Not sure if it will fit a 5 year old, but I think it’s worth to try because of the straps that can be adjusted. I got it for a 6 and 8 and even 10 year old. It’s done right. I would buy it again. Answer:	I learned to wash mine with a mixture of bleach and water. It’s more of infectious control than anything. It’s a 90 - 10 mix 90 % water and 10 % bleach. Most coaches use this on Heavy bags and other equipment in the gym. Just spray and wipe.

Answer:	I believe it is synthetic. Doesn't feel thick enough for real leather. They have held up very well for me. I have been using twice a week for a year and a half and they still look like new.
