13 best heated tile floors
Heated tile floors are a luxurious and energy-efficient way to add warmth and comfort to your home. These systems are typically installed beneath ceramic or stone tile flooring and provide radiant heat throughout a room. Here's what you need to know about heated tile floors:
Radiant Heating: Heated tile floors use a method known as radiant heating. Instead of heating the air in a room, they heat the floor itself, which in turn warms the objects and people in the room. This provides a more even and comfortable heat distribution.
Components: A typical heated tile floor system consists of heating cables or electric mats installed beneath the tile. Some systems use water-based tubes (hydronic heating) for heating, which are embedded in the floor and connected to a boiler.
Installation: Installing heated tile floors can be done during the construction or renovation of a space. The heating elements are installed directly under the flooring material, either on the subfloor (electric systems) or within a concrete or mortar layer (hydronic systems).
Control Systems: These systems are often controlled by thermostats that allow you to set the desired temperature for the floor. Some advanced systems can be integrated into a home's smart thermostat or controlled remotely via a smartphone app.
Energy Efficiency: Heated tile floors are generally considered energy-efficient because they provide even, direct heat to the living space. They can be programmed to turn on and off as needed, reducing energy consumption when the heat is not required.
Types of Heated Floors:
- Electric Radiant Floors: These systems use heating cables or mats with electrical resistance to generate heat. They are easier to install in existing homes and typically cost less upfront.
- Hydronic Radiant Floors: Hydronic systems circulate hot water through tubing installed in the floor. They are highly efficient and often used in new construction or major renovations.
Flooring Options: Heated tile floors work best with tile, stone, or other materials that conduct heat effectively. These flooring options retain heat and ensure an even distribution throughout the room.
Zoning: Many heated tile floor systems allow for zoning, which means you can control the heat in different areas or rooms of your home independently. This can improve energy efficiency and comfort.
Maintenance: Once installed, heated tile floors require minimal maintenance. Regular cleaning and checking for any damage to the heating elements or thermostat controls are usually sufficient.
Cost: The cost of installing heated tile floors can vary depending on the size of the area, the type of system chosen, and whether it's a new installation or a retrofit. Electric systems are often more budget-friendly than hydronic systems.
In summary, heated tile floors are a comfortable and energy-efficient way to warm your home. They use radiant heating technology to heat the floor itself, providing even warmth throughout a room. With proper installation and maintenance, they can be a luxurious addition to your home's heating system.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you install this in concrete in an outside location |
Answer: | No, its not really designed for that application. The watt density is too low to melt snow. |
Question: | Is there a negative effect if I put together more than 100 sq ft on 1 thermostat? I want to do an entire basement nearly 1000 sq ft |
Answer: | I wouldn't think a thermostat would be affected by more than one mat, as long as they are connected. Perhaps it would be of benefit to use more than 1 thermostat so you could create "zones". Fyi... this will not heat the room, only the floor. Good luck. |
Question: | Do you have installation instructions or some video posted somewhere how its set into mortar prior to tile and so on? would be very helpful. Thank you |
Answer: | Hi Geroy, we typically recommend the industry best practices for manufactured products you are using. Many of the thin set/mortar manufacturers have videos on you tube of how to apply the thin set or mortar. I think the best method is to use a self leveling product over the heating cables first before the main tile installation. This protects the heating cable from the notched trowel that is required for tile and essentially it looks like a regular floor without heating cable. Please call is if you have any questions during the installation, we have stellar tech support! |
Question: | Can you cut the end if you have too much and terminate it |
Answer: | The cable in the mesh cannot be cut, but the cable can be removed from the mesh material to make a free flowing cable to get around obstacles. These cables have a factory determined resistance and cutting the cable would change the output of the system and most likely cause a fault to occur. The nice thing about the free flowing cable systems is that you can change the spacing in order to fit pretty much any square footage desired. We try to offer as many sizes of mats as possible. |

