Answer:	Watts are the result of multiplying the operating voltage times the draw max current. (W = E x I). Your operating voltage on an AC fan is 120 volts. The operating current is posted on the manufacturer's label on the fan. Multiply one by the other and you get your watts. On a DC system like solar or batteries the voltage is the max output produced and the current (I) is also on the label.

Question:	so without the thermostat, does this fan run all the time while it is light out
Answer:	Yes, it runs continuously when it receives light. You may purchase a Broan thermoswitch which will shut it off if the temp is less than 50 deg F (which means it'll basicaly run all the time). I purchased the thermoswitch for the Natural Light brand because it turns on at 80 and off at 70 (added benefit: it's cheaper). For my climate in Los Angeles, that range is preferable (I would think the same in other climates, too). To install, just clip off the black male spade connector of the Broan and replace it with a female and reconnect with the switch in series. The wiring that comes with the switch is not used. It's easy and it works!
Question:	Can this fan sustain hurricane winds
Answer:	Our unit is located on the Ocean and we have had storms but no hurricanes since it was installed.
Question:	Can this be installed on a Terracotta tiled roof
Answer:	Only if the tiles are relatively flat. Broan's website indicates the fan is designed for a "shingled" roof. Not much clearance between the base and the fan housing, but it woks great.
Question:	Will these keep the dampness out of a shed? Shed is only 140 square feet

Question:	Is it thermostatically controlled
Answer:	If you mean is it easy to see the positive & negative wires going directly into the fan, cut & splice your own switch in, bypassing thermostat.... yes it is easy to do.
Question:	is the fan on the roof line or deeper
Answer:	I think sealed, I don't remember any zerk fittings or oil holes to use. Mine has been in my house two years and there are no problems. I by passed the thermocouple and have it on a switch. I put one in my daughters house and used the thermocouple because she and her husband are gone quite a bit and not at home to turn it on. No issues after 18 months. Quiet because I used rubber padding between the fan and board it is connected to. It keep our upstairs a lot cooler. No issues with bearings yet, and I don't really expect any.
Question:	Can this be install to an indoor patio? I have a room where the ceiling is essentially a shingled roof with no insulation or space inbetween
Answer:	The thermostat is inside the fan--look at the picture, it is the little box in the lower left corner where the electrical wire is running into the fan. You can take the thermostat out as it is only attached with a couple of screws. Mounting it a few feet away from the fan is easily doable.

Answer:	The instructions mention to place this a certain distance from the ridge vents, so it acknowledges them and seems to indicate it is compatible

Question:	Does this unit run only when there is sunlight striking it or is there a storage battery for the evening. Here in Phoenix an attic is hot after dark
Answer:	It's designed to run ONLY while the sun is charging it. However, you can buy a 110V hybrid adapter (about $80), which easily connects to the fan. It works at night, as long as the attic is 80 degrees (or more), and runs on your home's electricity. Then, when the sun returns, it automatically converts back to solar power. I bought this unit, and had it installed simultaneously, because my attic also stays hot long into the night. Nice, right? :)

Answer:	Fairly quiet. I have to get within a few feet of it to be able to hear it. Then it is just a normal hum of a fan.

Answer:	Depends on how deep the gap between the walls are. If you have a crawl space i between the wall. It will not work and you will need a vent extension/ ducting to fit the fan. If the gap is less than 4 inches. You it will work. Also you will have to drill out the hole for the fan. I would suggest having a profesional install the fan.

Answer:	The only difference is the shape on the 20 W fans. The larger fans in the builder series include a 110 V hybrid adapter which will allow the fan to run at night. Thank you for the question.

Answer:	As long as the sun is shining on the small panels it working. I’ve installed two in the roof of our RV & they seem to keep the moisture out

Answer:	It doesn't "blow air" as much as it gently moves air. It's more passive ventilation than an active blower.
Question:	What keeps water or rain from entering your interior
Answer:	There is a rubber seal bike gasket that goes around the outside of the ventilator. When you tighten down the screws it creates a seal. If you wanted to you could put some silicone on this gasket for peace of mind. I did not use silicone and I've had no leaks.
Question:	What is diameter of the hole needed
Answer:	The hole needs to be about 4 3/4 inches to mount.

