9 best heating floorings
Heated flooring, also known as radiant floor heating, is a modern and energy-efficient way to provide warmth to indoor spaces. It involves the installation of heating elements beneath the floor's surface to distribute heat evenly throughout a room. Here's what you need to know about heating flooring:
Types of Heating Flooring:
- Hydronic Radiant Heating: This system uses heated water that circulates through pipes or tubes installed under the floor. It's often more efficient but requires a boiler or water heater.
- Electric Radiant Heating: Electric cables or mats are installed under the floor and generate heat when electricity passes through them. It's easier to install and well-suited for smaller areas.
Even Heat Distribution: Radiant floor heating provides consistent and even heating across the entire floor, eliminating cold spots commonly found with traditional forced-air systems.
Energy Efficiency: Radiant floor heating is known for its energy efficiency because it heats the objects in a room, including people, rather than just the air. This often results in lower energy consumption and reduced heating costs.
Compatibility: It can be installed under various types of flooring, including tile, stone, hardwood, laminate, and even carpet (although carpet may reduce efficiency).
Zoning: Radiant floor heating systems can be divided into zones, allowing you to control the temperature in different areas of your home independently.
Health Benefits: Unlike forced-air systems, radiant floor heating doesn't circulate allergens like dust and pollen, which can lead to improved indoor air quality.
Installation: The installation process involves embedding the heating elements under the flooring material. This can be done during new construction or as part of a renovation project. The complexity and cost of installation can vary depending on the type of system and the flooring material.
Warmth and Comfort: Radiant floor heating provides a comfortable and cozy atmosphere, as it warms the entire floor surface.Walking on a warm floor during the colder months is a pleasant experience.
Maintenance: Radiant floor heating systems are generally low-maintenance. Once installed correctly, they typically require minimal upkeep.
Cost: The cost of radiant floor heating can vary based on factors like the type of system, the size of the area to be heated, and the flooring material. While the initial installation cost may be higher than traditional heating systems, the long-term energy savings can offset this expense.
Heated flooring is a popular choice for homeowners seeking a comfortable and energy-efficient heating solution. It offers the advantage of even heat distribution and can be installed under a variety of flooring materials, making it a versatile option for both new construction and home renovations.

User questions & answers
Question: | does this increase the room temperature |
Answer: | Yes, it comes with a programmable thermostat and you can set different times for different days of week, and you can program twice a day - so maybe a 3 hour chunk in the morning and other chunk at night. |
Question: | Can you install this in concrete in an outside location |
Answer: | Certainly possible, I am just not sure how well it will work thru that thickness of that stone. I have heard from others that their floor heater gets too hot to use. Mine is set to 76 and it is not hot, just very comfortable to walk on during the cold ohio weather. I have not cranked it up to the high setting which I think is 82. I would think if your granite supplier is familiar with this and say it works, I would have no hesitation that this unit could not do the job. |
Question: | Do you have installation instructions or some video posted somewhere how its set into mortar prior to tile and so on? would be very helpful. Thank you |
Answer: | I installed mine directly to the concrete slab and poured a self leveling compound over the top. It works just fine. I think the larger concrete slab acts as a giant heat sink and maybe doesn’t get as warm as it might otherwise and/or takes a little longer to heat up. That said, it works great and gets plenty warm where we actually laid it... in front of the sinks and in front of the shower. If you step off that area you can tell an immediate difference and I wish we’d put down a little more than we did. |
Question: | Can you cut the end if you have too much and terminate it |
Answer: | Sure, cut mesh and reposition the heating wire the way you need. http://www.heattechproducts.com/how-to-install-radiant-floor-heating-mats |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this under luxury vinyl tile? The lifeproof type with underlayment backing |
Answer: | Thinset will not bond well to certain types of tiles. You will need to consult with a thinset manufacturer to make sure you can get a good bond between the tile and membrane. |
Question: | Can this be used under ceramic tile |
Answer: | The membrane goes directly onto the sub-floor and then heating wire is snapped in between the pillars of the membrane. A heating mat is a different product that does not work with membrane like this. For this you need loose wire that will snap into it. |
Question: | are these CSA approved?\ |
Answer: | Heating element wire sold separately. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how many rolls of wire can one thermostat control? I want to install this on the main floor of my house under a new laminate wood plank flooring |
Answer: | yes, when you open the hot water in the bath or kitchen, the water heater automatically starts to heat the water. no need to turn it on.. and it just work when you need hot water |
Question: | can the thermostat be programmed to turn on and off |
Answer: | AC adapter would be a good upgrade. Why? After two weeks the burner stopped igniting. The spark ignighters work but burner will not light. I pulled panel to go through wires. No gas was going through gas valve solenoid. The reason is D size batteries only lasted two weeks. I changed batteries and it works great again. |
Question: | My warranty sheet/card is missing in the box, what should i do? is 25yrs warranty still valid? how do i file it |
Answer: | I would not unless you hook vent for exhaust to outside |
Question: | How many amps |
Answer: | Hello. At this time, the iHeat AHS11-D is not available on Amazon. Feel free to ask us any other questions. GadgetsGo is an Authorized iHeat Distributor. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo |

SunTouch WarmWire cables contain an electric heating wire to provide underfloor heat in bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, and other areas and are an affordable alternative to radiant heated mats. Approved for installation in shower applications where permitted. The durable, constant-diameter wire is easily secured at 2.5 in., 3 in., or 3.5 in. intervals with CableStrap. Controlled by a SunStat floor sensing thermostat (sold separately). WarmWire is available in various lengths with voltage options of 120 or 240VAC.
WarmWire Installation
WarmWire is the most flexible choice for irregularly-shaped or curved rooms and stairs. For typical installations, WarmWire is spaced at 3 inches on center. For areas with high heat loss, the spacing can be lowered to 2.5 inches for added warmth. In hallways and rooms that are well insulated, spacing can be increased to 3.5 inches on center. Controlling the level of warmth is easily accomplished with a connected SunStat Thermostat.

Answer: | 5 inches. |
Question: | how many can i hook together to 1 thermostate? and which thermostate you recommand |
Answer: | Yes, it conforms to all ASTM F876, ASTM F877, CSA B137.5 standards. |
Question: | How many btu per sq foot |
Answer: | Yes as the description says it is PEX for radiant heat systems. It also says it has an oxygen barrier which most low mass boilers require to minimize corrosion and rust. I hope the resin the pipe is made from is of good quality and will stand the test of time. |
Question: | Can I cut the wire off 4’ at the end because it’s more than needed |
Answer: | Hello, yes the LuxHeat mat can be used on shower floors, however as with most electric heating systems it is required that the splice (the connection between the cold lead and the heating element), be outside of the shower itself. This can easily be achieved by laying a small section of the mat outside the shower, or by removing a loop of wire from the mat, thus allowing the splice to be 2-3 feet outside the shower base. |
Question: | What is the high temperature it can generate |
