User questions & answers
Question: | Could you poke a hole into an inflatable beach ball with this |
Answer: | Without a doubt. It's a very sharp knife that holds its edge. |
Question: | The black model's picture doesn't have the "USA" on the blade. Is it just the picture? Or will it have it |
Answer: | It does have it on mine. It's engraved below BUCK on the blade. |
Question: | Description avoids blade composition. Is this 420HC stainless? Thanks in advance |
Answer: | Yes it is. 285 is the model number. For some reason it doesn't mention it in the description of the black knife, but if you look at the same knife in camo it does mention it. It is their standard steel and as far as I can tell they use it even on their low end models. |
Question: | Does this knife have a pocket clip |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is the bucklite max 2 different than that the bucklite max? Just the handle |
Answer: | The 685 is the larger version and the 684 is the smaller version. Thanks, C&C |
Question: | Better sheath than the crappy one that comes with it? Something different than buck for sheath |
Answer: | I keep the knife in the sheath, in my pack. It’s been protecting the edge, and the gear around it for 3 seasons. I love the knife. I have both the large and the small versions. Each in a separate pack. For the price point, the sheath is more than adequate. Heavier leather sheaths are pretty simple to cut and put together. |
Question: | How long is handle |
Answer: | The blade is 4", so take the overall length which I think is 8.75 and subtract the blade length. A little longer than the blade. It is a nice size with a nice slip resistant grip. I like it better than the Vanguard, which I also bought. Nice and light, the vanguard is heavy. Both have a similar blade. |
Question: | leather sheath? Does anyone know what leather sheath would fit this |
Answer: | The 685 BuckLite Max II comes with a polyester sheath. If you have questions specific to sheaths, feel free to speak with a representative at 1-800-326-2825 x 4 and someone can help you find a match |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why can't I find this in Tan |
Answer: | Manufacturer is back ordered and has been for quite awhile. |
Question: | How thick is the dam blade |
Answer: | The blade thickness at the spine is 0.200" |
Question: | Can the sheath be configured for horizontal carry |
Answer: | Yes, the sheath can be configured for horizontal carry. |
Question: | How does it handle thrusted into flesh repeatedly in a defensive manner |
Answer: | Well since I’ve not had to use it against a person ever, I can’t answer with complete accuracy. However it does fix excellently in the hand and has a good weight ratio between blade and handle. My only recommendation is that you understand that you may want to go out and get professional training on how to handle a knife in a fight. As typically you will want to avoid just performing a stabbing motion and doing so can leave you open to be disarmed and having the knife used against you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this sandvik steel |
Answer: | 420 hc |
Question: | Is the only difference between this knife and the 0345bks vantage folding knife is the rosewood handle |
Answer: | I'm not sure but I can tell you this. The rosewood handle does not wear well. The coating flakes off. |
Question: | Pocket clip |
Answer: | Yes it has a pocket clip. It's on the opposite side to the Buck logo. Real nice "deep pocket" clip sets the knife deeper in your pocket so the top isn't sticking above the edge of the pocket. Solid as well, I don't foresee it bending at all. |
Question: | This is listed as 420hc but i was under the impression it was sandvik steel. which is it? also is this the large or small avid? thank you |
Answer: | It’s 420HC, the original Vantage Avid had Sandvik steel. Buck changed it circa 2014. Presumably because the 420HC is US made, and had similar performance characteristics to the Sandvik steel. I’ve had mine for mire than two years the 420HC is just fine. |
