the high pressure "squeezes" the oil out, but the 704 hose is made "oil-free" to avoid that issue. FYI I tried running this off a regulated low pressure source, but with it on "high" the glow was like "low" setting normally (showing a lack of gas coming thru). So if you have a low pressure source, the "Big Buddy" models have a connection point for such thru a quick disconnect using hoses like F271802 or F271803, but not this model (this one needs high pressure gas to get enough thru it's disposable tank port). |
Question: | How long with the heater run on low with a propane small cannister |
Answer: | Best guess is 4-5 hours on low. I sat in a hunting blind for 2.5 hours and the 1lb propane canister was about half empty. |
Question: | Does anyone know or understand how is it this type of propane heater can be used indoors without causing carbon dioxide poisoning |
Answer: | As soon as the weather gets cold, I put my Big Buddy Heater on a stand & use a Mr. Heater 12' hose with regulator running to a 20lb. tank in living room. I use the hose with the low pressure regulator on it & hook it up to the quick connect fitting. I have 2 20lb tanks in mint condition, and rotate them as needed. This will be my 7th winter using it. Old windows & doors let air in and I have a carbon monoxide alarm near by. Also use a leak detector to check all connections after hooking up a full tank. If it's really cold, I'll start it on high for a short time, then run it on medium & it keeps living & dining room warm. Cuts my oil bill down greatly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the temperature output be adjusted to 105F |
Answer: | Sinks have aerators to slow down the water where a tub doesn't. It sounds like one possibility is that your exceeding the GPM for this heater. Next possibility, double check an measure your actually getting at least 240v at the heater, I had an issue where my unit was only getting 235v an it was causing a similar issue where only one of the two heating elements was activating. I had it set to 125F but it was coming out 100F. It was warm and without a meter I would of thought it was working correctly until I tried filling a tub. It couldn't even get the water warm. I pulled my wires out an restripped an cut an screwed them in an it fixed my problem, now its measuring around 245v. Make sure there is no copper showing after screwing down your input wires. Now filling the tub I noticed after about 10-15 seconds the water gets too hot to touch. I set it to 135F. |
Question: | Can I use the Rinnai V65EP in Denver, Co? Temperatures during the winter can get below zero |
Answer: | No tank, so, no overflow line required. It mounts on the wall. A pan is needed if required by building code in your city. |

Question: | We have a 500sq' apt. 1 kitchen sink, 1 lav sink and tub/shower. This tankless heats water to both sinks but nothing to the tub/sh. Help |
Answer: | It’s next to the side cover on the front of the picture shown. The circle next to the cover is the hole for the 3/8 fitting and wire to go through. |
Question: | Do these tankless water heaters require an overflow line to the outside of the home or a pan like is required on normal water heaters |
Answer: | I believe it draws nearly 1800 watts ( 15 amps at 120 volts). Mine took about 6 days to arrive at a rural location in Central Wisconsin. |
Question: | what are the wiring and power requirements |
Answer: | To be honest I would not buy it. It came dented like it fell off the. Truck.. No support from ups, amazon or manufacture . I had no choice but to install it. Holding my breath.... It's up to you..... it came bare bones.... |

User questions & answers
Question: | is an external 2 stage regulator for the 30,000 BTU unit necessary |
Answer: | For propane or natural gas? If you're putting in a new propane tank yourself, then you will have to install one. If you have natural gas, the regulator should already be out by the meter. And if you ALREADY have propane, the regulator is probably outside right where the propane line comes into the house. So, if you're unsure, just check with your supplier or utility company. |
Question: | Do the unit get physically hot to the touch |
Answer: | To my surprise it does not get hot to touch Not even the top |
Question: | It says no electricity needed on product information. And in other information it says 120 volts . What gives? Does it come with a plug in attached |
Answer: | it does come with a cord to plug into a 120v wall outlet. the cord only operates the blower fan, it will work and heat without being plugged in if you want to use the fan it will need plugged in. hope that helps |
Question: | Can the unit be mounted to the ceiling facing straight down or does it have to be mounted upright to a wall |
Answer: | Upright on the wall. |

