Answer:	I bought this for sciatica and since it did not come with directions I looked up u tube videos by physical therapists using a foam roller. This particular one is very firm and dense and at first is uncomfortable to use but helped some. I have since seen medium and softer foam rollers on u tube that are said to work just as well. I would ask your doctor about using this one on your back as it is really firm and dense. As I said above, I specifically bought it to work on my sciatica. This one turned out to have the same inner diameter as the ones with the larger inner diameter, which would be great if that was what I needed. These fit right onto my other equipment--fit the same as the larger inner diameter rollers. Other than the incorrect inner diameter, the rollers are great. Very nice quality.
