I've found that the volleyball net, at its lowest setting, is a bit high to play badminton. If you're looking to have a simple barrier and players to power hit high/long for fun, then this works. If you are looking for something that's more like a gym's version, an outdoor badminton net works better for the "slam shots", backhands, etc. The boundary line area is smaller and can accomodate 1-3 people per side , whereas a volleyball net can accomodate 1-6 people per side.
