4 best electric floor heats

Electric floor heating is a type of radiant heating system that is installed beneath the flooring in a building to provide warmth and comfort. This system is typically used as a primary or supplementary heating source and is known for its energy efficiency and ability to provide consistent heat throughout a room. Here's what you should know about electric floor heating:

  1. Installation: Electric floor heating systems consist of electric heating cables or mats that are installed beneath the floor covering, such as tile, stone, laminate, or engineered wood. These systems can be installed in various rooms, including bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and living areas.

  2. Radiant Heat: Electric floor heating works through radiant heat, which means it warms the objects in the room, including the floor, furniture, and people, rather than heating the air. This results in a more even and comfortable distribution of heat.

  3. Types of Systems:

    • Cable Systems: These systems involve the installation of heating cables that are woven or spaced out in a serpentine pattern beneath the floor.
    • Mat Systems: Mat systems consist of pre-spaced heating cables attached to a mesh or mat that is rolled out on the floor.
    • Film Systems: Thin electric heating films are also available and can be installed directly under certain types of flooring.
  4. Thermostats: Electric floor heating systems are typically controlled by thermostats. Some thermostats are simple, while others offer advanced features like programmable schedules and smart technology that allows remote control via a smartphone app.

  5. Energy Efficiency: Electric floor heating is known for its energy efficiency because it warms the floor and objects, which in turn radiate heat into the room. This reduces heat loss through walls and ceilings.

  6. Warmth and Comfort: Electric floor heating provides a luxurious feeling of warmth underfoot, making it especially popular in bathrooms and kitchens where cold tile or stone flooring can be uncomfortable during colder months.

  7. Zoning: Many systems offer zoning capabilities, allowing you to heat specific areas or rooms independently. This can help reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency.

  8. Installation Considerations: Electric floor heating is typically installed during a construction or renovation project. The type of flooring material, insulation, and subfloor can impact the effectiveness and efficiency of the system.

  9. Maintenance: Electric floor heating systems are generally low maintenance, with no moving parts to wear out. However, if there are issues, repairs can be more challenging as they often require accessing the flooring above the heating elements.

  10. Cost: The cost of electric floor heating varies depending on factors such as the size of the area to be heated, the type of system chosen, and the complexity of the installation. While the initial cost can be higher than traditional heating methods, the long-term energy savings and comfort benefits can offset the expense.

In summary, electric floor heating is a radiant heating system that provides efficient and comfortable warmth by heating the floor and surrounding objects. It is suitable for various types of flooring and offers the flexibility to heat specific areas or rooms. Proper installation and choice of system are crucial for optimal performance and efficiency.

An Efficient System

The Heatwave system comes with a 10-foot long floor sensor standard for optimal use of your Heatwave System. Extra compatible sensors are available on our store page.

Fully Embedded System

Heatwave can be embedded in various types of cement-like material, allowing for several floor covering options. Embedding Heatwave allows for optimal heat dispersion and gives the end-user a nice, consistently warmed floor.

Be sure to get the right size!

Heatwave comes in various sizes to accommodate differing size spaces. It is important to accurately measure the space you intend heat. Avoid placing the heating cable under vanities, within 6-inches of the toilet gasket and under other permanent fixtures in the space. It is acceptable to place Heatwave in a shower, provided that is still fully embedded in a thinset/or Mortar.

Be aware the heating cable cannot be cut or shortened in anyway.

Get the Right Size

Be sure to order a Heatwave system for the area to BE HEATED, not the total area. The Heatwave heating element CANNOT be cut or shortened to a fit a space.

Smaller size systems are available to fit smaller areas.

Avoid performing any cutting/drilling tasks on a finished/partially finished floor that could cause damage to heating element.

Don't Power on Until...

Do not power on the Heatwave System until it has been completely embedded in a cement-based compound (thinset/mortar/self-leveling) and that compound is completely dried.

Do not power on a Heatwave System to "test" or to dry out an embedding compound.

Completely Embed

The Heatwave cable MUST be completely embedded (unable to be seen) in a cement-based compound (thinset/mortar/self-leveling).

Both connection/junction points must also be fully embedded, the connection point at the end of the heating element and the connection point between the red heating cable and the black unheated (cold lead) cable.

Ensure that air pockets in mortar/thinset/self-leveling compound with exposed heating element, get fully filled-in.

Perform All Tests

Perform all required tests outlined in the installation manual at several stages throughout installation to ensure that heating element has not been damaged.

Failure to perform all the required tests at several stages can cause system damage to be missed which can lead to system errors, ground faults, non-functional systems, and unrepairable damage.

User questions & answers

Question: I need 24" x 60".. Can I route the last one feet wire along the side to increase the width to 24" and keep the length to
Answer: the 100x150mm that are Square/Rectangular Size: 4x6in. are too long for this case
Question: I am planning to install wooden floor (hardwood or laminate) in my bathroom. Can I use this system to heat wooden floors or is is for tiles only
Answer: I can just squeeze three Tiffen 77mm sized cases in this pouch but the front flap will barely close. Bower filter cases are even larger and are a real stretch to make fit.
Question: I have a concrete slab that I would like to add electric floor heating and tile over it. How do I avoid moisture build up with this product
Answer: Yes, it can, but you may find it too large for the 40.5 size and therefore not as convenient to use? I use it for 77mm filters and they fit very inside perfectly. It is very well made and I really like it.
Question: Can this be used when installing a drop-in tub to keep bath water warm
Answer: The belt loop is a sewn on nylon belt that closes with Velcro. The Velcro "pinches" the belt strap on both top and bottom -- it Velcro's to the body of the pack then a flap comes over and secures the closure from the other side. It is locked so well it is kind of difficult to get off. I am pretty satisfied with its security, BUT, I never use it on my belt. I keep it in my camera bag.

User questions & answers

Question: This system is suitable for outdoor as well? Eg: hrated driveway
Answer: Yes, it comes with a programmable thermostat and you can set different times for different days of week, and you can program twice a day - so maybe a 3 hour chunk in the morning and other chunk at night.
Question: How hot does the temperature get and does it stay the same temperature all the time
Answer: Certainly possible, I am just not sure how well it will work thru that thickness of that stone. I have heard from others that their floor heater gets too hot to use. Mine is set to 76 and it is not hot, just very comfortable to walk on during the cold ohio weather. I have not cranked it up to the high setting which I think is 82. I would think if your granite supplier is familiar with this and say it works, I would have no hesitation that this unit could not do the job.
Question: Does it need cement? can i just place it under the vinyl plank flooring
Answer: I installed mine directly to the concrete slab and poured a self leveling compound over the top. It works just fine. I think the larger concrete slab acts as a giant heat sink and maybe doesn’t get as warm as it might otherwise and/or takes a little longer to heat up. That said, it works great and gets plenty warm where we actually laid it... in front of the sinks and in front of the shower. If you step off that area you can tell an immediate difference and I wish we’d put down a little more than we did.
Question: How hot does this get and can use it under a counter in the kitchen
Answer: Sure, cut mesh and reposition the heating wire the way you need. http://www.heattechproducts.com/how-to-install-radiant-floor-heating-mats
Question: hi, can you set a timer for it to come on early..like an hour before you usually wake up so that its nice and toasty
Answer: No it is not. But has a long cord.
Question: I want to install this under a granite island counter top do you think this is possible
Answer: No battery needed - it is USB power with built in recharging battery
Question: Can this product be installed directly on concrete
Answer: Not exactly sure about the Xbox 1, but we did not need an adapter for our Xbox 1s.
Question: Can the mat be cut to fit the space
Answer: It's finicky with our Switch. Doesn't work at all with our PS4.
