Answer:	:) Yes and no. the brass case isn't water proof. It's just a cheap case that looks pretty when new. It'll get scratched pretty easily though. The actual compass inside is waterproof. It has to be as the needle is surrounded by a liquid (I assume it's mostly water). So the plastic case is "water tight", which means it has to be "water proof". For the price, these are great compasses, but they're very inexpensive for what they're trying to provide to you... don't expect a family heirloom.
