14 best bareback pads
Bareback pads are a type of saddle accessory used in equestrian sports and horseback riding. These pads are designed to provide a cushioned and secure seat for riders when riding a horse without a traditional saddle. Here are some key points about bareback pads:
Purpose: Bareback pads are used to improve the comfort and stability of riding horses without a saddle. They offer a soft and padded surface for the rider to sit on, making it more comfortable for both short rides and longer journeys.
Design: Bareback pads are typically made from materials such as foam, fleece, or synthetic materials. They are designed to fit on the horse's back and secure in place with adjustable straps or girths. Some models also have handles or grab straps to help riders maintain balance.
Comfort: The primary function of a bareback pad is to provide a more comfortable riding experience. The padding helps distribute the rider's weight more evenly across the horse's back, reducing pressure points and discomfort.
Stability: Bareback pads often feature non-slip materials on the underside to help keep them in place while riding. This enhances stability and prevents the pad from shifting during movement.
Versatility: Bareback pads are popular among riders for various purposes, including trail riding, casual riding, and even some forms of equestrian competition. They are particularly useful for riders who prefer a closer connection with the horse or for those who don't have access to a traditional saddle.
Safety: While bareback pads can enhance comfort, they do not provide the same level of security and support as a full saddle. Riders should still use appropriate safety gear, such as helmets, and exercise caution when riding with a bareback pad.
Maintenance: Bareback pads should be cleaned and maintained regularly to ensure they remain in good condition. Depending on the material, they may be machine washable or require spot cleaning.
Fit: It's essential to choose a bareback pad that fits both the rider and the horse properly. Ill-fitting pads can lead to discomfort and potential injury for both the rider and the horse.
Personal Preference: The choice to use a bareback pad is a matter of personal preference. Some riders enjoy the close contact and freedom of movement that bareback riding provides, while others prefer the stability and support of a traditional saddle.
In conclusion, bareback pads are a valuable accessory for horseback riding, offering increased comfort and stability when riding without a saddle. Riders should select a bareback pad that fits well and suits their riding style and preferences while always prioritizing safety.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the hardware stainless steel. Where do I order the girth extenders |
Answer: | So you can undo one rein, gently take it over the horses neck and use it the same was you would a lead rope, or if your horse is gentle enough, you can tie him somewhere that way. If they are fiesty or spooky, it might cost you a set of reins. Do buckles on both if you want quick replacement reins as well as a suggestion |
Question: | Can you attach stirrups |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | What length is the girth? I have a 15.1 wide barrel horse and thinking of buyng a different girth to make more comfortable. I am thinking longer |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be cleaned easly. And is the girth well made |
Answer: | I believe the hardware is stainless steel. I do not know where to get extenders, as I did not have to get any. I do love this pad. It is so comfortable. I does not slip sideways, but it does creep backward a little, but not bad enough that I have to get off and fix it. It was a bit pricey, but I really wanted one. I am glad I got it. I have used it more than my Tucker saddle this summer. |
Question: | Hello, my horse use a cinch of 51inches....It`s possible for it |
Answer: | No there isn't really a good place to do that and stirrups arent meant to be attached |
Question: | would it fit a large17hh quarter horse |
Answer: | I use it on my 16 hand Friesian. It still has some length. She's big bodied. |
Question: | would this fit a 12 hand pony |
Answer: | It's not slippery at all and really helps you stay in place! |

User questions & answers
Question: | are the stirrups adjustable |
Answer: | you will have to use your cinch. |
Question: | Does this work on a quarter horse under 1000lbs |
Answer: | Probably, there is a lot of adjustment in the girth on both sides. I have used it on average size horses of several different breeds. The quarter horse I have in my lesson program is well over 16.2 hands and he takes the largest English girth in the barn. I use it on him and they're still is enough adjustment for a larger horse. |
Question: | How do the stirrups attach to the pad? Are they removable |
Answer: | I'm not sure. It fits our horse that is 15.2 hands. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it need a saddle pad underneath |
Answer: | Just wipe it down cleans really easy |
Question: | How thick is the padding |
Answer: | Stirrups cannot be attached to this pad. |
Question: | Girth length |
Answer: | I don't think it would take much space at all! It is completely soft so you could just roll it up to put in a suitcase. I honestly don't remember how big the box was it came in but it is very soft. I just rode in mine on Sunday :) My guess is that it would be about the size of 3 hoodies folded up in a suitcase. Hope that helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with a girth |
Answer: | Yes, the stirrups can be removed |
Question: | Exactly what is the material that you sit on? It looks like plastic, so my only concern with this pad is that it would be slippery on your tush |
Answer: | No saddle pad needed. I have two. They are great. |
Question: | can you mount with this pad |
Answer: | I would say it is about 3/4 of an inch thick, maybe a little less. It is fleece on the bottom and microsuede on the top so it doesn’t provide the same sort of padding as a felt pad would, but is still comfortable for me and my mare. |
Question: | Is is black... I ordered one and it looked purple so I send it back... would like to order it again if it's black |
Answer: | Can't really give an answer. My horses use a 26" western cinch and I have the pad on the highest holes on each side. It can be extended 4 more holes on each side, 2 inches apart. This should fit most horses. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would it fit a small 12hh pony |
Answer: | Yup. Per their website: "Leather reinforced billets attach to the non-slip breathable girth." :) |
Question: | Can you add stirrups |
Answer: | It is a synthetic that is meant to resemble smooth leather. I don't find it slippery. There is padding (foam/memory foam) in the seat which is very comfy. The smooth area is not very large and most of your leg contact, especially lower leg is either on the brushed part or on horse. I ride in knee patch breeches and don't slide around - I bet that full seat breeches would up the stick-factor if you are concerned at all. If your horse is girthy I would recommend adding fleece around the girth as it is just nylon. Hope that helps. |
Question: | is it avalible in cob/extra large pony size |
Answer: | Well, the pad doesn't have stirrups - so you probably can't. Once you're up on it it stays in place very well and is very comfortable for both my horse and me. |
Question: | Would the girth fit a cob or mideuiim pony |
Answer: | Mine was definitely black when I ordered it! I love mine for the comfort it gives to both myself and our high withered boy. |

Question: | Can the stirrups be removed |
Answer: | It would but you would likely have to change the girth out to pony size. |

Answer: | The pad itself is one size, the cinch is what you change out to make it fit your horse/pony. |
Question: | Are both bags the same, or is the bag on the other side good for a water bottle |

Question: | does the cinch have a ring on it to connect to a breast collar |

Question: | is the seat too sticky making it hard to maneuver around on? like when you are trying to get on? are you happy with all the dring placements and girth |
Answer: | Typically a saddle pad goes between the horse and the saddle |
Question: | Is the girth removable |
