| Answer: | These earplugs reduce noise without completely blocking it out so if you still need to hear people talking to you then they will work well. I suffer from severe chronic migraines so I’m very sensitive to noise. For example police sirens or fire engines going by while I’m driving can trigger a migraine but I can’t wear the earplugs I use to sleep while driving because they block out too much sound. These muffle the sound so I can still hear well enough to drive and not be triggered into a migraine episode by an emergency vehicle. If you don’t need to communicate with other people or hear noises around you then you should go with the foam ear plugs since you get twice the noise reduction. The beauty of these is you can still carry on fairly normally whilst reducing the effect of extremely loud noises. Earplugs are measured by the decibels they block and I believe these block around 16 decibels while the most effective foam earplugs block around 33 decibels. This is the number you should look for. The more decibels blocked the more effective the earplugs but you won’t be able to hear people talking to you either. This is why they make this sort of earplugs for use in social situations. | Answer: | Though the coil may be water proof, if used at the shore, the slightest wave will splash the coil connection to the housing, which is NOT waterproof and it may short out the unit causing it to constantly whine. Not for use at water line in my opinion only use on dry land or away from waves. |

| Answer: | That is a loaded question. It would depend on many factors. First how big the buried object is. For example a coin sized object ( Say a quarter ) may get 5" where as a garbage can lid might come in at 22". The next factor is how much discrimination you use. On all metal you will get more depth but pick up more trash items. Under ideal circumstances you would never even pick up that trash can lid if you had iron nulled out. Other factors are too many to name but soil condition, moisture of grass and sensitivity settings are all going to count towards depth. If you are looking to find old deep buried coins then this is not the right unit for you. I have two detectors. I use this Bounty hunter for the beach and play grounds where is handles great. For parks and old sites I have a more expensive detector that no Bounty hunter made could match the depth on. With my good detector I have found old dimes at 13". I love the bounty hunter and it paid for itself in a few weeks with a gold ring it found but it has its limitations. The old saying "You get what you pay for". You cannot expect a $100 detector to do what a $2000 detector can do. Lastly, experience and time in the field ( knowing what the heck you are doing ) is key.Hope this helped |

| Answer: | No, it cannot! After reading this post I purchased the Dr. Otek over other options, thinking I finally found a solution to finding bird shot in carcasses. As soon as it arrived, I put it to the test, using both lead (#7) and steel (#3) shot placed about 1/2" deep in some left-over chicken. I immediately got a reading and thought I found the answer to my prayers - but I was wrong. The detector is very sensitive and will pick up electrical wires beneath the surface or nails in the tops of table legs, but it did not pick up my bird shot. When placed in the open, the detector registered the #3 steel shot when it was within 1 cm. The only time it registered the lead shot was when it was touching it. I know it was a lot to ask but I was optimistic after reading this post. Now you know and I'll be returning the unit. |

| Answer: | I use both. To me the Rico is a little more sensitive. The rico has row of indicator lights as opposed the a single multicolor on the ortek. I like the rico lights better. The only advantage of the otek, is that is waterproof to 10M. The Rico is waterproof to maybe 4 inches. Rico is not good on beaches. When I got mine ,took it to the beach and it got splashed. Killed it. A good thing I can say about the Rico. When I got home after splashing, I removed the battery and left it open overnight. Lo and behold, next day I installed the battery and it worked. It's a pretty tough pinpointer. I have to retune it more often than the Otek. If I'm hunting dry ground the Rico is my choice. Beach hunting Otek is the one. All in all, the Rico is more sensitive. |

| Answer: | I'm size 42(ish) and it's quite snug but fits, would be more comfortable were I a little slimmer! However, I believe a snap in belt extension to increase its size can be rigged up inexpensively by purchasing some of the 2 inch plastic type snap buckles and 2 inch nylon webbing of the type found at REI or similar stores, and I love the harness so much I would go out of my way to make mine work! I also would consider contacting Minelab to ask them if they possibly can provide the proper parts to modify the waist belt length with. Good luck, it's worth the effort in my opinion! |

I roll mine to the diameter of. a large crayon, place it into the ear canal, then using the side of my thumb, I press it flat so that it fills the ear cavity but not the canal. I press my thumb in and hold in place for about five seconds, rolling it from side to side. This makes for a very secure fit. The plugs will remain securely in place. This method works for me. |
