12 best break barrels
A break barrel is a type of action mechanism commonly found in air rifles and air pistols used in shooting and hunting. It's a mechanism that allows the shooter to break open the barrel of the gun, typically at a hinge point near the front of the stock, in order to load a pellet or a BB into the breech. Once the projectile is loaded, the shooter closes the barrel, which cocks the gun and readies it for firing.
Here are some key points about break barrels in the context of shooting, hunting, and gun maintenance:
Loading Mechanism: Break barrels have a single-shot loading mechanism, meaning you must manually load one pellet or BB at a time. This makes them less suitable for rapid-fire situations compared to semi-automatic or bolt-action firearms.
Power Source: Most break barrel air guns are powered by a spring piston system or a gas ram (nitrogen-filled cylinder), which provides the force to propel the pellet or BB. Some high-end models use a pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) system for increased accuracy and power.
Accuracy: Break barrels are known for their accuracy, making them popular choices for target shooting and small game hunting. Proper shooting technique and consistent maintenance are essential for achieving optimal accuracy.
Maintenance: Like any firearm or air gun, proper maintenance is crucial to ensure the longevity and performance of a break barrel. Maintenance tasks may include cleaning the barrel, lubricating moving parts, and checking seals and springs for wear and tear. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help maintain accuracy and reliability.
Accessories: Various accessories are available for break barrel air guns, such as scopes, mounts, and bipods, to enhance accuracy and ease of use. Additionally, some shooters may customize their guns with aftermarket triggers and stocks for improved ergonomics and performance.
Storage: When not in use, it's important to store break barrel air guns safely and securely, preferably in a locked cabinet or gun safe. Proper storage helps prevent accidents and unauthorized access.
Safety: Always treat break barrel air guns with the same respect and safety precautions as you would a traditional firearm. Never point them at anything you don't intend to shoot, and follow all local laws and regulations regarding their use.
Remember that the specific features and maintenance requirements of break barrel air guns can vary depending on the make and model. It's essential to consult the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for your particular firearm to ensure safe and proper usage.

User questions & answers
Question: | All these questions are crap. Is it a good gun or not |
Answer: | I'm 75. I like shooting handguns and shoot everything from .22 to .44 Mag. I have had my Trevox for several years. Worst thing about the gun is the trigger pull at first. I gets better the more you shoot and and mine got decent after a few hundred rounds. I shoot mine a lot and can hit soda can sized targets out to 50 feet and sometimes beyond. I have also dispatched a number of pesky red squirrels with it who were creating havoc in my out buildings. Take some time sighting it in. Use decent pellets and you can have a lot of fun for not very much money. It is not a toy, all gun safety precautions apply to using it. It is a good gun for the money, in my opinion. |
Question: | Why is this described as a BB pistol |
Answer: | It is not a bb pistol —- it has a rifled barrel and only shoots lead pellets |
Question: | What is the manufacturer FPS rating on this for led pellets |
Answer: | The manufacturer rating for this gun is at 540 FPS for led pellets. A few vids i have seen that chrony this gun got it around 440 FPS with 9 grain pellet. |
Question: | How much does this weigh? How much effort to cock it |
Answer: | It weighs 3.15 pounds. Cocking requires some effort, but I am 74 and manage. I live out in the country and shoot mine almost every day. I often cock it 50 to 100 times during a shooting session without difficulty. I was concerned about the trigger pull after reading a number of reviews. The trigger pull gets quite good after shooting it several hundred times. Sights are quite good and easily adjustable. I hit cans more often than not at 50 plus feet. I have a number of pellet pistols and like this one the best. If you sight it in and shoot it enough for the trigger pull to improve, you will be able to hit what you aim at. |

Question: | Where is the Sheridan 2260MB CO2 Rifle air rifle made |
Answer: | Hi Thomas , sorry for delayer response just wanted to double check with my supplier \, the Sheridan 2260MB CO2 Rifle air rifle manufactured in the USA.ThanksPhil |
Question: | is this just as good as the crosman optimus .177 just with a different caliber. Or does the caliber effect it |
Answer: | I have notOwned the Optimus in .177 caliber. I have hit crows at over 50 yards no problem with the .22 Optimus. If you sight in the scope that it comes with, you should have no problem shooting 1 inch patterns at over 50 yards. The .22 does shoot 200 fps lower than the .177. There are a lot of factors that affect accuracy. One factor on accuracy is pellet quality. Cheap pellets have less accuracy than ones that are better quality. I have tried the hollow point, super point, and the destroyer pellets. They are all good pellets. If you are looking for accuracy just use on type of pellet and sight your scope in at about 35 yards. The rifle has a lot of power! |
Question: | how far can it shoot |
Answer: | I shoot squirrels at 50 to 75 feet with perfect acuracy with the aid of the 4X magnification scope that comes with this gun. I was originally suspicious of the 1200 fps rating, that is powered only by a break-over barrel that compresses an air chamber with a strong spring. This gun is MUCH MORE POWERFUL than the Crossman pellet gun that I had purchased a few years ago from Amazon. I highly reccommend it for its power, acuracy due to the HIGH-QUALITY SCOPE. The scope on my previous Crossman pellet gun was NOT nearly as good as this model is. I am highly satisfied, & have killed many squirels with this model gun that I have had for 6 months. It is also much easier to cock than the pump up models of Crossman/Benjamin pellet guns that I have had starting as far back as a teenager, when I killed rabbits with my Benjamin pellet rifle. |
Question: | can I mount a red dot sight in place of the scope |
Answer: | BSA makes a pretty decent red dot sight. It has a reversable mount that works on either 11mm/3/8 dovetail, or a Weaver/Picatinny scope. |

