14 best hunting pellets
Hunting pellets are small, typically cylindrical projectiles designed for use in air guns, such as pellet rifles and pellet pistols. These pellets are a crucial component of airgun ammunition and play a vital role in determining the accuracy and effectiveness of the shot. Here's what you need to know about hunting pellets:
Caliber: Airgun pellets come in various calibers, which are measured in inches or millimeters. Common calibers include .177 (4.5mm) and .22 (5.5mm). The choice of caliber depends on the type of game you intend to hunt and your personal preferences.
Design: Pellets come in different designs, with the two most common types being diabolo and wadcutter. Diabolo pellets have a tapered shape with a pointed or domed head, which offers better aerodynamics and accuracy. Wadcutter pellets have a flat head and are often used for target shooting due to their clean, circular holes in paper targets.
Weight: Pellets are available in various weights, typically measured in grains (gr). Heavier pellets may offer better accuracy at longer ranges but can lose velocity more quickly. Lighter pellets may have flatter trajectories but may be less stable in windy conditions.
Material: Hunting pellets are typically made from lead or lead alloy.Lead pellets are known for their accuracy and expansion upon impact, making them suitable for hunting small game. Some non-lead alternatives are available for areas with lead restrictions.
Hollow Point vs. Pointed: Hollow point pellets have a concave tip designed to promote expansion upon impact, creating a larger wound channel for hunting. Pointed pellets have a sharp, pointed tip for better penetration, making them suitable for shooting through dense vegetation.
Velocity and Energy: The velocity and energy of a pellet are critical factors for hunting effectiveness. Higher velocities can provide better accuracy and more kinetic energy, which is essential for taking down game animals.
Accuracy: Accurate shot placement is crucial in hunting, and the right pellet can significantly impact accuracy. It's essential to test different pellets in your airgun to find the ones that provide the best accuracy for your specific rifle or pistol.
Legal Considerations: Check local laws and regulations regarding the use of airguns and hunting pellets. Some jurisdictions may have restrictions on caliber, material, or hunting with airguns.
Pellet Care: Proper storage and care of pellets are essential to maintain their performance. Store them in a cool, dry place to prevent deformation or oxidation.
When choosing hunting pellets for your airgun, it's essential to consider your specific hunting needs, the type of game you'll be pursuing, and the capabilities of your airgun. Experimenting with different pellet types and weights can help you find the best combination for accuracy and hunting success. Always prioritize safety and adhere to ethical hunting practices when using airguns for hunting.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these fit a beretta px4 storm bb gun |
Answer: | yes, technically it will. these are .177 caliber. however, i would not recommend it. these barracuda hollow-points are designed for hunting. (so they are much pricier then normal pellets.) bb/pellet handguns, especially replicas, are more for training purposes and/or backyard plinkering fun. in my opinion, it would be a waste to use these bad boys in anything less than a PCP air rifle. for inexpensive fun? use bb's. want better accuracy? use wadcutters. you just want some real quality (aka. expensive) pellets? get JSB Match Diabolo Exact .177 Cal. |
Question: | Will these fit in a 177 air pistol magazine like the c-15 bone collector pistol |
Answer: | The fit should be the same as wad cutters or simple pointed pellets. But, I have never used a magazine, only break barrel rifle |
Question: | Will these work with an MCX pellet gun |
Answer: | I was given a MCX for review when they first came out. The gun on co2 is pushing no where near stated energy/fps even with alloy. The gun will push about 370fps with a 8.66 grain pellet. Now i changed mine to 1200psi regulated air, 13ci 3000psi bottle reg to 1200psi and changed the hammer spring, get 60 shots on the reg at 630fps with H&N FTT 8.66 grain. I take feral pidgons with this gun and it's accurate enough to take them out to 40 yards at its current power level. Yes this pellet will shoot them, the reason I told you all this is this pellet is to heavy for that gun on Co2, you will have jams as the slightly harder alloy along with the increased weight and extremely low power of the gun stock you will have pellets not come out the barrel if you shoot a few shots quick and chill the gun dropping the co2 pressure and it will just not be enough to even push the pellet down the tube. A stronger hammer spring and a regulated bottle makes that gun ckme alive and it's just better all the way around. |
Question: | Anyone shot these from a ruger blackhawk? Curious about the accuracy. Thx |
Answer: | I did. Accurate to 40’. After that they went up and right - but not as much as lighter pellets did. Then the Ruger broke and I can’t find a repair place. ALL lighter pellets did! I’m also using the H&N 15gr pellet with great success now. Also - ditch the scope that came with it snd buy one that’s is built for a springer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this fit the daisy power line |
Answer: | No. The Daisy 340 shoots .177 caliber steel BB's. Pellets will not fit in the magazine. |
Question: | are these "Splat" Pellets (i.e., miss the target and they flatten out on a hard object (like a roof |
Answer: | No,the destoyers are designed for small game hunting,I.e rabbit, squirrel etc.,they do not "splat"they penetrate, you want regular pellets for target shooting, they are blunt nosed and "splat" when hitting a hard surface. |
Question: | do these pallets work on Marksman biathlon trainer air rifle |
Answer: | If it's a .177 cal. air rifle, they should work just fine. Keep in mind for 'target' shooting (paper), you're probably better with target pellets. These are designed for their ability to spread out larger than their .177 diameter upon entering the 'target' (think of a squirrel) for maximum tissue damage. |
Question: | Are these alloy or lead |
Answer: | These are lead. From a 1200 FPS rifle, they travel 1000 FPS.They are devastating. There are heavier hunting pellets and lighter alloy pellets. These are just right. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit Sig Sauer P |
