They are a bit short but they are long enough to have my socks cover them. I would say you should be fine in the "US XL".

Answer:	I don't recall these pilling. I only wore for a week and wore under other leggings. However, I did find that I had a hard time keeping them and my leggings up. They tended to slide down, which may be because of by build. I also bought Men's underarmor type with a set waist band. I liked them better both for warmth and for them not sliding off hips.