User questions & answers
Question: | which models are "condensing" units, please |
Answer: | I don’t know. But I suggest u look for a different brand. It already failed twice in less than a year and their warranty is a scam. They provide the parts which are pennies and leave out labor. |
Question: | How does it effect the water pressure, will it change |
Answer: | It does not effect my water pressure at all. I’ve had it for over a year now |
Question: | My existing water heater is located next to and shares a flue with the furnace. Can I hook the same way on this |
Answer: | Hold up there, previous answer, not so fast. It is true that you should not have both the hot water heater and furnace venting directly into the flue, combining the exhaust. However, some people see their vent pipes entering the flue (or chimney wall) and assume they are both releasing the fumes inside the chimney. In some cases, the venting pipes continue separately up the flue. Joseph, if you have two vent pipes entering your flue, there is a chance that both pipes continue separately up the flue and out the top. If that is the case, you may be able to use the existing hot water vent system. When you look at the top of your chimney, do you see two terminations coming out? |
Question: | How does very cold intake water affect performance |
Answer: | Sorry to contradict but the temperature of the water going into the water heater will definitely have an effect on the temperature of the water coming out. the water heater needs to provide enough BTUs to heat the volume of water that you need to the water temperature that you want. If the water starts off at a lower temperature it will take more BTUs to get it to the temperature you want. This unit claims to be able to provide 6.6 gallons of hot water per minute but that assumes the water is startling an average temperature. If you have a modern shower head it will only use about 2.5 GPM but if you have second shower going, a hot water faucet open or a clothes washer filling at the same time you will run out of capacity quickly. Rinnai should have tables on their website that shows the ability of the unit to heat water at a variety of starting temperatures to a range of hot water temperatures at a given flow rate. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this unit come with the connection hose and can it run off a 20# tank |
Answer: | It looks great, and we have used it. Unfortunately, it doesn't put off much heat, and we don't have very cold winters. It will be perfect for early fall weather. I am going to buy the standing patio heaters next fall to help with the colder weather. |
Question: | Will this work with a standard propane tank like used for a gas grill |
Answer: | Not recommended to use as cooking stove. Flame path is to wide and varied to be safe. It is aesthetic beauty with some warmth. |
Question: | why does it say outdoor portable, must it be vented |
Answer: | I don’t think it’s intended to be used for heat, mine is the same way. |
Question: | Are the heat settings only 75M and 200M BTU's or can this heater be adjusted between those two extremes |
Answer: | The tile around is 7 inches. Not to hot to touch. I wouldn’t leave a glass on it for very long. We had a plastic cup start to melt after sitting there a few minutes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this item be returned |
Answer: | I'm sure it can be. |
Question: | does it work in a box deer stand |
Answer: | I am sure it will. I use mine in a moving golf cart with a cover on it, and it works great. You need some ventilation though. The box deer stand shouldn't be airtight. |
Question: | Can you use a 16 oz cylinder |
Answer: | 14.1 oz or 16 oz ... “Take your pick”... [have a photo here to ‘add’ to that, but can’t seem to find a way to upload it...] |
Question: | New unit and new propane tank. Unit ignites but does not catch and stay lit, any suggestions |
Answer: | I have different model from Texsport. On mine the instructions say to turn the heat to high while holding in the red button. It would probably work on a lower setting, but would take longer to warm the bulb. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how long is the power cord |
Answer: | Yes, it can be used in a blind, tree stand, etc. |
Question: | How far away does the heat reach |
Answer: | Hi, The unit has both options, natural or propane. |
Question: | Would it be safe in a greenhouse and is there a thermostat |
Answer: | On top of the burner for cooking or covering? Or on all four sides of the burning unit as a "wind guard"? I would not recommend putting any type of glass over the top of the burning unit or using it for any type of cooking except for marshmallows. However, if you are talking about a "wind guard" (made from tempered glass) then, yes it could help as I have found that the flames tend to jump around a bit from the wind. To fit inside the lip you will need one a bit smaller than the opening (11.5 X 11.5). The smallest I have seen is a 14" X 14" one and it's a bit pricey. Good luck. https://www.amazon.com/Sunbury-Glass-Square-Accessory-Shield/dp/B087JCQ1H3/ref=sr_1_17?crid=1UQG0BBPE3PNV&dchild=1&keywords=fire+pit+glass+wind+guard+square&qid=1595452168&s=lawn-garden&sprefix=fire+pit+glass%2Clawngarden%2C237&sr=1-17 |

The DVAG11L Direct Vent Wall Heater from Ashley Hearth Products makes the perfect solution for zoned heating. The space saving direct vent furnace design mounts to an exterior wall and the adjustable vent assembly adjusts to fit walls from 4-1/2 inches to 10 inches thick. For clean, comfortable heat when and where you want it, the gas flame is completely sealed inside, away from all contact with room air. Air necessary for combustion is drawn into the chamber from outside through the vent and combustion products are vented directly to the outside. The DVAG11L direct vent propane wall furnace is designed to heat up to heat up to 375 Sq. Ft. and has an 11,000 BTU input.

Answer: | Yes you can purchase multiple packs if you like but one battery lasts 8-10 hrs |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this unit be installed through a cut out in the celing so it points down towards the floor while having the majority of the unit in the attic |
Answer: | Highly unlikely. The louvers on the front that direct air flow have maybe 45 degrees of downward angle. This just seems like a bad idea |
Question: | does it smell when running |
Answer: | not after initial burn period .Very quiet compared to my last heater ,does not smell . |
Question: | Can it run on a propane tank for a gas grill |
Answer: | This heater can run on a gas grill propane tank. Make sure the propane conversation kit has been installed and then you'll need to use a grill hose that has the regulator on it. Then you'll have to change the fitting after the regulator. |
Question: | One description says heats 700 sq ft another says 1250. Which is it |
Answer: | It heats my 900 sq. ft garage nicely. |