Answer:	I did not measure the temperature difference, but it did not seem to make a difference. The fan does run quite strong so I suspect that it does pull heat out of the attic (that is, after you reverse the fan in its shroud so that it blows outward). However, I was very disappointed, after the fan motor completely died after two years.
Question:	Can this get wet? Weatherproof
Answer:	I mounted it in the roof gable vent and covered it with the slotted vent cover, so it doesn't get wet unless the rain is horizontal. Anyway, the motor burned out after two years. I don't recommend this product. I'm going to remove it and install a hard-wired electric attic vent fan.
Question:	Can someone recommend a thermostat to install with this fan
Answer:	It does not have a place to plug in for a thermostat. I purchased a thermostat and did not use it. I have installed others that have a place to just plug a thermostat in. I would search for one of those fans.

Answer:	Yes, I had to build a frame to hold mine exactly in the center where I wanted it. I cut plywood to nail and fill gaps to prevent pollen and debris from flying in through the sides since it only runs on full sun. One cloud and it turns off!😕 I will eventually switch it to the other side of attic to just circulate the air. Will replace it with a fan that runs 24/7 to prevent pollen and dust coming into attic.
Question:	can it be used in a greenhouse
Answer:	I'm using it in a solar wood kiln, I'm assuming that the conditions are similar enough to say yes. Had a sunny but frigid day with a high of 5 degrees, the fan worked fine. The temperature inside the kiln in summer reached above 110 degrees, it still worked well. Humidity and temperature don't seem to affect the performance of the fan whatsoever.

Answer:	The brackets aren’t exactly as shown. The side w/ the long oval holes for adjustment are just regular holes that don’t line up with the holes on the panel. And edges of the brackets will stick out when connected to each other, so it won’t sit flush to mounting surface after connected at the desired angles. You will need to drill holes and possibly trim for a good mount. Simple as long as you have the tools to do so. Other than that product works fine, so far.

HOW MANY FANS SHOULD I ORDER FOR MY ROOF?

We recommend one for every 600 sf of roof area. A typical home (1200sf) would take 3-5 vents. It is crucial that a home's attic is ventilated uniformly across the entire attic space. That is why most homes have numerous passive vents or ridge venting installed. The idea is that cool air will come in from the eave's soffit vents and run along the entire roof deck to escape at the top through the passive vents. This uniform air movement helps keep your roof's deck (the plywood, the trusses, and the rafters) dry and moisture free. It also helps keep your insulation's r-value from decreasing due to condensation dripping down from the roof deck.

Does it have a turn off switch so I can switch it off during the winter months?

There is no need to ever turn these fans off because you want air movement as much as possible throughout the day ALL YEAR LONG. During the winter months, you want to protect your insulation’s R-Value (its loftiness) as much as possible. Proper ventilation, especially during the winter months where condensation will form on the underside of your roof deck, is very critical as well.

Just remember, the ideal temperature inside your attic is the same ambient temperature as outside your home. If your attic space is the same temperature as the outside, no condensation will form. That’s why a soda can doesn’t form condensation when it is inside your fridge. It’s when you bring it out and there is a difference in temperature that the soda can starts to sweat. Proper ventilation in your attic space will help mitigate condensation from forming in your attic and it will help keep your insulation’s loftiness and effectiveness at its highest performance.

Does it have a thermostat?

There is absolutely no reason to add a thermostat to our vent fans. You want them working any time the sun hits the solar panel! Remember, you want the temperature inside your attic to match the outside temperature. So your vents need to be working 24/7.

Why are metal vents better?

As you read above, your roof can get upward of 190 degrees on the surface. Metal vents will last a lifetime on a roof. The same cannot be said about plastic vents. As a roofer, it is never surprising when we see cracked and brittle plastic vents on a roof. We have always used metal vents on all of our roofing jobs. So when Solar Blaster was born, there was no question about using the same metal vents we’d been installing on roofs for over a quarter century as the basis for our solar solution.

What size is the fan?

The fan itself is NOT large (we have the specs listed on this page). Most of our vents have 50 square inches of open venting. Our fans are intentionally small so they do NOT cover much space inside the vent’s shaft as we still need these hybrid passive vents to do their job when the sun isn’t shining.

How many vents does my home need?

There a lot of roof vent calculators out there on the web (including our website) where you can plug in your attic volume to calculate the proper number of vents. Most building codes and shingle manufacturers also list their requirements. For simplicity sake, we recommend one of our vents every 6-8 feet along your ridge (with enough intake vents as well — they are a crucial part of this system of ventilation).
