Answer:	What size filter are you looking for? This listing has 3 choices - both of the choices that have a description of mpr 1550 are actually called allergen reduction filters & clearly state that they are mpr 1550. I use one of these sizes & always get the 1550. If you need 16X25X4 it's called allergen defense filter mpr 1000. I couldn't find any other statement in the description that listed the mpr - so to me it's unclear. You might want to contact amazon customer support to verify the mpr, but also, the product can be returned if it's not what you were looking for.

Answer:	The one I purchased was 20x25x4. If you only have option for 1 inch thick, then it sounds like they are out of the 4 inch version.
Question:	Never had an air conditioner or furnace so I have a rather silly question. How can I tell when the filter needs changing - dirty on the backside
Answer:	When it gets dirty on the air intake side. Don't wait for it to get caked with dust as this will cut down on air flow and make your furnace/air conditioner work harder to reach your desired temperature. Filter vendors often recommend changing 4 times per year, but your mileage may vary depending on how much you heat and cool and the cleanliness of the air being moved. I change about 3 times per year, but I could go to twice. Do you change your car filter? How dirty does that get? Be sure the actual size of the filter is correct for your blower. Filtrete nominal sizes and actual sizes differ. I got stuck with 4 filters I can not use. I bought the size 16x25x4, but the end of the filter has the actual size: 16 x 24 1/2 x 4 1/2. the 4 1/2" dimension is too large to fit.

Answer:	Twice per year or every 6 months. We were told to replace filters with our Autumn and Spring system checks. That's not to say we haven't used them just fine for an entire year... if you don't have pets or a lot of construction in the area or dust they'll probably do okay do for a year. I prefer to change them at 6 months, my husband prefers annually.
Question:	What's the difference between Merv 8 and Merv 12? Which one is better and why
Answer:	Good morning. A MERV 12 picks up more particulate than a MERV 8 but can also place more restriction on your system. A MERV 8 is a commonly used household MERV and gets most household particulate. The 12 will collect a finer particulate as well as pet dander, tobacco smoke, auto emissions, firewood smoke, and fine dust. It just depends on your particular needs. However, if your system is older a 12 may place too much air restriction.

Answer:	I am not sure I fully understand your question. When it comes to merv rating you need to balance your filter needs/wants vs efficiency. The higher the merv the smaller the particles filtered, but the higher your power use as your air handler has to work harder to pull through the finer filter. According to the USGBC LEED standards, a minimum of merv 13 must be used for all recirculated air.Merv 6 = 300 mprMerv 8 = 600 mprMerv 11 = 1000-1200 mpr (this filter)Merv 13 = 1500-1900 mpr.I chose this filter because it seemed like a reasonable compromise of filtration, efficiency and cost.I hope this helps. :)

It stands for; "Minimum Efficiency Rating Value" There are 1-16 ratings with "1" being the worst and " 16" of course being the best! I tend to get the MERV11 in a 4" thick pleated filter because it traps everything I'm most worried about like dust, mites, pet dander, bacterias, allergic pollen and when my daughter cooks or burns something in the oven, kitchen smoke! Keeping all that "sheet" out of the distribution process of hot/cold air being deposited throughout the many registers in my house not only protects my family, but it helps to prolong the system and house by keeping it all clean and dust free!! Answer:	We no longer make the Ionic Silver Stick and it has been replaced by the Hydro Cell. Furthermore, the Aqua Pro has activated carbon built into the filter so you would not need both. You could however use both for more protection and purifying of your water. Hope that helps!

Answer:	No, I have never had a motor fail in my home, and I've used a high MERV filter for several years. I had a starting capacitor fail, but I think that was a faulty cap. (capacitor plague), and not over heating due to poor airflow. A clean higher MERV filter is probably going to allow more air flow than a dirty low MERV filter. Closed up registers and dirty trunking are also going to contribute.

It is measured by inches of Water Column (W.C.) at 300 feet per minute (FPM). Clean/new filters are not restrictive to air flow. Filters will become restrictive if they are not changed when needed. A filter's life is actually determined by the user's living conditions and will vary for every user. Generally speaking, we recommend changing filters approximately every 3 mo nths. To determine when the filter needs to be change, we suggest holding it up to the light. When you cannot see light through the filter, it is ready to be changed, even if it is before 3 months. If you are concerned about airflow, you might want to use the filter with a lower pressure drop. If you have a high velocity furnace with high fan speed, you may need to change the filters more frequently, every 1.5 to 2 months.

Answer:	It does matter which way the filter is installed. All of our filters have arrows indicating the direction of air flow. The wire mesh side is the side that the air flows and exits from to help support the media.

Question:	Why are filters with carbon cheaper than without
Answer:	Not sure where you found activated carbon filters in residential sizes that were 'cheaper'?? I use the MERV13 (without carbon) and can get 4 - 20x25x2 for $56. With carbon is higher. In any case, carbon filters will have the very same pleated surfaces, and will trap just as much dust and hair as non-carbon, and BOTH types will typically last 60-90 days. The 'activated carbon' ones are better at odor trapping, but even that doesn't last till the end of the filter (Carbon is porous and fills up rapidly as stuff flows over it)
