10 best bowie knife with sheaths
A Bowie knife is a distinctive style of knife that has a historical significance and is often associated with hunting and outdoor activities. Here's what you should know about Bowie knives with sheaths:
Origin and History: The Bowie knife is named after James "Jim" Bowie, a 19th-century American pioneer and folk hero. It gained fame through his use during the Sandbar Fight in 1827 and later became popular in the American South and West.
Design: Bowie knives typically have a large, fixed blade characterized by a clipped point, a crossguard, and a deep belly for slicing. The design combines elements of both a hunting knife and a fighting knife.
Blade Material: Bowie knives are often crafted from high-quality steel to ensure durability and sharpness. Common blade materials include stainless steel and carbon steel.
Sheath: Bowie knives are commonly sold with a sheath. The sheath serves to protect the blade when not in use and allows for safe and convenient carrying. Sheaths can be made from various materials such as leather, nylon, or Kydex.
Size and Variations: Bowie knives come in various sizes, but they are typically larger knives with blade lengths ranging from 6 inches to over 12 inches. Some variations include single-edged blades, double-edged blades, and different handle materials.
Intended Use: Bowie knives were originally designed as utility and combat knives. However, they have become popular among hunters and outdoors enthusiasts for tasks such as skinning game, chopping wood, and general camp chores.
Collectibility: Bowie knives are also collected as historical and collector's items. Some enthusiasts seek out vintage or custom-made Bowie knives for their craftsmanship and historical significance.
Legal Considerations: The legality of carrying a Bowie knife can vary by jurisdiction, so it's essential to be aware of local knife laws and regulations before purchasing or carrying one.
When purchasing a Bowie knife with a sheath, consider factors such as the quality of the blade, the material and craftsmanship of the handle, and the design and durability of the sheath to ensure it meets your needs for hunting, outdoor activities, or collecting purposes.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this knife have one of those cancer warning labels on it |
Answer: | Why would it? It's made of steel not lead. |
Question: | Are you all going yo send what I ordered for the 40$ or pretend you had shipping problems and raise the price |
Answer: | Mine shipped at $36 if I remember correctly. But for sure it was under $40 |
Question: | Is the sheath in the post the actual sheath sent |
Answer: | That is the sheath I received. I ordered my knife a month ago.. .. |
Question: | Is this the 1075 version or the 1095 version |
Answer: | The newer 1075 Carbon Steel versions are less likely to chip than the 1095 Carbon Steel. These are hardened to a reasonable level so that they hold an excellent edge while remaining tough and resilient under adverse conditions. (I learned this from one of their engineers). This knife should perform just as well as the earlier 1095 Carbon Steel versions. Buy the Ontario Marine Raider Bowie Knife with confidence. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How wide are the straps that run behind the sheath |
Answer: | I don't know about any complaints about breakage. I use this to cut brush around my property and I haven't had any problems. |
Question: | Does the design of the straps of the scabbard inhibit a fast draw/retreival in a life and death situation |
Answer: | Not really.... it is very large for a large hand, maybe if you have small hands, you could probably grip it with 2....maybe. It is just a bad@$$ machete! |
Question: | What is the best method to sharpen this style blade |
Answer: | It weights 1.6 lbs with case on machete. I love mine! |
Question: | Where is this product manufacured |
Answer: | The actual Sharpened edge is 12" there is an addition 1.5" of un sharpened steel from the end of the edge to the chiole for a total of 13.5 inch blade reach. Sorry this is probably to late to help you but I hope it helps someone else in the future |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use this on a karambit |
Answer: | if the karambit has a narrow enough edge then this could be an ideal way to sharpen a curved blade. But if It looks like if the karambit has a thick blade, then perhaps the sharpener will not let the knife edge down into contact with the sharpening edges. The karambit on Wiki looks too thick to fit into this sharpener. |
Question: | Is this good for regular pockey knife? Is the stone better |
Answer: | This works great for knives. We're very happy with it. If you're after a professionally sharp edge, nothing can beat a stone. If you just want an excellent, sharp edge, this is fast and almost as good, IMHO. |
Question: | Will this sharpen scissors |
Answer: | When looking at only one of the blades of your scissors, only one side of that blade has an angled edge on it. This is made for blades with an angle on each side of the blade, like a normal knife. i would assume it would ruin the angle of the blade on the scissors. |
Question: | what is the angle of the sharpener Thanks |
Answer: | They are fixed at a 46 degree sharpening angle (23 degrees per side).See the blog @ http://www.edgeexperts.com/2010/12/21/2-step-knife-sharpener-sharpening-big-game-hunting-knives/ |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do i order this knife with the lanyard hole on the blade? I can't find a way to contact the seller |