Question: | How can you unlock the childlock |
Answer: | Sixthreezero lists their rated capacities on their website. I believe you'll see that this bike is rated over 300 pounds and some of their models up to 350 pounds. That is unusual where most other brands are rated around 220 pounds. It appears that they pride themselves on durability which is reassuring. |
Question: | How many feet of strapping is supplied with the 362-ft heating cable |
Answer: | Hi! Yes, the rack can be removed. You can unscrew it from the attachment point on the seat stay and the rear axle. |
Question: | Does the cable plug into an electrical outlet or does it need to be wired back to a breaker in the electrical panel |
Answer: | My wife is 5 feet and with the seat all the way down she is comfortable and loves this bike! |

The Heatwave free-roll cable system includes nail/screw-down strapping to aide in installation.
*Actual strapping provided may vary from picture.
Get the Right Size
Be sure to order a Heatwave system for the area to BE HEATED, not the total area. The Heatwave heating element CANNOT be cut or shortened to a fit a space.
Smaller size systems are available to fit smaller areas.
Avoid performing any cutting/drilling tasks on a finished/partially finished floor that could cause damage to heating element.
Don't Power on Until...
Do not power on the Heatwave System until it has been completely embedded in a cement-based compound (thinset/mortar/self-leveling) and that compound is completely dried.
Do not power on a Heatwave System to "test" or to dry out an embedding compound.
Completely Embed
The Heatwave cable MUST be completely embedded (unable to be seen) in a cement-based compound (thinset/mortar/self-leveling).
Both connection/junction points must also be fully embedded, the connection point at the end of the heating element and the connection point between the red heating cable and the black unheated (cold lead) cable.
Ensure that air pockets in mortar/thinset/self-leveling compound with exposed heating element, get fully filled-in.
Perform All Tests
Perform all required tests outlined in the installation manual at several stages throughout installation to ensure that heating element has not been damaged.
Failure to perform all the required tests at several stages can cause system damage to be missed which can lead to system errors, ground faults, non-functional systems, and unrepairable damage.

User questions & answers
Question: | How can you cut it |
Answer: | Hello, you can cut the mesh between the heating wires, this allows you to rotate or flip the mat when there is a need to change direction. A portion of the wires can also be removed from the mat if there is a need to get into small spaces, however you must ensure the spacing between the loose wires is the same as the mat. The wattage of the heating wire is based on the length of the cable, if the cable is cut it'll change the heaters output........please do not cut the heating wire. |
Question: | How hot does this get and can use it under a counter in the kitchen |
Answer: | Hello, the LuxHeat heating system is UL approved for floor heating only, I wouldn't recommend it for a counter top. There are other self-regulating heat-tape options that would be better suited for that application. |

Heated Floor Membrane Sheets Ditra Duo Heat Uncoupling
FUTURE-PROOF YOUR INVESTMENT
Wear and tear can’t be avoided when it comes to structures. But there’s good news - these nuisances can be kept to a minimum. Tiled floors, walls and other surfaces can last for long with the addition of underlayment membranes that prevent cracks and fractures from breaking through. Protect your precious home investment with high quality Uncoupling Membranes.

- 【Heated Floor Uncoupling Membrane】The distinguishing feature of Schluter- HEAT Floor Uncoupling Membrane is the existence of free space created by the configured channels on the underside of the matting. The free space provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate that could otherwise cause damage to the tile layer above. Thus, Heated Floor Uncoupling Membrane effectively manages moisture beneath the tile covering.
- 【Professional Wood Houses】This uncoupling underlayment serves with functions like uncoupling, waterproof, vapor management, and dense load distribution. It can functionally lengthen the service time of wooden houses.(Located in CA , United States, shipping in 1~2 business day, 3~5 day business days to arrive in your place)
- 【Simple & Quick Install】It can be installed under the floor of the bathroom & kitchen. Thinset mortar and laminate tape are recommended for a moisture sealed and crack-proof finish. Only one person can finish this job.
- 【Waterproofing】Heated Tile Floor Underlayment Roll provides reliable waterproofing in interior and exterior applications. Its polyethylene composition protects the substrate from moisture penetration, which is particularly important in today's building environment where most substrates are moisture sensitive.
- 【Prevent Fractures And Cracks 】 Tile has been successfully installed for thousands of years by incorporating an uncoupling layer, or forgiving shear interface, within the tile assembly. Our Uncoupling Membrane provides uncoupling through its open rib structure, which allows for in-plane movement that effectively neutralizes the differential movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, thus eliminating the major cause of cracking and delaminating of the tiled surface.

