It might not matter in the end though -- this thing is pretty rickety at it's highest setting, and difficult to carry because gravity holds it together. You have to grab it by the leg and the seat or it comes crashing apart. I wouldn't buy it again, and you can have mine if you're in the vicinity of Maine.

Answer:	This wireless adapter is used when any of your desktop and/or laptop computers in your work or home do not have a built-in wireless adapter already installed(most all new computers have them) and they are not able to be plugged directly into your router via a Ethernet cable. In my case for example: I have 2 desktop computers - 1 for my office & 1 for the kids school work also in the same room. I also have 3 laptops that my wife, daughter & I use throughout the house. I had a net gear wireless router in my office and since both desktops don't have a wireless Bluetooth adapter in them, I had both plugged directly into the router via Ethernet cables. This allowed both desktops to have internet & printer capability(printer has wireless adapter) as well as our laptops which communicated to the same router wirelessly since all 3 have wireless adapters built in. I then switched internet services and went to AT&T uverse (big mistake) service. They brought out new router but signal was so weak that I had them hook it up in our family room so we could get service in back of our house. Now I had 2 desktops that I would've needed approx 70-80ft of cable run up into attic, down wall & into router which was totally out of the question. That is where this wireless net gear adapter fits in. Now instead of running cables, I plug this into one of the USB ports on the desktop and walla! It now can wirelessly connect to my remote router again as if it was wired in as before! This was quite the long way around in explaining why & how you would use this but hopefully it helps you understand the reason for it being on the market for folks to purchase.
