The Spetsnaz is a Soviet special ops group that had its beginnings in WWII era Russia. During the Cold War, the need for a multi-purpose blade became apparent, so a survival machete was designed to chop, cut, pry, saw, hammer, and perform just about every other field duty. This modern update takes the original design and improves the functionality in a couple of ways. The original had a hollow, squarish plastic handle to store matches and the like, but made the knife incredibly tip heavy and hard to use. This version has a full profile tang and contoured hardwood scales for superior comfort and balance. Secondly, the original blade was made from super-hard steel so the knife could be used as a pry-bar but was next to impossible to sharpen. Modern carbon steel makes this updated blade easier to give a fresh edge. This is a thick, tough campmate that excels in light to medium/heavy chopping (a little short of a hatchet), digging and emergency sawing. The top blade bevels are sharpened to a chisel edge. The tang and blade are a full 3/8" thick for plenty of heft and durability. Integral thumb rest has a nail puller slot. Nylon sheath has leather trim and two belt loops (fits roughly up to a 2-1/4" belt width, depending on belt thickness) for tip-up or tip-down carry. Weighs 2 lbs. 15-1/2" overall, 10" blade. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.

User questions & answers
Question: | Looks to me like this is just about the best possible blade to baton wood. How thick is the spine? Anybody find anything better |
Answer: | 1st rule of hiking...don't talk about hiking (rule broken) 2nd rule of hiking...always hike with a buddy 3rd rule of hiking... if you come across a bear, stab your buddy, because... 4th rule of hiking...you don't have to be faster than the bear, you just have to be faster than your buddy 5th rule of hiking (and 1st rule of bears), never bring a knife to a bear fight |
Question: | Is this made is America |
Answer: | CONDOR AUSTRALIAN ARMY MACHETE |
Question: | What is the size of this knife |
Answer: | Nope, because this sheath is looped (to slide onto a belt) AND it is big enough to insert the blade in either direction (edge facing left or right), you can actually wear it on either side and draw it regular or cross from both positions. Very useful. |
Question: | What kind of steel is used |
Answer: | my machete as pictured and I ordered (3), had no pocket you mention, very well made machete. Big problem on all (3) of the machetes I ordered, the retaining snap is placed in the wrong place and won't wrap around the handle and snap. I contacted vendor, no help even after sending before and after photos, cost me $20/machete to fix problem. I took the scabbard to a shoe repair shop, where the leather strap was relocated and could snap, securing the machete. Informed. Solid made machete but doubt I would purchase again based on the securing snap issue and lack of vendor help to resolve problem properly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the sheath give a positive click when you put it back in |
Answer: | No it does not. However it is snug and has a Velcro strap that secures it in the sheath. |
Question: | How thick is the spine at the cross-guard and how thick is the spine at mid belly |
Answer: | 3/16" on both |
Question: | I see this is now listed as 8cr steel, instead of 3cr steel. How is the 8cr steel on edge holding |
Answer: | It holds an edge better than 3CR steel. 8CR is a good entry level alloy in decent pocket knives. I never understood why Schrade used 3CR on this knife. |
Question: | Can this be worn on your lower back where your belt is left to right going over to some nasty places overseas where you need to deal with certain anim |
Answer: | I'm sure you could rig it by adding Velcro straps or whatever, its big though,, the sheath is very nice, it is a hard plastic and holds the knife nicely. it comes with a rigid loop for your Belt but also an adjustable sling which looks like it will be most handy. It really is impressive. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is that little notch next to the hook for? Besides pulling branches what does that hook do that the straight blade couldn't |
Answer: | The notch is used for hand placement when making shavings from a log. The hook is used to clear areas where swinging is not possible. For example, when you clear vines from next to a building or post, you can not use a full swing motion, so instead you can use the hook and pull it towards you. The hook comes in very handy in tight quarter clearing. |
Question: | Why does the edge stop at the point |
Answer: | The tool was designed with the blunted point as a safety precaution for the user. |