Answer: | You cannot any longer get this with the lanyard hole!!! Its an old picture! I went to the USA dealer who is in Columbia Missouri! |
Question: | Does the current version have a lanyard hole |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How thick is the steel |
Answer: | There are multiple reviews on Youtube when search for SCHF45. One says the blade thickness is just under 1/4 inch. I did not measure mine as it has been returned when the blade failed when cutting some one inch spruce branches. a chunk of the the cutting edge broke off. I trust this is an exceptional case and a manufacturing defect. |
Question: | Does it come with a warranty |
Answer: | Schrade comes with a warranty, warranty terms are customer pays to ship defective product back (This cost should be charged back to factory Schrade contracted with vs customer paying) And additionally they tack on a handling fee of around $8.00 ( Which is sometimes waived ) You ship item back, and you get it back in around 7-10 business days. Note, you do NOT get a tracking number to track the item.)...and they will NOT issue a pre-paid shipping label.. So you the customer ate paying for their "screw-ups", which like said previously the supplier Schrade contracted with should bear all RMA costs. Main problem I have is Schrade depends entirely upon the supplier / for Quality Control oversight. I had one of the SCHF45 LEROY'S which upon LIGHT use the blade chipped.. Swapped it for a SCHF1 Survival knife. Went thru 2 of those thru Schrade.. 3 more thru a seller that let me look thru several to find one that was ACCEPTABLE. Problems were: Sloppy machine work SCHF1 has a hollow handle, cap screws on that "waterproofs" that section. Machine work was very sloppy in area O-ring seals against. Coating had "dirt" (metal chips) embedded in coating in sealing area. Handle on one in addition to above, was machined off-center with KNURLING missing on 30% of handle. Sheath would collapse each time blade was pulled from sheath. Obvious wear on coating appearing after 20 minutes on couch playing with knife. The closure strap NOT armoured / postion ed so it doesn't get cut. (Temp fix if you have some velcro at ripping is to put a sacrificial layer over it, otherwise it gets cut in short order. That's off the top of my head. Last thing, related to customer having to PAY return shipping on DEFECTIVE items. Schrade / BTI TOOLS, who is now owned by Smith & Wesson touts how they use the BEST MATERIALS and BRAG about their QUALITY CONTROL... If they are having only a few rejects per 1,000... How come they aren't issuing pre'paid shipping labels for DEFECTIVE PRODUCT ? BudK / CH Kadels whose items are priced significantly lower than Schrade's item upon calling them issue a PRE-PAID SHIPPING LABEL...with a 2 minute phone call. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it come with a sheath? cause I see a sheath bundle option for some reason |
Answer: | Yes. They need to pull that sheath bundle option down. It comes with a very nice Mexican-made sheath. Mexican sheaths are known for the highest hide quality, thickness, craftsmanship. You'll see. |
Question: | Is this a full tang knife? Meaning, does the blade goes all the way through the handle? Thanks |
Answer: | No, this is not a true full tang knife. It has a rat tail tang, meaning it extends the full length of the handle but not even close to the full width, significantly reducing the structural durability. Be warned, this is not a bushcraft knife. This is a combat knife. It was meant for combat, not chopping down trees and processing wood. If you put it through that, don't be surprised when (not if) it breaks. Excellent design for combat use though. I'd take it to Iraq, but not the woods. |
Question: | Are all Ka-Bar's stamped with USMC? Having never served I would not feel right purchasing one with a logo. It would be disrespectful in my eyes |
Answer: | I served in the USN during Gulf War / Operation Desert Shield /Storm . I have one of these with the USMC stamp . I’m getting ready to purchase another . Such a great knife !!! Proud to of served in the USN and proud to own this Kabar 1217 with the USMC honor stamp . It’s all good brother !! ( and to whoever else might have the same thought ). |
Question: | is it made in the U.S |
Answer: | I have purchased one through another outlet. The knife is made in the U.S. The leather sheath is made in Mexico. |

Question: | Does the loose-fitting sheath cause dulling of the edge since it rattles |
Answer: | No, but you can remove the little screen you see pictured on top. |
Question: | How thick |
Answer: | It is 31 inches tall |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | Just a barrel and a nozzle. |
Question: | Is it worth the money? A YouTuber that reviews blades reviewed this machete and by the end it had a big crack |
Answer: | You don't want a rain barrel made of wood. The wood is good as long as it ALWAYS has water in it (full - like a whiskey barrel), but when it is full then empty the wood shrinks back up and leaks. Plastic that looks like wood is better for water. If you want real wood for something other than liquid, then wood would be great. |

Durable Handle
A rubber overmold is a textured rubber layer on the handle scale that provides extra grip, usually molded over a solid polymer handle. With an attractive appearance and exceptional performance, a rubber overmold allows the knife to become more function and durability when in use. Rubber overmolds are textured and detailed to provide a more secure, more safe, nonslip grip.