Two screws shear off!!! Crazy! We since have bought the Gamo Fushion Mach I. Better construction, no Issues!! Go with GAMO!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is a real workbench vise needed? i know it would be easier, but can an average person hold the ksg and use an impact wrench on this |
Answer: | One person can hold the KSG in their hands with the butstoc on the floor, muzzle up. The air impact wrench will pop it off in 3 seconds with little effort. Good luck. |
Question: | Air comp scfm? i see a 90psi/6scfm air wrench and tanks for 90psi/0.6scfm. will this work? or not be enough air to turn the nut |
Answer: | Best to use an air "impact" wrench. The 90 psi should work fine. It's the jolting action of the impact wrench that breaks the Nut free. It should crack lose in about 3 seconds flat. Karl, Hi-Tech Custom Concepts Inc. |
Question: | Can I use a 1/2in breaker bar |
Answer: | I have seen many customer struggle unsuccessfully with a breaker bar, because Kel-tec uses a machine with locktite to install the factory nut. We highly recommend an air impact wrench which will pop off that nut in 3-seconds flat, with zero effort and no possible damage to your KSG. Just our experience. |
Question: | will this also work with the KSG |
Answer: | You'll have to look at the luge configuration. Is it a GEN 1, no, Gen 3 or newer, yes. |

Product description
The only thing that isn’t fun about owning a 1911 is taking it down, until now. The 1911 Smart Wrench has brought a brand new experience to the time tested 1911 platform. Taking down the 1911 with the uninspiried plastic tools that come with your 1911 is straight up frustrating. The wrench is hard to get a grip on and when the barrel bushing finally comes off, the spring and plug go flying. The 1911 Smart Wrench’s ergonomic design fits comfortably in your hand while you remove the barrel bushing, and the strategically placed cavity catches the spring. The 1911 Smart Wrench also removes the barrel bushing from the Officer’s as well as the Government model of the 1911.
- EASILY REMOVE YOUR 1911 BARREL BUSHING: Put the bushing wrench flat on the table so the rubber ring grabs the table, then simply twist. It makes taking apart your 45 a breeze!
- KEEP YOUR RECOIL SPRING FROM FLYING: When you twist, the tool captures your 45’s recoil spring plug so it doesn’t go flying across the room.
- KEEP YOUR GUN LOOKING GOOD: The non-marring, engineering-grade resin won’t mar or damage your favorite gun’s parts plus the 2018 model is tougher than ever before.
- WORKS FOR BOTH GOVERNMENT AND OFFICER MODELS: the two-sided design fits both government and officer 1911s
- THE SMARTEST 1911 BBL BUSHING TOOL: the innovative design makes the Smart Wrench the perfect disassembly tool to add to your pistol gunsmithing accessories kit
User questions & answers
Question: | Will this device work on a full length guide rod |
Answer: | Not unless there is enough space to push down the spring plug |
Question: | Does the work on browning 1911 black label .380 commander size |
Answer: | There has been no need to use on mine. I leave the clip in to take out the bushing. After that cock the gun and remove the pin. It is so much easier for me, good luck. |
Question: | will this work with on a gsg |
Answer: | I don't know. You may not need it as for most 1911 models your thumb should be sufficient to push down the recoil plug and spring and move the barrel bushing to the side and disassemble the weapon. We got this wrench because the Springfield loaded 1911 uses a different take-down system with the recoil spring plug and initially it was a b***h to move the bushing to takedown the weapon for cleaning and lubrication. |
Question: | Does this work for the mil spec 1911 Springfield |
Answer: | Does not work on my Springfield 1911 9mm loaded model PI9134LCA Does work on Colt 1911 45acp model 01070xse but still had to use fingers to reassemble |