Question: | Is it a full tang |
Answer: | Yes, full tang. Good steel also. Pretty awesome tool to have. |
Question: | Could someone descibe the technique/tools they use to sharpen sickle edge |
Answer: | Hello - we include a Lansky Sharpening Stone (American Made) in our orders that is a long, rounded rectangular shape. You will use the wide side of the stone to sharpen the long blade and the edge of the stone for the hook. Sharpen in one 'pushing' motion, not pulling. Pushing the stone against the edge in one direction will sharpen the sickle edge. The long length of the stone will keep your hands and fingers away from the sharp edge. Scotch Brite material should remove rust on the flat surfaces. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the knife have a 90 degree flat spine |
Answer: | Yes, the spine is flat and perpendicular to the sides of the blade. |
Question: | What country is it made in |
Answer: | Made in Taiwan |
Question: | Do you think it will ruin the blade if i sharpen it with a Smith's PP1 Pocket Pal Sharpener |
Answer: | Hi, Don't get the Smith's Pocket Pal (the quality is low compared to the Lansky Sharpeners). Buy either a Lansky Blade Medic or a Lansky Quad Sharp (both sharpeners under $15.00). Both are all metal construction (not made of plastic and can take years of rugged abuse without falling apart. Blade medics are my go to in all my packs and bugout bags because they are easy to add a razor sharp edge to your knife very quickly. They have preset 25 degree sharpeners in carbide and ceramic. Also, it has a ceramic stone for free hand honing and a round diamond file for serrated blades. I've always had razor sharp blades using the blade medic. The Quadsharp has four preset carbide sharpeners set to 17, 20, 25, and 30 degrees as well as a white ceramic honing tool to remove the burs from the blade edge. Finishing up with a leather or polyester strop is always a good idea (if you aren't familiar with honing with a ceramic rod/stone which with my sharpening skill works just the same if not better). Remember, ceramic is harder than steel. A little fact: Ceramic stones/rods come in a variety from course to ultra fine. Ultra Fine, Black, Ceramic Stones have been (and still are in other countries) used to sharpen medical scapels to cut open flesh during surgery. The scapel doesn't need to be stroped after using a Black Ceramic Stone. As for me, I purchase the ceramic rods below and use them free hand to keep my knifes razor sharp (the 4 1/2 in for knife cases and bugout bags and the 8 1/2 for general home use): 4 1/2 inch Ceramic Sharpening Rod https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AFWPHV0/ref=pd_aw_sim_200_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QPRBE7Z8C16T5BC4T5WG&dpPl=1&dpID=31C2G1KnIbL 8 1/2 inch Ceramic Sharpening Rod https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AFWNNPC/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1517075475&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Ceramic+sharpening+rod Genuine Arkansas Black Surgical (Ultra Fine) Pocket Knife Sharpening Stone Whetstone 3" X 1" X 1/4" in Leather Pouch Bap-13A-L https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015AA288G/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_pcmBAb32HDKEG Lansky Blade Medic https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0085PPSIQ/ref=pd_aw_fbt_200_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=VZSSQ3XGGZ505HPDWJ6P Lansky Quadsharp https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BE8KCN6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517075822&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=lansky+quadsharp&dpPl=1&dpID=418TUEPisEL&ref=plSrch Sincerely, SurvivalGeek (YouTube) |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the grind on the knife |
Answer: | Not sure what the actual angle is but it's more of a "tool" angle, considering the thickness of the knife and the intended use, it's not a bad angle. Coupled with the 1095 and Tops' differential heat treatment process, it holds up well and keeps a great edge. |
Question: | How thick does the blade measure |
Answer: | The blade is 1/4" thick at the base of the blade next to the handle, then it tapers to shape the blade. It's full tang, which is 1/4" thick through the handle. Very, very solid. |
Question: | What is the blade hardness rating |
Answer: | The hardness rating is 56-58 RC |
Question: | So they do come with the Tops warranty and Certificate |
Answer: | yes they do. I have two of these knives. |
- ESEE Tactical Suvival Knives.
- Kydex Sheath w/ Cordura Backing.
- Steel: 1095 Carbon, 55-57 Rc. Finish: Black Powder Coat.
- Hammer Pommel w/ Lanyard Hole. Flat Grind.

