Answer:	My son is also 9 and wore between a youth small and a youth medium (he is small for his age). I opted for the youth small because he is smaller but also because he was wearing it under a football jersey. His jersey was really fitted (snug). I think you want it a little more fitted so the pads don’t move around too much.
