12 best cantilever scope mounts
Cantilever scope mounts are a type of mounting system used in shooting sports, particularly in the context of rifles and firearms optics. These mounts are designed to attach scopes, red dot sights, or other optical devices to a firearm while offering several advantages:
Forward Offset: The defining feature of cantilever scope mounts is their forward offset design. This means that the scope is positioned farther forward on the firearm's receiver or rail system compared to traditional scope mounts. The forward offset serves several purposes:
Eye Relief: It allows for optimal eye relief, ensuring the shooter can maintain a comfortable and consistent position while aiming.
Proper Eye Position: It helps shooters achieve the correct eye position, especially when using magnified scopes with longer eye relief.
Improved Balance: Cantilever mounts can help improve the balance and weight distribution of the firearm. By moving the optic forward, the rifle's center of gravity can be more balanced, making it easier to handle and aim accurately.
Enhanced Rail Space: Some firearms have limited rail space or mounting options. Cantilever mounts allow shooters to maximize the available rail space while still accommodating their chosen optic.
Compatibility: These mounts are versatile and can be used on various firearm platforms, including AR-style rifles, bolt-action rifles, shotguns, and more. They are available for both picatinny and dovetail-style rails.
Quick Detach (QD) Options: Some cantilever mounts feature quick-detach mechanisms, allowing for rapid removal and reinstallation of the optic without the need for tools. This can be advantageous for cleaning or switching between optics.
Cantilever scope mounts are commonly used by competitive shooters, hunters, and tactical shooters who require precise aiming and flexibility in their optics setup. They come in different heights to accommodate different scope sizes and objective lens diameters.
When selecting a cantilever scope mount, it's essential to consider factors such as the height, rail compatibility, and the type of optic you plan to use. It's also important to ensure that the mount is securely attached to the firearm to maintain accuracy and safety.
Overall, cantilever scope mounts are a popular choice for those seeking a reliable and flexible solution to mount optics on firearms, helping to achieve better accuracy and comfort during shooting activities.

User questions & answers
Question: | Work for m1a eye relief |
Answer: | If you want to do a durability test to see how many times you can send a pellet down range before it refuses to hold zero, you can use it on a magnum air rifle. If it is a variable pump, non-magnum (Below 1000 FPS) inert gas, springer (any speed below 700 FPS) or a PCP air gun the answer will be yes. Otherwise if you do expect to use it on a spring piston(springer) or magnum speed rifle of any make the answer will be you can try but your durability will suffer. I have killed 4 scopes over the last 2 years putting them on my pellet rifles(Barksa, Centerpoint, Simmons and Gamo). Now I use magnum airgun rated scopes (Cabela's Brand the best so far and UTG/Leapers). |
Question: | Will this fit on a chiappa m |
Answer: | Yes, I put it on my 30+ year old Marlin model 60 with the included rings and it not only bolted right on, but I was on paper at 50 yards with the first shot group - only about 4" off target with no pre-sighting at all! |
Question: | Would this mount be strong enough for use with a shotgun |
Answer: | The rings that come with this scope will not securely attach to the dovetail on either a Marlin XT-22 or a Marlin 795. There is a lot of the scope creep. For the XT-22 I bought weaver scope bases, for the Marlin 795 I ended up buying a UTG air rifle base with integral rings. The scope is great, the rings that come with it are subpar though. |
Question: | What is the height from top of rail to bottom of ring |
Answer: | I have it mounted on my 10/22 takedown. Fits in the carrying case when mounted, but barely. Great scope for that rifle imo |

Question: | Will these work for my vortex crossfire ii 3-9x50 riflescope w/ v-brite reticle(.270 rem adl rifle) ty |
Answer: | My granddaughter opened all the doors at once. She is 2 1/2 years old. So no ours cannot cannot be reused in the way it was originally opened. But she had a wonderful time with the pieces! |
Question: | How sturdy is this mount with a scope on it is it very secure |
Answer: | I haven’t found the extra pieces to do that. I would like to get the stable so that the Advent calendar could turn into a regular nativity. I have found that you can get extra camels, but you really have to look for them. I would also like to be able to expand my granddaughters Noah’s ark set to the larger set. I haven’t been able to find those animals either. |
Question: | Will this provide enough clearance to mount a 50mm objective NightForce Scope on top of an AR |
Answer: | No. It comes in the set only. |
Question: | Will this work on a Ruger precision rifle with the 20 moa base with the vortex viper pst 6-24x50 with the sunshade |
Answer: | This product is for my granddaughter so it hasn’t been opened yet. Whole box measures 16”x 30”. Daily slots to be opened measure 2” x 3” with 2 slots that are larger. The manger is part of the cardboard packaging of the whole box. This looks like it will be fun for younger kids to count down the days in December. |

