2 best baseball mitts
Baseball mitts, also commonly referred to as gloves, are a crucial piece of equipment used by baseball players, particularly fielders, to catch and field the baseball effectively. There are different types of baseball mitts designed for various positions and playing styles. Here's what you need to know about baseball mitts:
Infielder's Mitts: Infielders, such as shortstops and second basemen, typically use smaller gloves with shallower pockets. These mitts allow for quick ball transfer, facilitating swift fielding and precise throws. Infielder's mitts are designed for agility and responsiveness.
Outfielder's Mitts: Outfielders use larger gloves with deeper pockets to catch fly balls and cover more ground in the outfield. The increased size of these mitts helps outfielders secure high-flying balls and make long throws. Outfielder's mitts offer improved reach and control.
First Baseman's Mitts: First basemen use mitts with a unique design. They have a scooped shape, making it easier to pick low throws and maintain contact with the base. First baseman's mitts are often larger to maximize the catching area.
Catcher's Mitts: Catcher's mitts, also known as catcher's gloves or mittens, are heavily padded and have a circular shape. They are designed to catch fast pitches and provide extra protection for the hand against high-velocity pitches. The catcher's mitt is essential for receiving pitches and making throws to bases.
Material: Baseball mitts are typically made from leather, although some lower-cost options may use synthetic materials. High-quality leather mitts are preferred for their durability, flexibility, and ability to break in over time for a custom fit.
Webbing: The webbing of a baseball mitt refers to the pattern of leather or lacing between the thumb and fingers. Different web designs offer advantages for specific positions and player preferences. For example, closed webs provide added support for pitchers, while open webs allow for quick ball visibility.
Sizing: Baseball mitts come in various sizes, typically measured in inches. The size corresponds to the length from the tip of the index finger to the heel of the mitt. Players select mitt sizes based on their position and personal comfort.
Break-In Process: New mitts often require a break-in process to soften the leather and mold it to the player's hand. This involves conditioning the mitt, forming the pocket, and catching balls repeatedly to make the mitt more pliable and comfortable.
Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance of baseball mitts are essential to extend their lifespan. This includes keeping the mitt clean, storing it in a cool, dry place, and occasionally applying leather conditioner to keep the leather supple.
Customization: Some players opt for custom-made mitts, allowing them to choose specific colors, webbing patterns, and personalization options to match their preferences and style.
Baseball mitts are essential tools for fielders, allowing them to make crucial plays in the game. Selecting the right mitt that suits one's position and playing style is vital for optimal performance on the baseball field.

User questions & answers
Question: | How do I know what size mitt to get? I will be playing by softball |
Answer: | Catching is not the issue. You can learn to catch with either hand. You want to the glove to go on the non-throwing hand. So instead of having them catch a ball, have them throw a ball to you. What ever hand they throw with, the glove will go on the other hand. That being said, you child will probably need the right hand throw glove which goes on the left hand. |
Question: | How do I know if this will fit my husband's hand |
Answer: | It is for tball. It fits our 4, 5 and 7 year old kids well. I don't know the measurements. It's a nice glove. Target has them too if you want to check them out there. |
Question: | Is This Oven Safe |
Answer: | I ordered both left and right hand throw and got the same thing. Two gloves one with a barcode over the original label, that are for the left hand (so you throw with right). Grrrr from my lefty! |
Question: | Could this glove be used in tennis |
Answer: | Yes |
