Answer:	I would get a traditional vest if you're wanting to just tread water. Those are designed to hold your head above water. Ski vests still require you to orient yourself.

Answer:	I believe its a type iii, but Im not at the house now. But I will tell u it runs small. My husband is 220 lb andthe oversized one just fits him. I wear the large. It is very comfortable. It has clasps but no zipper. For the money its great. I use it to kayak.