Question: | Will this work for a ar10 using a vortex diamondback 6x24x |

Question: | Will this mount to a Lithgow LA-101 which uses a weaver mount |

Question: | Will this work to use a sightmark latitude 10-40x60 f-class riflescope, black, sm13044ftr xk-rs-frcl-sm13044ftr on a ruger precision rifle |
Answer: | I have the 1.5" version of this in top of an AR10 (similar mount) and it's too low to clear my 50mm objective crossfire. You want this one. I'll post again after I get it mounted, but I only need another .25" so I'm confident this will resolve my problem. |
Question: | What are the pros / cons on having a cantilever or stand alone rings on a ruger precision rifle in 6.5cr |
Answer: | Yes it will. Not sure why everyone else answering this question has to be a jerk. Best of luck with your setup! Make sure to learn to zero and calculate ballistics |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can iy be mounted in reverse to bring scope close to shooter for eye relief |
Answer: | I just received the 0.8" height rings and mounted a Vortex 4-12x44 Copperhead scope on a Picatinny rail equipped bolt action. The fit was perfect. |
Question: | Will this work on 7.62x54r |
Answer: | no they will not. they only mount to a picatinny rail mount or weaver style mounts. these are too wide for dovetail . |
Question: | Does this work on Ruger Precision Rifles |
Answer: | If the diameter of your scope is one inch you can use the one inch diameter rings. Now what you have got to deal with is the height of the rings which will probably have to be a "high" ring to use with a 50MM objective lens. Medium rings might give you clearance between the scope objective end and the barrel but I doubt it. If you are mounting it on an AR platform it would probably work. Ya just have to try different combinations sometimes to get the right fit for you! |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | While the rings did not give recommended torque specs my scope recommended no tighter than 15 inch pounds |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on my cva scout v2 .45-70 govt |
Answer: | Go with a mount with no forward cant. This is to push the scope forward and still be able to mount to the receiver. |
Question: | do the screws holding the scope need to be torqued to specific amount |
Answer: | It will work on any firearm regardless of caliber as long as the firearm has a mil spec 1917 picatinny rail or equivalent on top. Since you asked 7.62x54r, I'm going to guess Mosin Nagant. You'll need an adapter to mount this. Also, you might be better served with scope rings instead as they allow for a lower scope placement. This mount was designed for AR style weapons so it rests quite high. |
Question: | Can this be mounted on gamo 6110017154 varmint air rifle .177 cal |
Answer: | This item will fit on a Ruger Precision Rifle, but is designed to push the scope forward for more eye relief. I believe the standard model or the extended version would be a better fit on a bolt action rifle than this SPR mount. |
Question: | what is the ring height from base of the mount to bottom of the ring? Will this fit a 54 mm objective lens scope on a flat top pictanny rail |
Answer: | This is made in the USA at their factory in Tacoma, WA. |

Question: | I have a Bushnell 4.5-18x40 scope. Will this mount have enough back and forth adjustment for eye relief? mounting on flat top ar |
Answer: | Yes it should work. |
Question: | What aluminium is made of: 6061 or |
Answer: | Man don’t want to give bum info I used this to mount a vortex Diamondback tactical 12x40 on a SIG 716 , I would suggest you call vortex they give awesome customer service |
Question: | Can I turn this around and have the scope extend rearward over the stock for closer eye relief |
Answer: | With the flat top that I have it works because it moves the scope forward to get my eye relief. I have a very small area to mount a scope, without this feature I wouldn’t be able to mount one. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the part number for this apra |
Answer: | Will work yes. However I believe to high for. Lever action rifle |
Question: | I lost the tightening tool for the screws, and am looking for a replacement. I'm wondering, are the screws/tool are proprietary |
Answer: | The screws can be torqued until theyre tight enough that the scope does not wobble at all, then you can zero the scope itself for accuracy. |
Question: | Will this elevate the scope high enough to clear fixed front sights |
Answer: | As long as it has a weaver style rail (Picatinny rail) on top, it will fit. |
Question: | What's the difference between this model and the "SPR" model |
Answer: | I had to get a cantilevered mount to get my 4.5x-18x 40mm Bushnell to mount forward of the charging handle of my Ruger AR-556. I don't know why they give the measurements that they do, but as best as I could measure without taking it back off the rifle, it is one inch from the bottom of the mount to inside of the ring for a 30mm scope, or 1 & 1/16" with the sleeves for a 1" scope. As for a 54mm objective, it is satisfactory with my 40mm, but I would actually prefer a slightly higher mount. |

Answer: | It's 50mm. |
Question: | Is this mount for a 1" tube |
Answer: | I cant be 100% sure but i believe it will cause you can slide back and forth quit a bit, plus i guess if you had to ,you could turn it around. All my ar's have scopes and havnt had a issue yet, only issue is i had to get a charge handle extension. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Any ironsight recommendation to use with this scope mount? They would need to be low enough to view through the base of the scope mount |
Answer: | It never said on the package that I recall. My guess would be 6061 but I really don't know. |
Question: | Will this work with a 50mm scope on an AR |
Answer: | I'm not sure I have not turned one around but I don't see why it wouldn't work |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there more in 30mm? All I see is 25mm |
Answer: | Yes. It says 1" rite in the description... and it's a high profile mount. With a 50 mm offset. It's nice. You wont be disappointed. I have put several of these on when you want a good mount that wont break the bank. |
Question: | What is the height of the center of the recticle |
Answer: | No . The problem is that the base of the scope ring mounts are not see through ( notch out). The base of the low,mid and high UTG scope mounts are all the same. The difference is the height the ring from the barrel. Hopefully this will help. |
Question: | Can anyone confirm this mount is actually 20 moa |
Answer: | Depends entirely on whether your tube is 2 inch or 30mm, check that, mount is high profile so it has enough clearance for your objective bell |