Answer: | Is this a serious question? No these will not fit a Sig Sauer P226. You need to check which caliber of P226 you have and purchase that ammo. This is pellet gun ammo. |
Question: | This doesn't give the mass. what is it |
Answer: | They are 9.8 grain and so nice weight but they are not a good quality pellet. They are small and have had them slide out and fall on the ground. The Crosman Premier Domed .177 Caliber 10.5 Grain Pellet is a good pellet. Try WM on line with free shipping for best deal. |
Question: | Will these fit the rotary magazine in my Beretta 92fs co2 pistol |
Answer: | Yes, the Winchester round nose .177 pellets should work in that model; however, you should contact the manufacturer of that particular air pistol to get their recommendations since it is their air pistol. |
Question: | How many Grains |
Answer: | Other commenter's have suggested that they are just short of 10 grains (9.8)....and that Pyramid Air may have some 'specs' on them. Hope that helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | why some tins said premier pointed and others jus pointed , in the picture looks the same , i want the premier pointed bt this looks exactly he same |
Answer: | What I am finding through using different manufacturers of pellets is that the manufacturing process is not consistent. Yes, they all look the same, and are probably from the same molds, but they vary in size. I just got a package of pellets from another brand, which are half a grain heavier per pellet, my gun seems to like them much better. Even so, that brand’s pellets also noticeably vary in size. So the question comes down to, which ones work in your gun, and the only way to find out is to try them. |
Question: | will these pellets work well for a break barrel that has 1200fps |
Answer: | I seriously doubt it. Pellet's don't like flying at supersonic speed, they become very unstable and accuracy is lost. Best to keep pellets around 950fps. A break barrel / springer pellet gun don't really control the pellet speed. The spring force is fixed. The weight of the pellet more than anything determines the speed. These pellets are about as lite as it gets at 7.4 grains. For a powerful breakbarrel like that your best bet is the heaviest pellet you can get. The 10.5 grain would be about a good choice. |
Question: | Does thees pellets fit the american classic pump action |
Answer: | Yes, its a good, pointed pellet. Go's into the gun, easy, not like the flat nose. The flat nose (target) pellets, lots of times will, turn over, as you load it. |
Question: | I have a Crosman American Classic Pump Air Pistol (.177), and all the pellets/bbs i try are always extremely in-accurate. Anyone have a suggestion |
Answer: | For a more accurate pellet you should be using Crosman (Copperhead) .177 Pellets 500 ct.- Competition Wadcutter. I am not sure about a competiton BB. I believe mosr BB's are about the same. |

Question: | Are they 4.5 mm |
Answer: | 4.496 mm |
Question: | FPS .177 daisy will these work |
Answer: | If your gun will shoot ,177 cal, pellets it will shoot the red fires . |
Question: | Can i use these in crosman 1077? the crosman fast flight wont work because they are to long for the clip |
Answer: | Fast flight are often inaccurate. Try a normal pellet like Crosman Premiere Hollowpoint or some H&N pellets like the Terminator pellets. I like the H&N Field Target Trophy 8.64 grain in many guns. Wad cutters seem to work good in the 1077. |
Question: | My pellet gun shoots at 1200fps, and 1400 with HV pellets. Will these pellets work well with this gun its a walther talon riffle, for coyotes |
Answer: | They'll work well my gun shoots same fps but since they are a heavier pellet they won't shoot as far but they'll have more hit behind them. I used them for squirrel n dove they would tear the doves up n knock squirrels out of trees dead before hit ground this was all from 30-50 yards as I shot further away I noticed pellet would drop pretty quick after 50 yrds n would not even make it 100 yards so keep the coyotes close if possible know that's hard but keep quiet or snare them n then shootem ....in all u thought great pellet for price! !! |

Question: | Can i reuse them if i shoot into a pellet trap |
Answer: | depends what gun you are using. i shoot them twice through i gun that shoot about 500 fps. but when i use the higher ones like 750-1000 Fps yes they usually do deform to much. With a pump rifle, using 5 pumps you can usually re-shoot them. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this product work with a crosman 1088; I don't think so...too long for the rotary clip |
Answer: | Hi,Not sure what a crosman 1088 is.They do not shoot well from a spring loaded .177 rifle. They shoot great from a .177 pistol because they are so light. |
Question: | How is the length of these pellets? more than 8mm |
Answer: | 9.75mm |
Question: | Will these shoot in a air pistol |
Answer: | This ammo should work in any .177 caliber air pistol, however they are a bit long and may not work as well in a rotary style magazine. |
Question: | will they work in a daisy power line |
Answer: | They should work just fine as long as it's a .177 caliber gun. Keep in mind these are not lead, so if you hit anything hard with them there is a good chance of a ricochet. If you are not in the habit of wearing safety glasses when shooting I would highly recommend it with these. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work as home defense against intruders? cant get a gun |
Answer: | Try the Sig Sauer MCX .177 CAL Co2 Powered (30 Rounds) it fires off 30 rounds in one magazine, so buying two or more magazines increases your fire rate for home defense, plus higher velocity over a pellet pistol since you can't buy a fire arm. I have aSig Sauer MCX .177 CAL Co2 Powered that I shot in my back yard when not out with my fire arms or my Benjamin Armada PCP at the range. Also check with your local indoor & outdoor ranges most will allow you to fire your pellet rifles there as well. |
Question: | Can you use in co2 pistol |
Answer: | As far as I know, yes. same .177 size. *note: does travel at high vel.* |
Question: | How would these be on wood chuck, ,JR |
Answer: | Wtf is a wood chuck jr? Like a young wood chuck or like Jeff the second in line of Jeff named wood chucks? And it’s woodchuck you illiterate redneck. |
Question: | Are these lead-free pellets |
Answer: | Yes,These are lead free pellets.Polymer skirted with copper heads,very fast,love them. |