User questions & answers
Question: | Could I use a vinyl floating floor on top? If so do I use a leveler on top |
Answer: | Hello, yes most vinyl flooring can be used on top of this type of heating system however it is always best to check with your vinyl flooring manufacturer to see if their flooring is compatible with floor heating. The heating elements must be completely covered with a leveler to ensure there is no direct contact between the heating element and the underside of the vinyl, the leveler also ensures even heat distribution. |
Question: | Can install 2 sets of 200 sq ft in one thermostat |
Answer: | Hello, the 200sqft mat uses 2400watts, most 240volt thermostats have a 3600watt (15amp) limit. You can however add a power relay to the thermostat to increase total load availability, depending on amperage of relay you could then connect the second 200sqft mat. I'd suggest involving and electrician to check all supporting wiring is sufficient. |
Question: | can it be used in bathrooms |
Answer: | Hello, yes the LuxHeat mat is approved for wet areas (bathrooms). As with all electric floor heating systems it's important to keep the join (connection between Burgundy heating wire and black cold lead) outside of the shower. If the mat is used in the shower area it's advisable to remove 2-3 feet of cable from the mat to ensure join is 2 feet outside shower. |

Specifications: Dimensions: 14" x 21" x 1", Weight: 8 lbs, 120 watts, 120 volts, Cord Length: 9', 10". That’s why using an Indus-Tool FW cozy foot warmer can help reduce your indoor heating costs. At only 90 watts, one of these units tucked under a desk allows you to turn the building thermostat down, thereby saving you money. The warmer is less costly to use than a space heater, and safer, too, as there are no exposed heating coils or carbon monoxide emissions. It is ETL listed.--Josh Dettweiler

User questions & answers
Question: | What size is it |
Answer: | 20 1/2 inches x 13 1/2inches |
Question: | is there automatic shutoff if we leave absent miindedly leave it on when not in use |
Answer: | It does not, however, the On/Off switch is lighted so it is easy to visually tell whether it is on or not. I use mine under my computer desk on a basement tile floor. Since their switch is on the cord I do not find it convenient to use since it is difficult to reach back under the desk. I leave it turned on (I can still see the light) but I have the cord plugged in to a small power strip located on my desk top that has it's own On/Off switch that is also lighted to then control the mat. I like you tend to sometimes be forgetful about turning it off, however as someone else remarked, it doesn't get so hot that it poses a fire hazard. Having the easy access desk top switch does come in handy though. If you sit with your feet on it long enough they can begin to feel hot and it is nice to be able to just easily cyle it off for awhile. Having the lighted power strip on the desk top definitely makes an easier reminder to turn the mat off when shutting everything else down. |
Question: | What temp does this get to |
Answer: | It gets too hot for my feet, and does not have a temp control. I have mine plugged in to a lamp dimmer and usually use it at about 2/3rds of maximum (about 60 watts instead of 90). |
Question: | Can it be used on wood flooring |
Answer: | PLACEMENT For use on concrete, stone or tile floors. Do not use on carpeting or wood floors. Take care as to what type of surface you place the mat on – some delicate surfaces may discolor or crack from even this gentle heat. If you are not sure, place some cardboard under the mat for insulation. |
