10 best cyclometers
A cyclometer, also known as a cycling computer, is an electronic device used by cyclists to track and display various metrics related to their rides. These devices are popular among cyclists of all levels and can provide valuable information for training, navigation, and monitoring performance. Here's what you should know about cyclometers:
Basic Functions: Cyclometers offer a range of basic functions, including tracking speed, distance, and time elapsed during a ride. These metrics are essential for monitoring progress and performance.
Cadence Measurement: Many cyclometers can measure cadence, which is the number of pedal revolutions per minute (RPM). Cadence information helps cyclists maintain an optimal pedaling rhythm for efficiency and power output.
Heart Rate Monitoring: Some advanced cyclometers can connect to heart rate monitors, allowing cyclists to track their heart rate in real-time. Monitoring heart rate helps cyclists train within specific intensity zones for better fitness and performance.
GPS Integration: Many modern cyclometers come equipped with GPS capabilities. This enables accurate tracking of routes, navigation, and mapping. Cyclists can plan and follow routes, view elevation profiles, and record their rides for later analysis.
Altitude and Elevation: Cyclometers with altimeters can measure changes in altitude and provide information about the elevation gained and descended during a ride. This data is valuable for assessing the difficulty of a route and tracking climbing efforts.
Wireless Connectivity: Some cyclometers can connect wirelessly to other devices, such as smartphones or sensors. This allows for features like smartphone notifications, automatic ride uploads to apps or websites, and data sharing with other cyclists.
Data Storage: Cyclometers typically store ride data, including historical information about previous rides. Cyclists can review their performance over time and set goals for improvement.
Customization: Cyclometers often allow users to customize data screens to display the metrics that matter most to them. Cyclists can choose to display information like speed, distance, cadence, and heart rate in various combinations.
Weather and Temperature: Some cyclometers can display current weather conditions and temperature, which can be useful for planning rides and dressing appropriately.
Battery Life: Cyclometers are powered by batteries, and battery life varies depending on the device and usage. Some devices have longer battery life than others, and rechargeable options are also available.
Mounting and Compatibility: Cyclometers come with mounts that attach to the handlebars or stem of a bike. It's important to ensure that the cyclometer is compatible with your bike's setup and that it can be securely attached.
Price Range: Cyclometers vary in price, with basic models being more affordable and advanced models with additional features being more expensive.
In summary, cyclometers, or cycling computers, are electronic devices designed to enhance the cycling experience by providing valuable data and metrics related to rides. They offer functions such as speed, distance, cadence, heart rate monitoring, GPS tracking, and more, making them a valuable tool for cyclists looking to improve their performance and enjoy their rides to the fullest. The choice of a cyclometer depends on individual needs and preferences, as well as the type of cycling you engage in, whether it's casual recreational riding or competitive training.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with an older Airdyne stationary bike? The computer stopped working and it can’t be replaced |
Answer: | I hate to try and guess, kind of like when you call customer support for something and they ask questions like "is it plugged in?" The only thing I can suggest is to make sure the computer is completely in the cradle with a "click." Other than that, maybe it's a short in the wire going to the sensor. Hope any of that helps. |
Question: | Are the listed product dimension of 8”x9”x10” correct |
Answer: | The main computer has a clip that is installed on your handlebar with zip ties (the base) There is a wire that runs from this clip which you run down you front fork. There is a magnet that must be in line with the sensor on the wire. The magnet is mounted on a spoke. The product comes with zip ties. Question: | Is the display the same size as the Padrone model |
Answer: | Hi Laura, I have it set to MPH. I have not been in a rain storm yet so I don't know about water tightness. I am so pleased with this bike computer!! |
Question: | Why do folks respond with "I don't know the answer to that question |
Answer: | Yes. Just stick the magnet to the flywheel. No glue or anything necessary. On my Proform 290 I was able to ziptie the sensor to where the flywheel attaches to the frame of the bike. Wheel size is 18" on mine. Finding a spot for the sensor is the trickiest bit. You may have to "MacGyver" something. The speed and distance don't really mean anything as it is a spinner but since you probably have a good feel for your resistance setting it is nice to have a few numbers to compare from one workout to the next. Took about 5 minutes to install and about the same to program. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work on 20 inch wheels? (Recumbent wheels |
Answer: | This has a manual that allows for the coding of dozens of tire sizes. I’m sure it would work on a 20” rim. I would have to get home and look at the owners manual. I’m safely assuming you can. |
Question: | how can I keep the cateye padrone from resetting during a ride |
Answer: | 1. I was told this is a battery slightly loose problem and to add a piece of scotch tape to the back of the battery and re-install. I folded a 2" piece of tape in half to get rid of the sticky. Re-installed - It worked. NOTE: Don't forget to write your Odometer mileage down - it will reset 000 when you open the battery door 2. Also mounting the Pedrone on a stem that is angled up can cause resetting problems (was told this by the factory). |
Question: | There are several cateye padrone cyclo computers on thise site with different prices. Is there a difference in these computers |
Answer: | it seems to me there is a version without stopwatch feature ...and version with ... check !!! I bought the latter ...... the earlier may be an older model ... |
Question: | Does the Padrone have the interference issue with led lights like cygolites? I have a strata that drops out when I turn on my head light |
Answer: | I purchased a new bike recently and decided to buy a new Cateye Padron & head light (Kryptonite) at the same time. Mounted the extras to the handlebars and calibrated the Padron. No issues.....until....riding at night with my light on. It took me a few night rides to put 2 and 2 together, but I finally discovered the interference PROBLEM associated with the Padrone. Quite frustrating as I ride almost exclusively at night during the summer months. My FIX is putting a layer of foil tape around the light. Somehow that mitigates the interference problem and I can once again log Ride miles on the Padrone....but man, my light is ugly as sin now! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I mount this on my rear wheel |
Answer: | while it is physically posible to mount the wheel sensor and magnet to your rear wheel, I doubt that once you have accomplished this, that you would be able to position the computer where it would be easily visible to the rider and still be within 20 inches of the wheel sensor. |
Question: | will it work with a bike trainer |
Answer: | The problem with this is that you can mount the computer on your handle bars and the sensor to your rear wheel. It is too far away. I have one on my trainer but only use it for time. |
Question: | Does it count calories burned |
Answer: | To be honest in my case it doesn´t count. You need to place the sensor really close to get the data, and sometimes it just gives you random things. |
Question: | does the product have auto on and off or manual turn on/off |
Answer: | Auto off; no auto on. Because it is a wireless sensor, it does not 'know' when you start back up on the bike once the display unit has powered off, so you have to push the central 'mode' button for it to turn on. |
