Answer:	I am not sure I fully understand your question. When it comes to merv rating you need to balance your filter needs/wants vs efficiency. The higher the merv the smaller the particles filtered, but the higher your power use as your air handler has to work harder to pull through the finer filter. According to the USGBC LEED standards, a minimum of merv 13 must be used for all recirculated air.Merv 6 = 300 mprMerv 8 = 600 mprMerv 11 = 1000-1200 mpr (this filter)Merv 13 = 1500-1900 mpr.I chose this filter because it seemed like a reasonable compromise of filtration, efficiency and cost.I hope this helps. :)

Answer:	The N95 masks are the equivalent to a MERV 16. Our MERV 13 filters are made with a 100% synthetic filter media with a wire backing glued in a cardboard frame. There are no harmful materials in the MERV 13 media itself. If you use the media it will not filter as small of a partical as the N95 but it help filter out 1.0–0.3 μm particle size. These filters can filter bacteria, droplet nuclei (sneeze), cooking oil, most smoke and insecticide dust, most face powder, and most paint pigments.

Answer:	...Griffen, he was the original o.g, the triple diple o.g, the double o. capital .g, the Ompa Oprah talk show host of his time! HEEEERRRRRRREEEEE'SSSSS...MERV!! I'm just kidding! It stands for; "Minimum Efficiency Rating Value" There are 1-16 ratings with "1" being the worst and " 16" of course being the best! I tend to get the MERV11 in a 4" thick pleated filter because it traps everything I'm most worried about like dust, mites, pet dander, bacterias, allergic pollen and when my daughter cooks or burns something in the oven, kitchen smoke! Keeping all that "sheet" out of the distribution process of hot/cold air being deposited throughout the many registers in my house not only protects my family, but it helps to prolong the system and house by keeping it all clean and dust free!! Don't skimp when it comes to selecting that MERV rated filter or you may end up replacing more than just the filter. Read the specs on the system you own to be sure you're using the correct size filter and change it every six months or less depending on your environment.

Answer:	Any increase in "merv" rating reduces the air flow. HVAC systems have a tolerance level. You should work within that level. You have to gage via technical measurement or manufacturer specifications. Everything is a compromise. More filtration is less flow. No filtration highest flow. Choose your poison and gauge your cost benefit. You want lots of dirty air or just enough clean filtered air.

Answer:	The filter is smaller than 16x25x4...it says so right on the filter. It’s a very loose fit. And the filter is very cheaply made.
Question:	will MERV 11 restrict the air flow back thru the return air duct and cause a problem with my air condtioning unit
Answer:	Don't listen to these people. You should not put anything above a merv 2 on your return air duct. If in doubt contact the company that makes your unit and ask them and they'll probably tell you the same. My dad's been in the business of heating and air since before I was born and he's always hated these filters and said a heating and air unit is NOT an air filter for a house and shouldn't be used as one. Using this restricts the air flow, makes the thing work harder and thus reduces the efficiency and burns it out faster. If you want to filter your air i sounds funny but get a box fan and get a size 20x20x1 air filter and tape it or bungee strap it to the back of the fan and it'll filter your air. If you burn up a $15 fan it's no big deal compared to an expensive unit.

This type is very good and seem to last longer that the cheap blue no pleated filters.I am pleased with mine and only use this type in my unit that works 12 months ..AC and then Heat. Just make sure the size is correct for your unit.

Answer:	You only have less than a quarter of an inch all the way around the receiving compartment. You can probably scrunch it up a little bit but it might fit snug enoght but seal properly. Recommend you get the right size otherwise you'll have long term effects.

Microparticle Performance Rating, or MPR for short, is a filter rating system developed by 3M to rate a filters ability to capture the smallest airborne particles. The higher the MPR rating the better the filters ability to capture particles from the air. This system helps in comparing 3M filters, but is not directly comparable to the MERV rating system. With merv 8 you should use mpr 600.
