They last about 1 1/2 hours, give or take a little bit. Then they start to cool. You have to boil them when they are fully crystallized and have cooled. Use care to not allow them to contact the sides of a boiling pot for too long. I do want to address an answer someone else gave. They said that the warmers store heat. Not really true. They are a bag of water with dissolved salts. When the metal disc in the pouch is snapped, it initiates a chemical cascade creating a crystal made from those salts. In the process, heat is released. As long as they are liquid, they are cool. During crystallization, they release heat. Once the crystals are fully formed, they cool. Boiling them reversed the process and restores the liquids. I have on in my drawer that is over 20 years old and still works. |
