10 best catching mitts
Catching mitts, also known as catcher's mitts or catcher's gloves, are essential pieces of equipment used by players in baseball and softball, particularly by catchers. These mitts are designed for specific roles and have unique characteristics:
Purpose: Catching mitts are designed to help catchers securely receive and control pitches from the pitcher. They are crucial for catching high-speed throws and pitches and play a vital role in defensive plays behind the plate.
Design: Catching mitts have a distinct design compared to other fielding gloves in baseball or softball. They are typically larger, more heavily padded, and have a deeper pocket. This design helps catchers handle the fast and unpredictable movement of pitches.
Size and Shape: Catcher's mitts are larger and rounder than other gloves used in the field. They are designed to provide a bigger target for pitchers and make it easier to catch and control pitches.
Materials: These mitts are usually made from high-quality leather, which is durable and provides a good grip on the ball. The padding inside the mitt is strategically placed to absorb the impact of pitches.
Webbing: Catcher's mitts have closed webbing, which means there is a solid piece of leather or synthetic material connecting the thumb to the index finger. This design helps secure the ball when catching.
Customization: Catchers often personalize their mitts by adding extra padding or modifying the webbing to suit their preferences. The fit of the mitt is crucial for comfort and performance.
Breaking In: Like other gloves, catcher's mitts need to be properly broken in to become more flexible and easier to catch with. This process involves repeatedly catching balls in the mitt, using oil or conditioner to soften the leather, and forming the pocket to the desired shape.
Care: Proper care and maintenance of catcher's mitts are essential to maintain their quality and longevity. This includes keeping them clean, dry, and properly conditioned to ensure the leather remains supple.
Importance: Catcher's mitts are one of the most critical pieces of equipment for a baseball or softball catcher. Their design and padding help protect the catcher's hand, and their ability to securely catch and control pitches is crucial for the success of the team.
In summary, catching mitts are specialized gloves used by catchers in baseball and softball to catch, control, and receive pitches from the pitcher. Their unique design, size, and padding make them an essential tool for catchers, allowing them to handle the demands of catching high-speed pitches effectively while also providing protection for their hand. Proper care and personalization are key to maximizing the performance and longevity of a catcher's mitt.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between the mizuno gxc105 and the mizuno gxc100? other than color and price, i can't find any discernible difference |
Answer: | Yes it will |
Question: | Is this a good glove for a 9 going on 10 year old |
Answer: | If your hand is not too big (12inch over), this glove would be good for adults. |
Question: | is this glove all leather |
Answer: | Hand orientation refers to THROWING. Right = RH thrower & Left = LH thrower. Thanks! |
Question: | Why is left hand throw more money |
Answer: | This mitt should fit a 17yr old hand, but there is limited padding in the glove. High school pitchers can throw pretty hard, I don't think this mitt can handle that speed in game situations. Your hand will be hurting by the end of the game. I use it with my 11yr so he can practice pitching. It is a nice mitt that breaks in pretty fast. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a lot of padding in the pocket |
Answer: | It’s a very well made youth catchers mitt with high quality leather. Should be able to hold withstand pitching up to 70 mph no problem. Has a great web design to funnel ball into pocket. My son used his up from 8u through 12u travel ball until his hand grew too large. Glove still in great shape. I recommend it. |
Question: | Will this fit and be easy enough to use for an average sized 8 year old boy |
Answer: | The Akadema Prodigy catcher's mitt would be an ideal fit for an 8 year old player, and will be pretty game ready on arrival with little break in needed. |
Question: | Wrist is too large for my son. Can I add holes in the wrist strap area to tighten |
Answer: | I believe the glove comes set with the largest wrist size holes in use and you should be able to untie and tighten using the smaller holes. If that is still too large, you could get a leather punch and make your own holes to try to tighten it even more. I'm surprised that this is a problem though, I've used this glove for a Little League Minor team for 2 years and most complain it is too tight in the wrist. |
Question: | What age range would this mitt fit comfortably on |
Answer: | I would say 8 9 10. 32" my son is a big 9 yr old and it fits great. I can wear it to play catch and i am in my 40s. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this glove be able catch 90+mph pitches |
Answer: | Using 80’ of 1” hose with the FR711VA will drop the flow rate to around 7 – 8 GPM. If you increase the hose diameter to 1.25" - 80’ of 1.25” hose, the flow rate would be around 12 GPM. If you go with 80’ of 1.5” hose, the flow rate will be around 18 GPM. Hope this helps |
Question: | Will it be good for a 11 year old bout to be 12 that is using a 32.5 wilison a |
Answer: | The pump is rated for 20GPM out of the meter, not the nozzle. After installing a filter, putting on a hose and nozzle you are looking to drop approximately 6GPM to end up giving you approximately 12-14GPM total. |
Question: | Is this glove |
Answer: | does a suction pipe come with the pump when bought, we have a 45'' dia. tank |
Question: | What is the warranty for the glove |
Answer: | Yes, and it is a very reliable pump. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it designed with a smaller hand for women or can it take a mans hand |
Answer: | This is a pro glove. 90 mph is not a problem |
Question: | Is this broken in |
Answer: | It would be very similar, but from experience the break in time is much longer than almost every catching glove we’ve had. The All Star is very tough to use in the beginning. My son had that exact All Star model catching glove at 12 years old and it lasted one solid travel ball season (10 months). After awhile the pocket started to get out of shape and a bit floppy. It basically felt like the glove went from impossible to use, to floppy, with barely any great months! If I was a pro and I got these for free than they would be amazing...but not for a kid whose parents pay close to $400 per glove.I feel that the All Star does not last as long as the Wilson 2000 or the Marucci pro series....The All Star is now relegated to being a floppy-ish back up to a Marucci Custom Pro model from 3 years ago...my son also uses a Marucci HTG series 32.5 for training and that would have been the perfect size for a 12 year old....in other words, I’d never buy an All Star again and I feel that it’s too difficult for a 12 year old to use. My son also uses a Wilson A2k 11.5 when pitching, so we’re completely biased toward Wilson gloves too. |
Question: | I purchased this glove for my daughter and one of the laces literally blew out and a piece of the webbing broke. How do I warranty it out |
Answer: | Yes, this All Star CM3000SBT Catchers Mitt has a 33.5" length.Thanks,JustBallGloves |
Question: | Why does it take so long to ship |
Answer: | JustBallGloves features a 100 day love your glove policy. |