Care/Maintenance: ESEE carbon steel knives are made from 1095 steel. 1095 is a top choice for professional cutlery designed for hard use, it will rust and stain if not properly cared for – especially on the cutting edge and around the laser engraving. It is the user's responsibility to keep the blades properly lubricated and cleaned. We suggest using a dry film rust inhibitor such as TUF-GLIDE or TUF-CLOTH.

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this compare to the Ontario RTAK II |
Answer: | The only RTAK worth owning, is the original. The 1st gen RTAKs are more tough; less brittle. You certainly won't shatter it (unlike the RTAK II)! Given how difficult it would be to find a gen-one RTAK though, I'd just go with the BK9.. |
Question: | Bk7 or bk |
Answer: | I had the same "wonderful" problem, so I purchased both of them. At the end I decided to keep the BK9 and send the BK7 back. This is my analysis and strictly my opinion: The BK9 can do 80% of all the things the BK7 can do. The BK9 has a much much stronger blade point and thus is far superior for batoning. The BK9 is the knife that is in a special category and looks, feels and can do probably everything that the MAJORITY of your other knifes can NOT do. The BK9 is THE knife that I would keep, if I were given only ONE CHOICE of knifes to own. In my particular case, the BK7 would have been just "another one of those MANY knives" that are stored in my closet and just sit around, waiting to be used....but are not! The BK9 has to work hard, gets no rest and gets not pampered. It truly is one of those incredibly good knives. |
Question: | Is the blade full tang |
Answer: | Yes it is full tang .. 1095 HC it has a really rough Finnish on it that is very strong.. 1095 HC can rust though so if u rem oil it it'll b fine this is honestly my favorite knife I own and definitely the toughest knife out there it sharpens up very well and stays sharp the handle is ok but if you want u can upgrade that or put the tennis racket grips over the existing handle to give it more grip the sheath at first I thought it wasn't to great but I now really like it .. It is definitely the best knife for 80 $ out there for the cash you are not going to brake this knife |
Question: | Does anybody know what country the BK9 is made in |
Answer: | I called the Becker cite and was advised the BK9 "country of origin" is USA. |

Ka-Bar Becker BK9 Combat Bowie Fixed Blade Knife
Ethan Becker is a man after our own heart. An avid outdoors-man who enjoys martial arts and hunting, Becker founded Becker Knife and Tool Corporation in the early 1980's to design the industrial-strength tactical and survival knives he'd always wanted for himself. What we love about Becker, other than his innovative designs, is that he spends so much time in the outdoors testing new equipment and designs. KA-BAR is proud to be the manufacturer of Becker's five best-selling models - all introduced recently and brought up to date and approved by Becker himself.

The Halfachance is a beefy fixed blade survival parang designed by award-winning custom knifemaker Ken Onion of Kaneohe, HI to be tough, strong and work like an ox. The result is more efficient slicing action when you need to cut your own path. Literally.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know where this knife is made specifically when it is imported |
Answer: | Supposedly you can use a stick or dowel through the hole to act as a second grip. Using both hands you can use the blade as a draw knife. |
Question: | What's the difference between this and the cheaper k920kkpc (seems to be a prime member exclusive |
Answer: | Absolutely, it’s covered by ESEE’s lifetime warranty. |
Question: | is it similar steel to cold steel blades |
Answer: | No, the grind lines wound not be ideal for slicing brisket. It is more suited for brush, small tree limbs. The Victorinox 12 Inch Fibrox Pro Slicing Knife with Granton Blade would be a much better choice |
Question: | Is the blade traditional (tip fine work, middle chopping, extra fine work near handle |
Answer: | Mine was black. It was an inexpensive item and the blade holds an edge just about like you would expect for an item of this price. |
